Fated To Roman: The Almighty Alpha -
Sixty-Two
Roman's POV
Seeing Layla in the grip of Brent had us seething. He had once been a member of our pack until he was banished by my mother, forced to become rogue for the assault of several she-wolves. As our eyes locked, he smirked, but Balthazar was quick to unhand him and free our sister.
I didn't have time to think about where my pup may be because I knew Layla would never have gotten caught while she was in her possession. Wherever she had hidden her, I knew she was safe.
With Brent remaining in human form, it was clear how he had improved in combat. His fists certainly packed a punch, but he would never hurt anyone again when this was over. With Balthazar retreating, I got to handle the situation personally. Taking a deep breath, I ran at him, dropping to my stomach and using a pool of blood on the ground to slide between his legs, missing his next attack. Swinging my foot under him, he fell but quickly steadied himself. Standing, I wrapped my arm around his neck, placing him in a choke hold while placing the other hand on the side of his face. Forcing my strength into the hand on his face, I pushed, attempting to snap his neck. As Brent grabbed a handful of my hair, I grunted as he pulled me over him and to the ground.
My eyes found Layla's wolf the moment she howled. Biologically we were only half-siblings, but in our hearts, we were full. Something that was proven by the way we fought for each other time and time again. Her wolf may not hold the full strength an Alpha should, but she wasn't weak by any means. She had spent her entire life building herself to prove she was nothing like her birth mother. Yet anyone who truly knew Layla could tell how pure and wholeheartedly good she
was.
With speed, her wolf was on Brent's back, her teeth tearing into his neck. While she had him distracted, my hand shifted to that of my beasts and sliced them over his chest. Only when he fell to his knees did Layla's wolf release him. 'She's safe.' Nodding in thanks, I watched as my sister ran to the defense of another pack member.
Without warning, my vision blurred. It took a moment to realize I was seeing through Cleo's eyes. To allow me to witness what I did after she created the block and placed it between us, I knew she was in trouble. "SURRENDER, AND THIS WILL ALL BE OVER. DO MORE HAVE TO DIE BEFORE YOU UNDERSTAND THAT YOU HAVE NO PLACE IN THIS WORLD!"
"I HAVE MORE PLACE HERE THAN ANY OF YOU!"
"STUPID GIRL! BURN IT DOWN!"
"But, sir, there are women and children inside!"
"I said, BURN IT DOWN! If you can't do it, then I'll have you put in there with them, and you, too, will DIE!"
Several members of the council's guard surrounded the pack house, but my main concern was what their intentions were. Cleo was inside; she could protect herself, but the others couldn't. They needed me.

'How'd you figure that? She doesn't hold good at the moment. Everything she does is encouraged by the darkness within her.'
'No matter how much darkness is inside her, her heart will always be good. She holds more power than any of us now, and she's hiding inside the standing part of the pack house to protect those women and children. She sure as hell isn't hiding because she's scared.' Balthazar had a point. She still knew what was right and wrong; it was the only explanation.
With the central part of the house blown to bits, it was only a matter of time until the guard found their way in.
Just as I went to shift and fight my way to my mate's side, a series of howls came from the woods surrounding us. One by one, more wolves appeared, and only when the large charcoal wolf appeared did I know who they were. Cleo's POV
"They're going to get in here; what do we do?"

"There's nothing we can do; praying isn't going to do us any good, not now."
"Will you both stop! There are children back there, and they need hope. Not this!"
As I listened to the women, argue, I couldn't help but roll my eyes. I didn't want to intervene, but when the council's guard snuffed out the life of a child, how could I not? I may be the Queen of hell, but even I wouldn't stoop to such lengths. Everything inside me screamed to stay and help them that I could complete my mission afterward.
"SHUT UP, ALL OF YOU! You will all be fine, do as your all told, and everything will be ok." Stunned, the women nodded and finally fell silent.
I set to protect the doors by giving them orders to replace something to defend themselves with should the guard get inside. Blue flames spread in the doorways, past the windows, and round creating the perfect circle. Three of the five women here were pregnant and unable to shift, while the other two looked to be in their fifties. The pregnant women huddled around the four children while the older women stood beside me, ready to fight for their lives.
I had let my block down so Roman knew the trouble his pack members faced; however, as hard as I tried to fight it, I longed to sense his presence. A feeling that was eased when I felt his connection.
It didn't take long for the front doors to smash open, splinters of wood flying everywhere. As one of the pregnant women screamed, I spun on my heel to replace a large shard of wood skewered through one of her legs. Seeing harm come to a pregnant woman, anger quickly rose within me. Flashbacks of what Hades had done to me played in my mind setting me off like an erupting volcano.
A fierce growl left me as I stormed through the flamed circle and straight for the first member of the guard I saw. Spinning around, I kicked him in the chest hard enough to send him flying into the center of my circle. Snarling at the elders as they watched the scene unfold, I walked back to their now-injured man. Grabbing a handful of his straw-like hair, I raised his head and dragged him to the injured woman. Raising his head again, I forced it down onto the wooden shard, ensuring it killed him.
