Chapter 8
’I swear I’ll make it up to you. I miss you so much already!’ Chad texted me.
‘Who knows if this time I don’t take the initiative?’ I teased him.
’ Katie, don’t play with me, you know that’s what I want most. Now that you said that, I’m going to finish this investigation here twice as fast’.
‘HAHA, be careful, stay safe, please!’
‘What do you think about tomorrow after your workouts with Jake, we run in the park together?’ He suggested.
‘Sounds like a good plan! See you tomorrow’.
’ I’ll count every second, baby,’ he replied.
Chad, Chad, Chad… I really missed him. Despite the short time together, I’ve already become attached to him. I put my cell phone in my purse and sat in one of the available chairs. Today is a meeting with the doctors at the hospital. They generally define what we will do for the month. Dr. Smith started talking about the importance of patient care. For me, he is one of the best mentors in the hospital; he is a highly rigorous professional while very good at what he does.
“By the way, we need some volunteers to take care of elderly people who live in isolated areas of the pack. Due to the age of these people, it is challenging for them to get around here, so we need to go to them. Who will volunteer?” He asked. Everyone waited for someone to say something, but he only received silence in response. I had a look at the people who would be helped, and two of them were my patients, so I decided to volunteer, and I raised my hand.
“Katherine Wright. Anyone else?” No one replied to him. “If no one volunteers, I will have to choose between you guys. We need three more people, and each one will stay in a different region. As Ms. Wright volunteered first, she chooses the region she will be in.” Three other people timidly volunteered after Dr. Smith threatened them, Mark, Oliver, and Mary.
“Okay then. The rest of you can get back to your itineraries for the day. You’re excused.” He turned to the volunteers, “You guys, choose the region you want, get the necessary materials, and go!” Dr. Smith said as he almost kicked us out.
And so we did. When everything was ready, we got in the car and headed towards the first region. Luckily, it was my stopping place, so I waved goodbye to the staff and left.
There was a man named Edmund waiting for me, and he informed me that he was going to take me to people’s homes. He seemed so happy to have someone to look after them that I felt bad it took me so long to volunteer. The first patient was Mr. Webber. Edmund took me to his house, and I knocked on the door. Mr. Webber’s wife came up and smiled when she saw me.
“Katie, you came! Glad you’re here. Come in, darling!” She gave me room to enter, “He’s there in the room. He can’t even get up.” I followed her towards his room.
Mr. Webber’s case is complicated. He is only a fourth werewolf, and because of that, he has some health problems that others usually don’t have. In his case, he has mobility problems, his spine is harmed, and he cannot move without help.
“What’s up, sad boy?” I said as soon as I saw him.
“Don’t try. I’m not going to get up. I don’t want to do anything. You can go back to the hospital,” he barked. I know how much physiotherapy hurts him. That’s why I always try to joke with him during the process.
“But I didn’t come for you, I came for Mrs. Webber. Her coffee is better than the hospital,” I teased him, walked towards him, and sat on the bed.
“I don’t want to do anything today, Katie. Just leave me alone, please.”
“You mean you’re not going to help me at all? I’m going to have to carry you alone, Mr. Webber? Look, I’m going to tell your friends that you were carried by me like a baby,” I smiled mischievously at him, held his hands, and helped him to sit on the bed.
I did all the physiotherapy with him while I had my coffee. Mrs. Webber’s coffee is really much better than the hospital’s. Then, when we were alone, I put my hand on his spine and tried to heal him. I concentrated on how difficult his life is and how happy he would be to be able to go back to doing his activities by himself, then I felt a warmth in my hand, and continued running my hand up and down his back when I saw that he relaxed his shoulders I stopped.
“You don’t complain about massages, do you?” I teased him. He was silent, and then I realized he was crying. I was silent.
“Thanks, Katie. I’m feeling better than ever! Thanks for coming.” He wiped away the tears, and I tried to hold back my tears. As I was healing him, I could feel his pain and the anguish of being in that situation.
When I left Mr. Webber’s house, Edmund was already waiting to take me to the next house, where, one by one, I was trying to help all those people.
Every time I try to heal someone, I feel exactly what the person is feeling, and it has a negative effect because when I finish it, I am drained. It felt like they had sucked out all my energy. It felt like I hadn’t slept in at least a week.
I waved goodbye to Edmund and stayed at the pick-up point I had set with the driver. Suddenly a man started walking towards me, he got closer and closer and only then did I realize that he was the old man who told me that I was a healer.

“Do you remember me, child?” he asked me.
“Of course!” I was sitting, and he sat next to me. “You told me I was a healer. I have so many questions for you!”
“I don’t have many answers, child, but I can tell you everything I know!” He smiled warmly, and I could see several wrinkles on his face.
“How did you know I was a healer? Why did you want me to talk to the Alpha? Have you caught his reputation?” I asked eagerly for answers. He placed his hand over mine so I could calm down.
“I have the gift of vision, it is a gift given by the Goddess Selena. I have had this gift for a long time, and in some of my visions, I saw a person very similar to you with your gift. The Goddess Selena came in one of my dreams and told me to do a mission for her, she said that I would get very hurt from there, that I could even die, but she also said that I would save many lives. As a reward, she said that she would send me a special healer who would heal me and would not let me die. That day when I woke up, I was in the hospital, and I knew you were the person she said because I had already seen you in my dreams. In some of them, you healed many people, and in others, you were in danger. That’s why I told you to be careful who you tell your secret to.” He finally explained to me, “My name is Gideon. By the way, I was one of the consultants of the former Alpha. I’ve known the current Alpha since he was born, I know his heart, and I know that most of the things people say about him are because they don’t know him.” He gave me a judgmental look, and I was embarrassed for talking about the Alpha that way.
