Her Revenge Contract
Chapter 105

Xavier's POV

The peeping of the hospital's medical equipment was adding to my anxiety.

Kate hasn't woken, and it's been three days already.

I sighed. The nonstop calls from the media were driving me insane. The kidnapping of the heir of the King Group caused a wave in the entire business world, and because the police did not disclose any information on the kidnapping, the media speculated on what happened.

I haven't gone to the office the last couple of days; I just couldn't bear to be away from Kate. Greyson handled my company affairs, and Kelly helped wherever she could at King's.

My gaze landed on the TV, where I saw a couple of reporters standing in front of the hospital, reporting on Kate's health. Not that they had much to report on. They only knew she was hospitalized.

My heart scrunched hurtfully in my chest. The doctor confirmed that Kate had lost the pup she was carrying. She has lost the future heir to both companies.

Ray howled painfully in my mind. The news had saddened him even more than it had me.

I was shocked when I found out that Kate might be pregnant. Kelly suspected it when Kate fell sick in the ladies' room at the Celebration dinner. I gave the doctor a call, remembering that he said he wanted to speak to me.

I was excited, but I wasn't sure how Kate would feel about having a pup. We never had the chance to talk about it.

I sighed. I still don't know how Kate would have reacted when she found out or if she knew she was pregnant.

Another sad breath escaped my lips, and I got up and walked to the window.

Days have flown into one. Nothing else mattered more than Kate.

What was keeping her from waking up?

Why was it taking so long?

There wasn't any silver in the bullet, and the gunshot wasn't vital, not for her in any case. She should have woken up days ago!

I scented Greyson before I heard him enter Kate's hospital room.

I had made sure she had her own private room in the north wing, secluded from any praying eyes.

"Alpha," he greeted me, and I could hear the sadness reflecting in his voice. The whole pack was like that: sad, worried, and depressed. I wonder how Kate's pack is feeling about her being in the hospital.

Kate had charmed her way into my pack members' hearts, and Greyson wasn't any different; he had become very attached to Kate, and her not being well was making him miserable.

"Morning, Greyson," I said, looking at the people below.

"Is there any news on Luna?" He asked, sounding hopeful, and took a seat.

The hospital staff were ordered not to say a word about Kate's wellbeing. Even Greyson couldn't get a report from anyone working at the hospital.

I sighed and turned around.

"There is still no change," I answered, feeling emotionally tired. "The bullet was removed, and she is completely healed. Technically, there is nothing wrong with her."

Ray had tried to connect with Kate's wolf, but even that wasn't possible.

It was like Kate and her wolf were gone.

The doctor did a brain scan, and there was a lot of activity. The doctor eventually said that we just had to wait until she was ready to wake up.

Greyson nodded, and his gaze landed on Kate. He didn't dare reach out and touch her hand; he knew what I would do to him if he tried. I had become even more protective of her.

"John fled," Greyson suddenly said, turning toward me to read my reaction.

"Oh?" I said, knitting my eyebrows together. "When did that happen?"

"Last night," he said. "All the staff working in the King's residence were also sent home. They were told that there was no need for them to keep working at the residence."

"Why would John make such a drastic move?" I asked, pulling my hands through my hair. "There is no evidence that points to his involvement in Kate's kidnapping, and even if there was, Alpha Nathan is dead. What about his wife and daughter? Are they still here?" "He left them behind," he answered. "I have a feeling this isn't over."

"You are not the only one," I agreed.

With everything that had happened in the last couple of months, I could only predict that something was about to happen.

Why would John now flee his pack?

Why would he leave his wife and daughter behind?

Was he coming back?

Did he go search for backup?

"Do you know where he is going?" I asked.

"No, but Kelly is already busy tracking his flights," he said. "I will keep you updated on what we replace."

"Thanks," I said, wondering if Greyson would get up and leave, but when he didn't, I knew there was something he wanted to discuss, and he looked a bit petrified about telling me. "There is more, isn't there?" I asked.

Greyson slowly nodded his head before he searched my gaze.

"Yeah," he said, nodding, "but I am sure you are not going to like this."

I scrunched my eyebrows together.

Why was Greyson hovering? I was used to bad news, and I always came up with a plan.

"Just tell me, Greyson," I ordered. "Whatever it is, I will handle it."

Greyson shook his head but reached out into his pockets and brought a piece of paper forward.

"What's that?" I asked.

"Councilor Williams gave me a copy. It is Rose and Erika's testimonials," Greyson said, handing me the report.

I quickly scanned through the report, shaking my head.

"It seems as if Rose had no intention of protecting her mate," I said, handing the report back to him. "This will make things much easier."

A smile followed on my lips, and Greyson nervously shifted in his seat.

"They are not taking any responsibility for their part," Greyson said; "they are blaming John for everything that happened."

"This must be Rose's idea," I said. "Erika doesn't have a brain to come up with such schemes; she uses sex to get what she wants."

"I think you should submit some of the video footage of Erika to Councilor Williams," I said. "He will make a call and stop them should they decide to flee.

"The ones where you torture her?" He asked and raised an eyebrow.

"Yes," I said and laughed, seeing Erika's horrified expression when I brought the piping-hot blade to her face. I immediately felt guilty about laughing, and Greyson noticed it. "Xavier," he said, going back to best friend mode and skipping the formalities, "it is okay to be happy and laugh."

"It doesn't feel right while she lays unconscious on that hard bed!" I growled darkly.

"I know," he said, "but I have a feeling that she can still sense us, and she is preparing for what's to come."
