Cleo's POV After spending the night in the cave behind the waterfall I managed to convince Roman to go back. He protested at first knowing that not only his siblings, but his fathers would be waiting for him to return ready to rain hell on him for his behaviour. Honestly, I didn't think he would be the one to get it but me. It was my sister that had taken Athena not only from this world but from them. I just couldn't get my head around it. Daphne had never been like that and the more I thought about it the more I began to develop a headache. Sure, she got into fights back in the orphanage but even they only happened when she was getting me out of a situation that I had created. In my mind we had an argument nothing more. Had she put her stubbornness behind her when I tried talking with her this whole thing could have been avoided. Nausea rose within me knowing that now it was to late. Any chances of us having reconciled now gone along with my mate's mum.

Roman had told me about his past with Lucille and baffled didn't even come close to describing how she could possibly still be alive. Though deep down I had a nagging feeling that my so called father Hades had something to do with it. Whether it was him or not I was going to get to the bottom of it. Firstly though I needed to know why Daphne had become involved. If it was out of spite for me accepting Roman then fine, but she should have taken it out on me and nobody else.

Unlike yesterday morning the sun was nowhere to be seen leaving the sky dull and thick with fog. It was as almost as if the earth itself knew someone special had been taken before her time and was in mourning with everyone else. As the Moonlight Pack house came into view Roman's grip on my hand tightened. It was clear he was both scared and worried about returning though his face remained as calm and calculated as usual. Had we been elsewhere, no one would remotely suspect that he was grieving.

"Oh thank the goddess your safe!" Layla's voice came from the doorway where she sat on the front steps. Her bright eyes now dull, and her smile long gone. Getting to her feet she made her way towards us. "Cleo did he hurt you?" She gripped my arm with one hand while the other inspected me for wounds. My brows furrowed at her action; did she really think her brother would harm his pregnant mate. Though I had to admit he had scared me, but I knew he would never truly hurt me. Not physically anyway.

"No, no he didn't. Layla... I'm so sorry for your loss." Nodding in response she turned her attention back to her brother. In the blink of an eye she had raised her hand and slapped him. His face tilted to the side with a bright red handprint on his cheek. He closed his eyes on impact swallowing his pride. Layla wasn't just another woman but his sister, there was no way he would hit her back. Had it been Kai though it would be another story.

"Don't ever disappear like that again." Tears shone in the redness of her eyes as she pulled Roman into an embrace. For someone that was born to a different woman making Roman only her half-brother she sure loved him, and I was envious of it. Roman wrapped his arms around his sister returning the embrace as he whispered something into her ear. Something I couldn't hear.

A small smile sat on my lips as I walked around them and into the pack house. I needed to know what happened to make my sister betray me. To make her hate me with such a passion that she felt siding with the enemy was her only option. I just couldn't get the what ifs out of my head. Had she come to me and voiced her concerns I would have supported her with whatever troubles she held.

The pack house was eerily quiet and cold. Glancing at the clock on the wall I knew it was early but even still there had normally been the odd few omegas fluttering around. Making my way upstairs I found myself routed in place as I stood in the corridor leading to Daphne's room.

"She's not in there. We checked." I hadn't heard anyone come up behind me so when Eric spoke it frightened me.

"Did she leave anything in there?"

"A few bits and bobs. Cleo, I have to ask. Were you in on it?" I couldn't contain my shock at his words. How could he possibly suspect me knowing who my mate was? Did he and other pack members really think that low of me?

"Of course I didn't have anything to do with it." Shaking my head in disbelief I walked towards Daphne's door wanting to see for myself. Eric grabbed my arm and pulled me backwards before pushing me up against the wall. Sensing the threatening aura coming from Eric, Freya watched getting ready to help if needed.

"She's your sister. You were extremely close and yet you expect me to believe you weren't involved. Tell me the fucking truth Cleo now." His face inched closer to mine as he snarled my name.

"Who the fuck do you think you are? Get off me." My wolf growled coming forwards wanting to rip the head off his shoulders.

"I'm the Beta to this pack which makes it my job to ensure scheming little whores like you are stopped."

"I ain't no whore! Get the fuck off me." I tried to push him away, but his arm was under my chin pushing against my throat. "Goddess, would it hurt to brush your teeth once in a while?" Eric growled as he increased the pressure on my throat restricting my air flow making me gasp.

As he opened his mouth to retaliate a hand landed on his shoulder ripping him backwards. I watched as Roman threw him against the other wall before punching him in the gut.

"Keep your fucking hands off her. I ever see you near her again and I will kill you."

"Roman I just needed to know. I wasn't going to hurt her." Eric was no longer smug and confident as he hunched forwards trying to regain his composure.

"Know what?" Eric just looked at Roman before shaking his head and looking back to the ground. "Know what Eric? I don't have all day." Roman was growing more impatient by the second and suddenly feared for Eric's life. "I need to know where Daphne is."

"Why are you so interested in my sister? I know what she's done but why you?" Roman looked back at me a smug look forming on his face causing me to raise my eyebrow.

"Eric is Daphne's mate." My mouth fell open and, in that moment, I must have looked like a flipping goldfish. Hades POV

"It went just as you said it would. Lucille shocked Roman to the core. When he saw her face, he couldn't believe it. I swear his heart stopped beating for a minute. The rogues entered the territory and immediately began to take to no prisoners. I made sure that Lucille had the exact location of the safe room. There are more than one, but only one is specifically used by them. What I hadn't expected though was for Athena's wolf to make a comeback. Unfortunately, however it wasn't enough to save her."

"She shifted? Impossible!" Rumours of what the werewolf council had done to her years ago spread like wildfire. She had suffered more than any other wolf to fall at their hands. There was a lot of mutts saying that because she was a direct descendant to the Moon Goddess, she would just be given a slap on the wrist. So, to appease those voices they made an example of the former Luna.

"I swear it's the truth. I saw it with my own eyes and judging by the looks on everyone else's faces they hadn't expected it to happen either."

"What of my daughter?"

"That whore is safe... for now. We do have her sister on side now though. I used her to get the information to Lucille." My eyes widened in surprise. Cleo and her sister were surely to close for her to just suddenly switch sides. "Don't believe me? Look into my mind and see it for yourself. After all she was the one to eliminate Athena."

"Where is she and Lucille now?"

"Lucille is planning her next move. She is still unaware of my involvement, and I wish to keep it that way for now. Daphne is with her so she can report back to me. I can't have anyone figuring out my intentions now can I father?" "Fine. Now go but make sure to keep me updated. That child Cleo carries isn't to be harmed until I give the order. I need her to release me from here first." Nodding I watched as my youngest daughter walked away.

Things were going to plan and soon I would be free to walk the world above me. Lucille was only a pawn in the scheme of things, and she knew it. I needed someone to come between Roman and Cleo. Someone to seduce him, getting him to lower his guard. I wanted Cleo to replace them in the most scandalous position and with her mind weak and her heart broken I would summon her. She wants a family, and I would give her one. Until I got what I wanted that was and then I would discard of her alongside her mother.
