First Love After Marriage by Flora Nancy -
Chapter 29
Chapter 29
Chapter 29
James had never seen a family of such abhorrent shamelessness.
Iris was a nice person, but how could she have nurtured children like them?
Juana’s realization dawned upon her that this visit bore no fruits of advantage. According to what Nadia’s husband said, she probably even needed to pay several tens of thousands of dollars instead.
Thinking of this, Juana trotted up to Iris.
“Mother, it is getting late, and our visit here has run its course. I have to get back to the fire and get some food for your
son–in–law.
“I shall take my leave for now, and I will come to see you another day.”
After saying that, she hastened her steps towards the door of the ward.
Ed also said, “Mother, I too have to leave now. I need to go back and take care of my supermarket. You know, if I go back too late, it’ll invariably summon the reproach of my wife.”
He secretly calculated a bill in his heart, and he had to pay a sum of at least about 40 thousand dollars. He was not a fool.
Andrew then said, “Mother, I, too, must go to work now. If I stay here any longer, I’ll have no income today to buy food.”
After that, they all departed.
But how could James allow them to go so easily?
They dared to affront his wife in such a manner. It seemed that they really got a nerve.
James felt the need to teach them how to be good and filial people.
Fetching his mobile device from his pocket, he engaged his assistant, Harold, through a phone call.
Harold had only just returned to his office from the hospital when the call from James reached him.
“Enlist a lawyer of the legal department to address the matter of Iris’s alimony, as well as the medical expenses. I want to see the outcome that aligns with my expectations.”
James was originally disinclined to intervene in the matter of Iris’s medical bills, but what Nadia’s relatives did was too bad.
Their temerity in treating his wife in such ways was tantamount to inviting their own demise.
Nadia couldn’t believe what she was hearing as her husband issued his directives.
James was merely a programmer at the company, yet he was exerting authority over the legal department.
This was completely unexpected for Nadia.
“Also, please investigate if Ed is involved in managing a supermarket. You have a day to complete this task. I have no intention of allowing that supermarket to continue its operations.”
As he uttered these words, he exited the room with his phone, keen on keeping Nadia unaware of what he was going to do.
“And replace out what Andrew and Juana are doing now. Provide me with a thorough investigation of them. Go teach them a lesson. I don’t want to see them living so well.”
Since they didn’t know what living a hard life really meant, he would like to offer them a hand and let them know.
“Yes, Mr. Howe!”
It seemed the Lewis family had truly angered James.
James had never resorted to the company’s legal department to address personal matters before.
Harold couldn’t help but feel sympathy for the Lewis family, who had truly irritated James.
“Mr. Howe, is the evening event proceeding as usual?”
Knowing what happened to James and Nadia today, Harold didn’t know if the arrangements James asked him to make earlier would proceed as usual.
“Yes, everything is proceeding as usual.”
That was his surprise for Nadia.
Now, only Nadia and Iris remained in the room.
Iris said angrily. “How did I raise these three ungrateful troublemakers? If they dare to do anything bad again, I won’t hesitate to show no mercy to them, and I’ll just think as if I never gave birth to them.”
Nadia looked at Iris, whose anger caused her to tremble, and she moved closer to grasp Iris’s hand tightly.

“Grandma, don’t be mad at those bad people. It’s bad for your health.
“In the days to come, you’ll have me and my sister by your side, and we’ll take care of you in your old age.”
Hearing what Nadia said, Iris nodded.
“I didn’t cherish you both in vain. So, my reliance shall rest solely upon you.”
With this declaration, Iris withdrew her hand from Nadia’s and put it on the back of Nadia’s hand, where she bestowed a gentle pat.
Throughout the afternoon, Nadia remained in the hospital, keeping company with Iris.
As for James, once he had finished affairs in the hospital, he went back to the company to resolve the mounting stack of
contracts.
He glanced at the time and found that it was already five o’clock in the evening.
Nadia left the hospital and took out her phone. From her address book, she retrieved James’s number and dialed it.
