Chapter 9

Initially, he took a while to understand what was going on. He seemed to be in a range of intense emotions when he saw me. He looked overwhelmed, disoriented, and even frightened when he first regained his sight.

Suddenly, he turned to his wife, ran wobbling to her, and hugged her tightly. They both started to cry emotionally and sat down on the sofa. Even Mr. Gideon was crying, I finally reacted, and I wiped away the tears I didn’t even realize I had cried. He started saying several things to his mate, he hugged her, kissed her. After a while, he turned to me and, calmer, started talking.

“I’m feeling so much joy and gratitude at being able to see the world again. It’s a miracle! I don’t know how to thank you. Thank you so much, Katie! I had already given up hope. I didn’t believe that I could see again. I had already accepted my fate! You changed that, I owe you everything! From now on, I’m here for anything you need!” I couldn’t hold back the emotion, and I wiped more tears with my hands.

“I feel like I’ve been born again. Look at all those colors!” He looked around, “Colors, shapes, and textures in a way I did not remember.”

“I have wrinkles you’ve never seen before,” his wife said, blushing as she cupped her face in her hands.

“You only got prettier as time went by, darling! You are so beautiful! How could I go so long without seeing such perfection?” He put his hand on her face and kissed her all over her face.

We all smiled at him. His recovery was so exciting. I still can’t believe it, his life story deserved a happy path, and I’m so glad to have been part of it.

We talked a little longer, and then he ran around the house to see his children. During our conversations, Mr. Gideon made them promise not to tell anyone where this “miracle” came from and asked his eldest son not to tell anyone either. I was relieved because I didn’t know what chaos it would become if it became public.

I got a message from the driver telling he was going to be a little late, so I accepted their invitation to have dinner with them. They were so euphoric, especially Jasper. He couldn’t stop looking at each side of the house, his favorite place was to stare at his mate. For me, their bond is so beautiful.

Will one day Chad and I have this bond, too?

I returned home with a wonderful feeling of accomplishment. I didn’t know what was waiting for me when I decided to come to this remote part of town, but it was my best decision ever.

Maybe in the future, I might suggest to Alpha to create a project with more frequent home visits; these people need help.

Their gratitude after each assistance was the best reward. I was more than happy to know that they were healed, and I could also really feel their happiness after each healing I did.

Goddess Selena, thank you for giving me such a wonderful gift, thank you for choosing me, thank you for everything! I don’t have a wolf, but at least I have a gift that makes a difference in people’s lives.

It’s a shame I can’t tell Chad. I’d love to talk to him about it, but for now, I’m going to keep this a secret from him.

As soon as I got home, I packed my things and ran to the Diamond Claw Library to look for more information about healers. I’m extremely tired and exhausted, but I need to do this today, and I need to be quick because there’s only an hour left before the library closes.

I walked over to the special gifts section and picked up a book with a green cover labeled “Werewolves and Their Super Powers”, a very suggestive title; surely there is some information in there, I assume.

I sat on one of the reserved chairs and opened the book. There was an index talking about Visions, Super Speed, and other things until I came across the word Healer on Page 394. I flipped to that page as if my life depended on it.

I scanned each piece of information and then calmly reread each paragraph. The book says what we already knew about the gift being hereditary. It noted that this gift is rarely manifested, and the few people that had it in history were great healers who helped save many lives, especially during wars.

One fact that caught my attention is that the gift can be trained and improved, each time the person uses it, they become more capable of healing other people, but it has its negative points. The Healer loses a lot of energy during this process and needs a lot of help from the mate to be able to recover.

How am I going to do that if I don’t have a mate? Oh, Goddess!

The information only goes from page 394 to page 400. There is not much information beyond what we already have. I looked for more books about this subject in the library, but I couldn’t replace any.

I hope Jake was luckier than I was to get the information.

Something caught my attention at the end of page 400, and I found it very strange. On this page, it was written that only werewolves have this power, a human cannot have it because this is a wolf gene, not a human gene.

Now I’m lost.

’I made a tasty dinner. It’s on top of the stove, I know you’re tired, eat before you go to sleep, if not, tomorrow I won’t take it easy on you, and you’ll look like a zombie when you go to meet Chad. xD I have to go back to training, and I’ll have to stay until dawn. See you tomorrow morning before practice, Kitkat!’

I opened Jake’s message. I barely got home and saw that he wasn’t there. I answered him back, thanking him for the food.

I had a tightness in my chest, I get worried every time Jake doesn’t come home early. Today is one of those days I would like to have him here to share the things I found, but I don’t want to share this with him via text message. Also, he’s there to work and not to have fun getting my messages all the time.

I felt more lost than ever. According to the book, I can’t be a healer and also a human, but that’s exactly my case. I need to gather more information.

