Her Revenge Contract
Chapter 108

Katherine's POV

I got to my feet in a hurry out of shock at the thick stack of documents scattered all over the floor.

Greyson rushed in, seeing my terrified face.

"Luna?" Greyson asked and slowly approached me.

I couldn't utter a word and clicked on the message link. A picture of the scene opened up on my phone.

Although the picture was taken from an angle exposing only half the person's face, I still recognized the person as John.

It was John King, the culprit, who killed my parents and made me suffer.

I hysterically flipped through the page, searching for more information on what had happened.

The news report stated that the accident occurred two hours after he had disembarked the plane, and on his way to a hotel room, he lost his life.

I shook my head as I looked at the photos on my phone. I didn't feel a trace of joy in my heart; on the contrary, there was a trace of sadness.

When I saw the picture of John wrapped in a white sheet, my mind didn't rush to the pleasure of getting revenge but brought up an old memory of the good old days when John was still my uncle John.

I remember him holding me out of love and playing with me in the park when I was a child. The scene maintained so much harmony and love that it made me sad, but then everything changed overnight. "Luna, are you okay?" Greyson asked and looked at my phone.

His eyes widened, but not out of shock.

"I am sorry for your loss, Luna," Greyson said, "and I apologize that I didn't inform you earlier. Alpha Xavier instructed me not to say anything. He is afraid that it would affect you mentally."

I didn't really care what Greyson was mumbling next to me.

I closed the link, feeling my fingers tremble. I took a deep breath, turned around, and rushed out of my office, leaving my belongings behind.

I ended up in the park, walking in the rain as the raindrops washed away my tears.

Why did I feel so angry and miserable?

It was ironic that John died in a 'car crash. Did he die the same way as my parents?

Did someone murder him as well, or did he commit suicide?

I wanted and needed to see John's autopsy report. I need to see with my own eyes that he was really killed in that car accident.

Two hours...

The report said there were two hours between when he disembarked the plane and his death.

Did he see someone after he disembarked the plane?

Was it his father?

Was it someone else?

Was that person responsible for John's death?

And why did John drive so far to a hotel?

I froze on the side of the road when the simple thought of John faking his own death crossed my mind.

Would he go that far?

I shook off the thoughts and sighed. For the moment, all grievances will be set aside until I know the truth about John's death.

The black SUV stopped at the side of the road and Greyson got out and opened the passenger door for me to get in.

The trip back home didn't take long, and Xavier was pacing up and down the foyer when I entered.

"Finally!" Xavier growled, relieved, but when he saw my face, he gave me a look and stepped back.

I tried to force a smile, but it was no use, and tears were burning behind my eyes. I turned around without saying a word and rushed toward my room.

I closed and locked the door behind me.

I could smell Xavier standing on the other side of the door, yet he didn't say anything and walked away.

I slowly turned around, switched on my bedlamp, and searched for the report I had just read.

Everything was still so unreal. I couldn't believe that John was dead.

Another message popped up on my screen, and my eyes widened out of shock.

Startled, I enlarged the words on the report and carefully read through it.

My body shook out in shock, and my face broke out in a cold sweat.

The report stated that the money laundering did not start when John took over but started two years prior, when my father was still alive. Some of the contracts were signed by my father himself. "Kate, can you come out?" Xavier called from the door.

I hurried toward the door.

"What's wrong?" I asked, opening the door.

Xavier kept his face serious, yet his voice was soft.

"Julia has something to tell you," he said, gesturing for me to follow him.

I could hear Julia's voice, yet I didn't go to her immediately and pulled Xavier into my room.

"Look," I said, holding my phone with trembling fingers.

Xavier took his time to read through the report. He was in a hurry.

There was no surprise in Xavier's eyes, except when he came to the last part of the document.

"It states that your father was involved," he asked.

"Seems so," I answered, puzzled.

Something didn't add up; besides, from my father's character, he wouldn't have done this to the company he founded, yet the report proves that he had. I still couldn't believe what I was reading. "This matter won't be resolved overnight," Xavier said. "Let's put it aside and see what Julia has to say."

Julia jumped up the second she saw me and rushed toward me.

"Julia, why are you here?" I asked as I took a seat.

Julia burst into tears, and I realized that Julia had white gloves on and was holding a small black bag.

"I'm sorry, Luna," she said. "When Beta John passed away, I could no longer keep his secrets."

"Okay," I said, "tell me what happened. Tell me the secret that's been eating you alive."

"I am bringing you evidence," she said, looking at Xavier and handing him a flash drive.

"What is that?" I asked, replaceing her gaze.

"I had gone back to fetch the last of my belongings when I saw Rose and Erika in John's study," she said. "I recorded the conversation between them and suddenly remembered where the evidence was buried."

I nodded to Xavier, and he pulled his laptop closer and inserted the flash drive.

Footage of Rose and Erika sprang to life.

Both women were sitting in John's office, their eyes scarlet and swollen.

"Mom," Erika whispered through sobs, "my father is dead. Will things that we pinned on him be revealed?"

Rose rolled her eyes in annoyance and turned to Erika in all seriousness.

"No," Rose replied in a whisper. She looked a bit happy and even relieved that John was dead. "It's better for the both of us for him to be dead. Those things will wash away with his death, and no one would even think to dig deeper." "What about the company?" Erika asked, "Can we still claim it back?"

Upon hearing this, Rose turned her head and gave Erik a hard look.

"The little shares your father had are not enough to continue with money laundering," she said; "it would be better for you to get involved."

Erika pursed her lips together and willingly listened to Rose's arrangement.

"By the way, when I poisoned Andrew and Lidia's coffee, I gave you the silver and wolfbane to get rid of it," Rose said, turning to Erika. "You did get rid of the evidence, didn't you?"

When Erika heard this, she looked a bit startled. She started to play with the hem of her shirt.

"Yeah, I threw it away myself," Erika hesitated, "and buried it under the tree in the backyard."

I remember that there was no monitoring in the backyard, and the ground was always wet there.

"She is lying," Julia said. "It was raining that day. She was too lazy to go out and bury the evidence herself, so she threw it my way and ordered me to throw it away."

Rose was occupied with other things, but when she heard what Erika said, she didn't think too much, nodded, and agreed, and Erika breathed a sigh of relief.

The two who thought they could get away with it didn't think that someone would record their whole conversation.

"Now that Beta John has no hold on me and he is dead, I have the courage to come forward and give you the evidence," Julia said, lifting a small black bag into the air.

"In this black bag are two tubes with wolfbane and liquid silver," Julia said proudly.

Julia opened the black bag containing the bottles and carefully retrieved them.

"I was afraid that I would accidentally touch the contents inside the bag," Julia started to explain. "I asked a friend to borrow me some gloves. I heard that fingerprints can be lifted from something as small as these tubes and then be used as evidence in a criminal case."

Greyson handed me a pair of tweezers, and I carefully lifted a bottle against the light. A single fingerprint was clearly visible on the tube.

I was overjoyed about our replaceings, and I carefully put them back.

"After Erika gave me the bottles," Julia continued. "I had a feeling that something was wrong. I might be old, but I'm not stupid. Then, when she was not paying attention, I took the bottles and replaced them with replicas."

Listening to what Julia said, images unconsciously appeared in my mind, and a series of memories tore at my heart. The pity I felt for John King's family disappeared at that very moment.

This was the start of getting my revenge after all, and I wondered how much more such evidence would surface along the way...