After two rings, a deep voice emanated from the other end.
“What’s the matter?”
“Mr. Howe, would you be available this evening? I am inclined to extend an invitation for dinner as a gesture of my gratitude for your assistance earlier in the day.”
Had James not arrived promptly. Ed’s slap could have landed on her face.
James had not anticipated that Nadia would take the initiative to invite him to dine with him.
His original intention had been to wait until after he had dinner and then show Nadia the surprise he prepared for her.
“Okay. Then, I shall collect you from the hospital later, he responded in a subdued tone.
“No need. I have already left the hospital. Where is your workplace located? I intend to make my way there and await you!”
She knew that he worked as a programmer, yet she didn’t know where he worked. Nadia wanted to take this opportunity to get to know him better.
Upon hearing that she was to arrive at his place of work, James felt a flutter of anxiety. He did not wish for Nadia to ascertain his identity so prematurely.
Furthermore, the Chevrolet Sail was still in the underground parking lot of Orchid Valley.
James paused for a moment, and Nadia’s voice came from the other end of the line again. “Tell me the address of the company where you work. I’ll be there soon.”
“Alright, the company is next to the Howe Group Building. Call me when you get
there.”
James didn’t know what to say, so he had to tell a random lie.
Nadia detected a hint of familiarity in the name “Howe Group“.
Straining her memory, she eventually recollected a snippet from her best friend Clare, mentioning that Mr. Howe of the Howe Group stood as the wealthiest gentleman in Kingsley.
Could this be a mere coincidence? After all, her husband shared the surname “Howe“.
Shaking her head, Nadia dismissed the thought. It appeared preposterous that he, with his affluence, would choose her to be his wife if her husband was that “Mr. Howe“.
Besides, Daisy bore no semblance to the wives of opulent households.
Daisy exuded an affable demeanor, akin to her own grandma, looking just like an unassuming elderly lady.
Unlike the rich old ladies depicted on television, where they assumed an air of haughtiness, adorned with jewels and surrounded by retinues of servants.
The people of the Howe Group were all the top rich, and her husband only shared the same surname. After all, his mode of conveyance was a dilapidated Chevrolet Sail.
Contemplating this, Nadia ceased her ruminations and took a taxi. After she got in the car, she told the driver the address of the Howe Group
The driver, a man of middle age, cast a genial glance toward Nadia with a broad smile.
“Wow! You look so youthful, but you are already working at the Howe Group. I heard that the wages over there for an ordinary employee amount to a handsome sum of 0.8 to 10 thousand dollars. per month.”
Feeling a flush of embarrassment, Nadia replied, “You’ve misconstrued. It is my husband who works at the company next to the Howe Group. I’m just going there to replace him.”
Chapter 29
Oh, I see! I know, the Howe Group is not for an ordinary man, after all.”
His son, a high–achieving graduate of a top university, was still struggling to gain admittance to the Howe Group despite leveraging connections and offerings.
Those who wanted to work there needed a certain quantum of work experience and a master’s degree for working in the Howe Group.
Their conversation continued during the journey, affording Nadia a modest understanding of the Howe Group.
Clearly, for an undergraduate student of the acting department like herself, she would never have a chance to work in the Howe Group.
Upon hanging up the phone, James directed his bodyguard, Xavier, to steer his Chevrolet Sail to the company’s entrance. As he just left the Howe Group and slid into the Chevrolet Sail, James was met with the sight of Nadia alighting from a taxi ahead.
As Nadia got off the taxi, a cacophony of honks reached her ears. She turned her head and saw the Chevrolet Sail nearby. James was seated inside.
She greeted him with a wave and then strode in his direction.
Advancing toward the passenger side, she was about to unlatch the door when a cry resounded from behind.
“Mr. Howe, it’s truly you!”
Turning on her heel, Nadia saw a portly gentleman, clad in formal attire and seemingly flustered, striding toward the Chevrolet Sail with an air of astonishment and nervousness.