“Child, you need to seek help to develop your gift. Did you manage to heal me randomly, or do you already know how to do it?”
“My name is Katie, and yes, I can concentrate and heal people. I’ve been doing that all day without their notice,” I said.
“I can see how tired you look, Katie. Any power takes a lot out of our physical health. I know it’s a lot to ask of you, but can you help just one more person today? That’s my younger brother-in-law,” he said with a lot of sadness in his eyes. I took his hand.
“Of course, yes. What happened to him?”
“Oh my dear, his case is spectacular. I’ll tell you from the beginning. When my brother-in-law, Jasper, was 18, he had his first shift a little later than usual, so that’s why he left that night to celebrate with his friends. In the bar he went to, there was a beautiful girl who was my younger sister. She found out he was her mate, and they had so much in common. Jasper was happier than ever, as he was a little drunk, he decided to make a date the next day with my sister so that he could mark her and she could meet his family. The next day, my sister got all dressed up. She was like a princess waiting for him to show up… but he didn’t show up. She was so sad and depressed; she thought Jasper had rejected her and didn’t want anything to do with her. The next day, she saw a report on local TV saying that a man had been in a car accident and was near death. My sister was distraught as the man who was in the accident car was none other than Jasper.” He spoke, and I widened my eyes without interrupting him, waiting for him to continue patiently.
“She ran to the hospital and there she met all of Jasper’s family, his sister, mom, dad, everyone. She got attached to them very quickly. It felt like they had been family for years. The local TV didn’t report that in the accident, wolfsbane got in his eyes. Because he got his wolf that day, he wasn’t strong enough to be one hundred percent better. Then, unfortunately, Jasper went blind. Since that day, he hasn’t seen anything else. Usually, Jasper and my sister tell this story as a love story because, in their whole life together, Jasper only saw my sister once in his life.” By the time he finished telling me, my eyes were already full of tears.
“My sister did what she could to help him. She learned Braille, adapted the house, and changed her studies to the same college as him so they could finish together. She did everything she could, you know?” I nodded, “But I know how much they both would like his eyesight to be back, so I ask you, Katie, please heal Jasper!” he finished with a plea, and he squeezed my hand, waiting for my response.
“I’ll do what I can to heal him, Mr. Gideon!” I wiped my tears and smiled at him, and he smiled back.
After walking for some time, we finally arrived at Jasper’s house. On the way, Mr. Gideon told me about several adventures he already had during his service for the former Alpha. He knocked on the door, and a teenager appeared, looked at me, and then at Mr. Gideon.
“Uncle, what are you doing here? I thought you were only coming for the weekend.” He hugged Mr. Gideon.
“I’m here on a special mission. Is your father home?” He asked as we entered the house. I remained silent.
“Yes, he and my mother are in the basement living room. Do you want me to call them?”
“No, I’ll go to them, don’t worry,” he said, and we headed towards the basement.
Their house has a farmhouse style, very simple but very cozy. Mr. Gideon told me they have 3 children, a 14-year-old, a 7-year-old, and a 4-year-old. I can’t imagine how difficult it must have been to care for his family. I hope I can heal Jasper. Mr. Gideon entered the living room first, greeted everyone, and turned to me.
“Jasper, I have someone special here to meet you,” he said, and I walked over to him. “This is Katie. She’s going to try something, all right?” he asked Jasper as he placed my hand over Jasper’s so he knew I was there.
“Hi Katie, it’s okay. The worst thing you can do to me is make me blind,” he joked, and his wife and Mr. Gideon laughed. I noticed how much she had a look of sadness in her eyes.
“I’ll try my best,” I said and then put my hand over his head, then over his eyes.
I started to feel how his blindness directly impacts his day and how much he faces significant challenges to do basic things. I felt how much it makes it difficult for him to move, communicate, and everything… I could feel everything he felt until today, even the accident that left him blind. I started channeling it into good things, how his life will change for the better if he can see how happy he will be when he sees his wife for the second time.
Suddenly, my hands got extremely warm, and I could feel the heat healing him. I could feel him getting better.
I took my hands off of his face. He looked at me, scared, not believing what was happening.
I held my breath because I couldn’t believe what I was experiencing.
He saw me!

Author’s note:
Hello, my lovelies!
The story of Jasper and Gideon’s sister was inspired by real events of an accident that occurred in 1993.
In real life, the couple met the day before he was blinded in a road car accident, and despite the difficulties, she remained by his side.
The couple met at the theater, where they sat next to each other and talked. They then found out that they studied at the same college and decided to arrange a meeting the next day.
When the time for the meeting arrived, she thought he had left her.
However, she turned on the TV and saw a photo of him, “A student was in a car accident and now is in serious condition, the car hit a tree, and the broken glass blinded the driver.”
He only saw her once! They got married and had children after that.
I hope you enjoyed this tribute I made to them.
Tell me what you thought of the chapter!
xoxo,
Sadie
