Cleo's POV

The smell of burning flesh was quick to overpower the scent of blood and faeces. This was a side I knew Roman had but a side I never wished to see. Todd's screams had me paralysed my eyes glued to his mangled yet breathing body. How anyone could withstand what they were doing was beyond me. To even dish out that kind of torture had my stomach twisting.

As Todd fell unconscious from the pain of his flesh being melted away, Roman was quick to use his air element to rapidly cool the burning causing it to blister. With the cool air it also bought Todd back around. It was then the viscous gut- wrenching screams would continue. My hand covering my mouth as I witnessed first hand just how ruthless my mate and his father could be.

My mate so stuck and focused he hadn't even registered me standing there. His father however had, a look of horror on his face. After he walked away unscathed when I set him ablaze, I had my suspicions. This here only confirming he still had his gift. Axel raised his arm and began moving his wrist in a circular motion. The flames that once again encased Todd slowly died out giving him a small reprieve from what he had been forced to endure.

"What the fuck dad?" Roman growled at Axel whose eyes remained on mine all while nodding in my direction alerting Roman to my presence.

Shaking my head at how sick and twisted my mate and his father were, I turned and ran. I didn't want to see that. I didn't need to see that. Images of bubbling and blistering flesh as they toyed with a man that begged for death would now be forever ingrained into my mind.

"CLEO!" Roman chased after me his hand grabbing mine that familiar warm tingle spreading up my arm as I reached the top floor. "What were you doing down there Cleo?"

"You really don't want to be questioning me after what I just had to witness." Pulling my hand from his and ignoring the call of our bond, I pushed the door open only for Roman to spin me back to face him.

"You wouldn't have witnessed anything had you not been down there. I've already told you it's not a place for women, yet you deliberately went against me and went down there anyway. If you saw something you didn't like, then I'm afraid that's on you. Not me."

"Why?"

"Why what?" Taking a step back he crossed his arms over his bare glistening chest. The way his muscles flexed, the moonlight causing his sweat to sparkle had my eyes bulging. Thoughts of my tongue running along them entering my mind. Though as quick as my spout of arousal had come, it had disappeared. Lustful thoughts replaced with images of Roman and his father melting away a man's flesh playing on an endless loop. "Why was you torturing him like that?"

"Why not?"

"Seriously? You said you were going to kill him days ago. Not only do I replace out you didn't, but you're torturing the fuck out of him!" The fact it was Todd a man I had been intimate with wasn't what bothered me. What bothered me was that Roman had said one thing only to then do another.

"It's not nice when someone doesn't stick to their word is it?"

"Fuck you Roman." Shaking my head, I walked away. How could he seriously use that against me. Had the pains I felt been severe I would have told him.

As I entered the courtyard, I stopped to take a double look. Goosebumps rose upon my skin as a sudden sense of unease swirled within me. That feeling you get when someone is watching you. Watching your every move.

Looking around at the empty field that surrounded the courtyard my eyes darted to a gap in the trees. The silhouette of a woman standing there a red light moving from their face to their hip. The strong scent of tobacco wafting through the air leaving me feeling nauseous thanks to my heightened sense of smell. This woman had never smoked a day in her life, though I guess that was just something else that was now different about her.

"You shouldn't be here." I felt relieved to see she was ok, but I wasn't happy to see her by any means. Something I hoped she would tell from the tone of my voice.

"I miss the old you Daphne. Not this new savage bitch of a person." Dropping the cigarette she held to the damp ground I watched as she stamped it out.

"The old me was weak and pathetic. The old me gave up her entire life just to keep her sister safe. How did that sister repay her? She chose the fucker she spent six months running from and pushed that once loyal sister to the side." "That's not true! I would never have pushed you away." It was true. I may have had a lot on my plate and not spent as much time as I should have with her, but I certainly hadn't pushed her out. I had just met my mate, just found out I was pregnant. I thought she understood that.

"Oh, but you did and so I adapted. I found a group of people that accepted me. People that became family." Daphne stood there her hand on her hip looking all smug as she announced that the pack of rogues she had fallen in with were her family.

"Family? Please you're not family to them and you're not my family anymore either. You lost me the moment you murdered my mate's mother! She was innocent. If you were angry, you should have come at me. Not her!" I struggled to keep my emotions in check. My sister had always been the constant in my life and now the woman standing in front of me was nothing more than a mere stranger. Sure, she looked the same but there was no denying she was a different person. A once happy woman with a smile that would light up an entire room, now gone and replaced with a soulless bitch.

"What about Eric? He's your mate, isn't he?" For a split second I thought I saw her eye twitch. Eric being her mate was clearly something she didn't want to get out. Something she thought she could keep forever hidden away. "He's nothing. Just like you... nothing. Well, that's not exactly true. You're technically an incubator whose days are numbered."

"What do you want Daphne?" That was the question she had been waiting for. As the corners of her lips curled up into a smile, a series of growls and howls came from the woods behind her.

Daphne's POV

Cleo went to step backwards her eyes glossing over. I knew without a shadow of a doubt she was mind linking that murderer mate of hers. Roman the almighty alpha... yeh fucking right.

Placing two fingers into my mouth I whistled. Upon hearing the signal another wolf approached. Cleo had met her before, only not in this form. I watched silently as the coffee-coloured wolf stalked towards Cleo who had just realised how close she was her mind link having come to an end. The wolf looked to me waiting for my command. Nodding my head, the wolf leaped at my sister causing her to tumble backwards.

What I hadn't expected was for Cleo to already have known about the powers she possessed. As she raised her arms the wolf bounced off an invisible shield hitting the ground with a thud.

"Guess it's my turn." Smirking at my sister's confused expression, I closed my eyes and shifted.

The feeling of bones snapping and popping as they rearranged while Hazel came out to play. I had been looking forwards to this moment. My eyes jolted open as I was thrown across the courtyard. There he stood Roman the almighty alpha, soon to be dead alpha. As the coffee-coloured wolf regained her balance together we attacked.

Hazel was quicker and lighter on her feet than I remember her being as she bit into Romans wolfs back leg before he had even noticed. The taste of his warm blood filling out mouth. Locking our jaw as he tried to shake us off, I thought we would have the advantage. Cleo however had other ideas. Hazel whimpered as a jolt of electricity shot through her. Our jaw went slack as every muscle in our body convulsed hitting the ground as we writhed in the dirt.

"Cleo get inside!" The moment I heard that voice everything inside me restricted.

My heartbeat hammered inside my chest so hard I thought it would break free. Images of his face, the feeling of his lips on mine while his hands roamed my body. All the appointments I missed just to be with him. The way my body craved his touch, craved to have him inside me yet my physical state had prevented us from going the full distance. I had done everything I could to try and forget him. To forget that he was destined to me as I was to him. Our eyes locked as he pulled Cleo towards the pack house with all his might. Had he seen that family for what they truly were, Eric and I could have stood a chance, but I knew he would never abandon his alpha and that's why he too would fall.
