Her Revenge Contract -
Chapter 104
Xavier's POV
The most horrific scream escaped my mate's lips, and I froze, feeling my heart pound in my throat.
"Greyson!" I yelled out in panic, "What's happening?"
I didn't dare take my eyes off Nathan, not while he was holding the gun.
"Luna," Greyson gasped with so much emotion that he sounded like he was in shock at what he was seeing, but before he could even continue to explain, the sound of breaking bones filled the air, and another painful cry left Kate's lips. "Finally!" Ray mused, proud and excited. He suddenly became more active in my mind, jumping around out of excitement.
Did he know?
Was he keeping secrets?
Why hasn't he warned me?
"Stop!" I growled at him, feeling annoyed at his sudden happiness.
Did he forget where we were and what situation we were in?
I kept my focus on Nathan, watching his facial expression.
For a moment, it seemed like he was in awe, glancing past me at Kate.
Has she finished her shift?
I shook my head at the thought-the first shift would at least take an hour or more.
"Wow!" Greyson gasped over the link. I could hear wonder in his voice.
"What?" I growled, annoyed. What the f*ck was he seeing?
"Luna!" he answered.
I growled fiercely over the link, getting angry out of frustration.
Was Greyson in some kind of spell where he couldn't form proper sentences? He was supposed to be my eyes and ears! Kate's breathing started to slow and ended up in small sounds of whimpering, and moments later it died out.
Nathan's eyes suddenly widened, and for a moment I considered the option of turning around and having a look. "That's impossible!" I internally gasped, "There was no way that her shift could be completed!"
"It is," Ray mused happily.
"This is just perfect," Nathan said with an evil grin on his lips, and I turned my head, taking a peek at Kate.
My heart swelled the second my gaze landed on Kate's wolf.
Power and dominance radiated off her, and I couldn't help but admire her beautiful wolf.
She was larger than the average Alpha wolf and might even stand shoulder to shoulder with Ray.
Under the full moon's light, Kate's wolf's fur looked as if freshly fallen snow was covering it.
I couldn't take my eyes off her, and I noticed that there was some sort of energy field moving all around her.
Our eyes locked, and the familiar golden eyes made my heart beat even faster.
"She knows she is our mate," Ray mused dreamily.
"Will she be able to hear us?" I asked, hopeful.
"As soon as she marks us," he answered, "but until then, the bond is not complete."
I nodded in understanding.
"Welcome to earth," I whispered.
I knew Kate had a wolf, but I never expected her to be this graceful!
The sound of a gun going off startled me, and before I came to my senses about what was happening, Kate's wolf released a snarl and pounced on Nathan, clawing him with all her might. Did she just pass me?
Did I miss it?
I shook the questions off and shot forward. I need to help Kate!
Massive arms grabbed hold of me and forced me to the ground.
"What the f*ck!" I growled, seeing Nathan's man.
Greyson pulled him off of me and threw him to the side. Then the rest of the warriors took turns ripping him apart. I could hear him scream and try to shift, but it died off moments later. Greyson pulled me to my feet, and I readied myself to shift. Yet, when I saw Kate's wolf standing motionless over Nathan's lifeless body, I stopped.
Did Kate manage to kill Nathan?
Was that even possible?
I shook my head-it couldn't be; there was no way that a newly shifted wolf wouldn't be able to take on a fully grown, trained Alpha.
I quickly walked toward where Kate was standing, making sure not to make any sudden movements that startled her.
Kate's gaze was pinned on Nathan's face; she looked pained and almost unhappy about what she had done.
Was she feeling sorry for Nathan?
My eyes scanned around Nathan's body beneath her; blood was oozing out of the wounds, leaving a pool of blood around them.
She indeed did a number on him; there was no way that he would survive the injuries.
I knitted my eyebrows together and looked at Kate. She was still standing over Nathan's body.
What was she doing?
I quietly took a step closer, and my gaze landed on Nathan's face. It was basically unrecognizable, with deep claw marks running over his left eye and down his throat. "Kate," I whispered, "are you alright?"
The wolf turned her massive head toward me, and sadness crossed her eyes.
Was it because this was her first kill?
Did she feel sorry for Nathan?
A breath escaped her lips, and she started to sway from side to side.
"Kate, are you okay?" I asked, and I grabbed hold of her. I lifted the wolf into my arms and took a few steps away from Nathan's body.
I watched in amazement as Kate returned to her human self in my arms.
"That was remarkable," Ray gasped, amazed.
"I haven't seen anything like that before," I said, and Kate lifted her hand and cupped my face. She smiled and then slowly let go of me while closing her eyes. "Kate?" I called out in panic and quickly set her down on the floor.
What the f*ck?
"Greyson!" I yelled out in panic when I saw blood covering my hands. I pulled my shirt off, covered her, and started to search for any signs of wounds.
My heart was racing out of control, and Ray was scratching for control.
"No, no, no!" I mumbled to myself, "I can't lose you!"
"Greyson!" I yelled out hysterically, and my gaze snapped to search for him.
Greyson must have heard the panic in my voice and hurried to my side, kneeled next to Kate, and took her pulse.
"Help me turn her over," Greyson said. "I think she is hurt somewhere else."
My mind froze.
When Greyson saw that I didn't react, he called two warriors closer.
I growled furiously when they came too close to Kate and quickly moved away.
"Stop being stubborn and help me then!" Greyson growled at me. "Luna is hurt; she might be shot!"
Shot?
Then it hit me as if someone had poured ice water over my head.
Nathan pulled the trigger; the gun went off, but everything happened so fast that no one knew what the bullet hit.
I carefully lifted Kate, and Greyson confirmed his suspicion.
My heart sank.
"It's already healing," he said, but worry still crossed his eyes.
"How bad is it?" I asked.
"Not sure; we will have to take her to the doctor!" He said that and got to his feet.
"Will she lose...?" I couldn't complete my thoughts. Thinking about it was so painful. I never got a chance to even tell Kate the news, and I wondered if she knew.
"I am not sure," Greyson answered, shaking his head. "We will have to confirm with the doctor if she lost the pup."
