Fated To Roman: The Almighty Alpha -
Sixty-Three
Cleo's POV
As the sound of screaming bought me back to my surroundings, I was shocked by what I saw. Never in my life, with or without the darkness, had I committed something so violent and atrocious. The guard's face was completely unrecognisable. It had been caved in from where id bashed it down on the wooden spike time and time again until there was almost nothing of his head left. I threw the corpse to the ground and took a step back, nausea building within me as my hands began to tremble.
I had been so lost in my rampage that I hadn't even noticed Roman arrive. The look on his face was something that I would never forget. A mixture of fear and disgust. The way his eyes roamed over my face before turning his back to me made me feel even more sick. As addicting as the darkness was becoming, the last thing I wanted was for him to give up on me. He was supposed to be my salvation.
I watched as he checked the children over for injuries before ripping the bottom of his shorts and tying it around the pregnant woman's leg after removing the piece of wood.
"Right kids, listen up. I need all of you to keep your eyes closed and hold hands. Ms Yvonne is going to lead you somewhere safe, ok." After nodding their little heads, each child squeezed their eyes tightly shut and held the hand of the child next to them, patiently awaiting their next set of instructions.
"But what of..." the woman Roman had spoken of raised from her knees, a look of pure horror on her face.
"He's alive and on his way to a hospital, don't worry. Once it's safe, you have my word that you'll be reunited with him." Ms Yvonne squeezed Roman's hands before turning her attention to the children.
As they made their way out of the front of the building, I worked up the courage to finally speak. "Roman I..."
"Not now, Cleo; in case you've forgotten, there's a war going on, and it's far from over." Without saying anything else, he left me alone in the wreckage.
Yes, I had gone too far, but it wasn't as if I were in control. Though I think that was the problem. While I was like this, I was unpredictable, which made me dangerous. Looking at the mangled corpse that lay at my feet, I now realise how far into the darkness I had submerged.
I should have thought over my actions before I rushed into making my decision. Instead, I chose what I believed to be the easiest option, consume the darkness, when the reality is, I should have trusted my mate. I just hoped the Moon Goddess wouldn't hold my misdoings against me when this was over.
'We don't need him.' I shook my head at Freya's words. Of course we needed him; he was our other half, and I knew I would truly lose myself without him.
Ignoring my demonic wolf, I exited the pack house only to witness members of the council's guard being taken down one by one. I watched as a group of wolves flanked one of the elders, moving with precision as they attacked. There was no denying these wolves were skilled, but where had they come from, and why were they here?
Roman's POV
I knew Cleo wasn't herself, but it was still no excuse. There were children present; they were scared as it was and didn't need to witness a man's head being smashed in. I prayed that what they saw wouldn't plague their dreams when they went to sleep tonight. I had been in their position before and knew the damage that could be caused.
"Where's Cleo?" My grandfather looked over my shoulder, expecting to see her. I knew I could trust this man with my life; after all, this had once been his pack, but I wasn't sure where his loyalty would lay when it came to Cleo. "I don't know." "Roman..."
"Why does it matter? You're well aware of her predicament, so isn't it best she's not here?" I knew better than to let my mouth get carried away in front of him, but right now, I was struggling to control my emotions. "SIR!"
"What is it?" I crossed my arms over my chest knowing that whatever this man was about to say wouldn't be good.
"We've regained control of the town, but we're unable to push them back any further. They're standing their ground, but the fighting has stopped."
"Just ensure they can't get back in for now." The man bowed before running back in the direction from which he came. "What?"
"I never thought I'd see the day the Alpha King went against the council."

"Would you rather I stayed back in the Royal Kingdom?" As he crossed his arms and raised his now silver eyebrow, I couldn't help but laugh. When I was a child, the look he gave me used to scare the shit out of me, but now it did nothing to terrify me. Now I knew there were real monsters out there.
"I'm sorry. Thank you for coming to our rescue." Dropping his arms, he nodded while giving me a small smile.
"Contrary to popular belief, Roman, but I care about this pack. Or did you forget I was once their Alpha?"
"Of course not; I just wish I hadn't failed you."
"You have spent your entire life fighting to prove yourself; you fell in love with a beautiful woman. Well, put the fact she was Hade's daughter aside, but you fought to be together. You've created your very own little bundle of joy, and now you're fighting again to ensure she and her mother are safe. Sure, you've taken the bumpy route, but there is no doubt in either my or your grandmother's mind that you won't succeed. You're wilful and loyal, Roman, and they are rare traits to have these days. So, I will say this only once, you have not now, nor will you ever fail me. I'm proud of you, my boy, and I know your mother would be too. May the Goddess bless her soul. Let's get this over with before anyone hears me and thinks the King has become soft."
As we raced to the town centre, I found Cleo sitting on a bench. Everything inside me told me to go and wrap my arms around her, but her blue flames took her away when she saw me.
With the Royal Packs elite force keeping the council away, we set to make a new plan. The force with which they had hit us wasn't something they had thrown together in a rush; it was well calculated, only proving things had been leading up to this the entire time.
My fathers had set up a tent in the middle of the town centre, and on the table lay blueprints. Taking a closer look, I realised they were of the embassy layout. Hitting them there, on their territory, they wouldn't expect it. The oldest and longest-reigning elders hadn't been present today, meaning they had stayed behind and were calling the shots from a safe distance. If we took them out, this whole thing would be over. It was a mission that didn't guarantee our survival, but it would one day be in the history books.