I decided to put this matter aside since I don’t have much to do right now.

I went to the bathroom and took a very relaxing shower, put on comfortable pajamas, took the food that Jake made, and ate it. I wasn’t so hungry because I had already had dinner, but he made it with so much dedication that I thought it best to at least eat one small portion.

Since I can’t communicate via mindlink with Jake, I wrote him a ‘thank you’ note and attached it to his bedroom door. I always communicate like this with him and my family at home.

🐺 🐺 🐺

Training with Jake is devilishly tiring. Today, he decided to take it easy on me, but I didn’t see any difference. During the workout, I told him about my discoveries, and he was as surprised as I was. He said he couldn’t replace any relevant information but would keep looking.

After the workout with him ended, I went towards the park to meet Chad, he sent me a message saying he was going to be a little late, he asked me to start running and said he’d meet me there, and so I did.

The winter air nips at my exposed skin as I step onto the park path. I take a deep breath, and my breath condenses in the frigid air. Looking around, I notice the stark beauty of the park in winter. The trees, stripped of their leaves, reach towards the sky with gnarled branches, casting long shadows on the snow-covered ground.

I start to jog, my breath coming out in puffs of steam. I notice my surroundings as I run, taking in the details of the trees around me. The bark is rough and textured, and some branches are covered in snow, creating a natural winter wonderland. The crunch of snow under my feet is the only sound, and I revel in the park’s peacefulness.

As I continue running, I feel my muscles warm up and loosen. The running starts to invigorate me, and I feel alive and energized. I love to run. I can feel the cold air filling my lungs, and I like the way my breath fogs up in front of me.

I slow my pace to get some air as I am still tired from Jake’s workouts.

As I walk across a snow-covered landscape, I notice a figure lying on the ground in the distance, perhaps a few hundred feet away, and my curiosity is piqued.

Suddenly, I feel a pain in my heart, but at the same time, a joy that I’d never felt before. I caressed my chest, trying in vain to slow down the beats, for some reason, my heart was racing. I move towards the figure with a sense of urgency.

🐺 🐺 🐺

At first, I can’t make out any details, but as I approach, I can see that it’s a man lying face down with his arms splayed out to either side.

My heart raced even more with concern for his well-being, I quickened my pace and began to jog toward him.

As I get closer, I can see that the man is dressed in torn clothing and appears to be unconscious or sleeping. His face is obscured by blood, but I can see that he is breathing shallowly.

I start to feel a flutter of fear and uncertainty in my chest as I kneel beside him and gently touch his shoulder, calling out to him to see if he will awaken. When he doesn’t respond, I begin to check for signs of his injury. I can see that his arms and legs are covered in cuts, some of these cuts have dried blood, and the other cuts are deeper as I can see the blood is still fresh, it means the wound has not healed.

As I tend to the man, I realize that I don’t recognize him. My mind is racing with questions and concerns, I wonder how he came to be lying helpless in the snow.

I carefully turn him over onto his back, cradling his head and neck in my lap. The man’s face is pale, and his eyes are closed. His face is covered in blood, and I almost can’t see the features of his face properly, but even in that state, he looks so perfect.

With a sense of concern and curiosity, I caressed his face, feeling the features of his face under my hand. I have never seen a man as handsome as he is.

I started running my hands up and down over his arms. This time, I didn’t even have to concentrate to heal him. As soon as I touched his wounds, I could already feel a warmth coming out of my hands, and immediately closing the wounds on his arms and legs, even though I’m not touching his legs.

This has never happened to me before. Every time I try to heal someone, I need to touch where the main wound is and concentrate a lot, and then the person gets better. Also, it takes a while for me to feel that warmth in my hand, but this time, it was completely different.

It was so easy to heal him, almost like it was instinct.

I can’t understand what I’m feeling. It’s as if I am driven by a deep sense of concern for this stranger I’ve never seen before. Certainly, I care about all my patients, but this stranger seems to be different. Every part of my body wants him to get well soon, and I can’t control the panic that is in me if he doesn’t get well.

Gently, I begin to speak to the man, hoping to rouse him from his unconsciousness. I stroke his hair and speak soothing words, trying to calm both him and myself. I hadn’t realized it, but my hands were shaking.

When I didn’t get an answer, I started to get desperate.

“I don’t know who you are, but it’s time to wake up. I can’t explain it, but my heart breaks to see you in this state… Please open your eyes!”

I begged. I couldn’t take my eyes off his face, waiting for an answer as I caressed his face. I’m also curious to know the sound of his voice, the color of his eyes, and who he is! I was almost crying.

Suddenly, his breathing started to become steady. He took a deep breath, inhaling the air around him. His eyelashes started to move. It took a while, but he finally opened his eyes… looking directly into mine.
