Fated To Roman: The Almighty Alpha -
Thirty-Four
Roman's POV
"How is this the first time I'm hearing of this? Your mother wasn't the kind of person to help someone out of the kindness of her heart. Fucking witch didn't have a heart." Hector took a step away from Axel as he revealed vital information. "It wasn't my place to become involved."
"Like hell it wasn't! How do you know it was your mother that helped?" I wanted to speak but instead sat there watching as my father's went at it.
"Because I saw them. I saw this red headed woman in my mother's office. She begged her for help. Told my mother that her sister was to be mated to the king of the underworld. That she had a vision of what would happen should they bond and have a child."
"Daphne's mum. They were twins." Axel just nodded his head as he looked over Hector's shoulder at me.
Standing from the ground I walked over to him and punched him. He knew something about my mate yet when we asked, he kept quiet. Angry didn't even come close to describing how I felt.
"Roman I'm sorry!" Grabbing his throat, I forced him to the door. Shoving him against the wall I ripped the door open shoving him out. He hadn't just placed my mate in a dangerous position, but also my unborn pup. Slamming the door shut I turned my attention to Hector.
As I grew up I gained control of both my emotions and my gifts, yet Hector's fear of me remained. He knew what I was capable of which in turn meant he wouldn't lie to me. Walking over to the bed I sat beside my mate who remained asleep. Her eyes all puffy as the odd tear still slipped.
"Things will be ok son. I know he was wrong to keep this to himself by he is right in one thing. Getting involved in his mother's dealing wouldn't have ended well for him. You've heard the stories about her but let me tell you they don't paint the entire picture. She was a vial woman. Her family always had first born daughters. Innocent babies that were used as a sacrifice for more power. If I had to guess, I'd say his mother was well aware that the woman's sisters' future pup would be a descendant of hers. I could be completely wrong, but it's the only reason I can think of as to why she would help her."
"You think she would have sacrificed Cleo haven given the chance."
"That's exactly what I think. A power like hers, like yours. The same but different in every way. It would have been like a gold mine."
"But Cleo was raised by her aunt?" I was trying so hard to connect the dots, yet nothing made sense.
"And I think that's why. I think Axel's mother agreed to help having her own agenda. I think she sought out Cleo's mother and watched as she found her mate. Waited until she became pregnant and then decided to intervene. I'm willing to bet she assisted her mother in banishing Hades with the hopes of taking Cleo as a pup. Though I don't think she counted on her mother replaceing the aid of another witch to bind her demon half hiding her from anyone that would try to replace her. You told us which pack Cleo was from. You also know about the protective barrier that surrounds it. There was a reason they lived there, a reason why the old bitch couldn't replace Cleo. The barrier protected her." Listening to what Hector had to say was like all the pieces of the puzzle finally clicked into place.
Of course, my father's mother was willing to help conceal Hades to the underworld. She knew that had he gotten a grip on his child that he would have been unstoppable. And a woman as power hungry as her couldn't stand for that. I sat there filling in all the gaps, my mind a total mess.
Cleo's POV
"Why does it have to be her blood? She's a baby!" My mother cried as she cradles the baby to her chest.
"Cecilia, you need to do this. She is willing to help.”

"And I'm grateful I really am Abbie, but this is too much. She isn't even a year old and already she has the weight of the world on her shoulders. Hades is my mate; can't you use that instead?" I watched as my mother argued with the woman that raised me before turning to look at another. The power I could feel radiating from her told me she was someone important, someone not to be messed with.
"No." The woman looked unamused with the situation as she walked around the room placing the baby into a bassinette.
"But the witch I spoke to said we could!"
"Look Cecilia, witches will tell you anything you wish to hear just so long as they are paid. I am not an ordinary witch. Your sister came to me for my help because I am the high priestess. I am the only one able to perform such a spell. A spell of such magnitude requires a lot of power. Power that no one other than I possess."
Once again, the vision fizzled away as my eyes opened. I still hadn't understood how I was able to see fractions of someone else's past. Someone I had never met. Though deep down I wondered if it was because she was my mother. There was no other answer. The emotions I felt there was no denying they were coming from her. Abbie the woman I always thought to me my mother and the high priestess were nothing more than mere figures. Figures with only a small part to play. Looking around the room Roman was as usual nowhere to be seen. I hated this. I always thought my mate would be there when I opened my eyes, except nine times out of ten I was alone in the bed. Looking at the time on the clock I was shocked to replace I had slept most of the day away. As I went to open the door my stomach growled having not eaten anything since breakfast. Not that it had stayed down.
As I walked through the pack house heading to the dining room omegas would look at me then mumble between them. At first I ignored their lingering looks and whispers but when I reached the dining room and everyone suddenly went quiet I snapped.
"I'm getting real sick and tired of everyone talking behind my back. If any of you have anything to say then grow some fucking balls and say it to my face." Using the best resting bitch face I could form I stared at each and everyone of them until they looked away. I was sick of them treating me like I was beneath them.
"Feel better?" Turning round Layla and who I assumed was her mate stood behind me. "I knew I would like you." Layla chuckled as she made her way to the buffet that had been set up. Following her I grabbed myself a plate of food and sat at the table I knew to be reserved for the ranked members.
"We haven't met, I'm Lewis."

"Layla told me about you and I'm glad to see your happy to stick up for yourself. To many she-wolves these days aren't willing to speak their minds." I didn't miss the side eye he gave his mate. Layla however did elbowing him with a chuckle as she registered what he had said. "I love you." Lewis smiled as he pecked his mate's cheek while she pretended to be upset with him.
Watching at the way they acted with each other was something I hoped one day to be able to do with Roman. We had fun together don't get me wrong, but right now everything was so stressful. By the time I had finished eating Roman still hadn't arrived. I had tried to mind link him several times only for him to block me out each time.
"Do you guys know where Roman is?" Lewis looked to Layla who looked back at her plate of food. It was obvious she knew something. "Layla?"
"I'm sorry Cleo, I can't tell you."
"You are joking right? He's my mate."
"Yes, and your pregnant. It's not safe for you to be where he is right now."
"Damn right. I remember becoming livid each time you went into the dungeons when preg..." Having realised what he had said he instantly stopped talking. Layla smacked the top of his head as she glared at him.
Getting up I ran to the dungeons. My mind was creating all kinds of scenarios. Had they captured Daphne? Lucille? I didn't know but needed to. As I reached the rusted metal doors that led underground two of the guards tried to stop me from entering. Forming a tiny flame in my hand I hit them with it. It wouldn't seriously harm them but would give me the time I needed to get pass them. As I came to the bottom of the stairs a mans scream echoed off the walls. My stomach dropped as the fresh coppery smell of blood entered my nose. Who the fuck did they have down here and what were they doing?
Fear suddenly coursed through me pushing me faster to the end of the corridor. Stopping at the half-opened door my jaw dropped. Todd hung from the ceiling; one arm was laying on the ground beneath him while the other had been skinned.
