Her Revenge Contract -
Chapter 50
Katherine's
POV
The next day, all the major newspapers were laced with headlines such as:
"Raven Harvey appeared at the engagement party of Black Umbrella Enterprises Group", "Famous songwriter and singer Raven Harvey danced with a mysterious man at a CEO engagement party", "Raven Harvey appeared at the engagement party, suspected of having an affair with the CEO," and so on.
Our engagement party only focused on Raven Harvey being there, and not once was it mentioned what actually happened at the engagement party.
John must be relieved that the reporters never mentioned anything about Erika cutting my designer's dress.
The drugs John gave Xavier wore off faster than we thought they would, yet we didn't return to the party, and Greyson gave us a ride home.
When I arrived home, I noticed that John and Rose hadn't returned yet, and I assumed they would have stayed over the night in the hotel.
On the morning of Sunday, I heard an SUV coming up on the gravel road. John and the family had disappeared for the weekend, which was maybe the best for all of us.
I got out of bed and watched as Rose and Erika made their way to the front door.
John stayed behind as the woman entered the mansion and turned to his assistant.
"Go and arrange for Erika to start work tomorrow. Remember to keep it secret," he ordered.
The assistant nodded, got back in the car, and drove off.
I wasn't too surprised about the arrangements; I knew John would eventually give in to Erika's demands.
Monday morning was like any other. I made sure to get up early, have an early jog to the pack territory, do my normal workout, and stop and greet some pack members.
In the beginning, I felt a bit out of place. Now I don't care what people think of me. I was here to stay, even if they didn't like me.
I decided to drop by Elsa this morning. I hadn't seen her for some time, and she answered the door before I reached the porch and was able to knock. She looked very happy to see me.
"You knew that I was coming," I said suspiciously, raising an eyebrow.
"Eventually," she answered.
"Eventually?" I openly rolled my eyes at her and crossed my arms.
"Yes," she answered, smiling and lifting her chin, "my sister told me..."
"Is that all she told you?" I asked, holding her gaze.
"Obviously not," she laughed, and her dark eyes sparkled out of delight. "You came here for a reason."
"And you know what I want to know?" I asked, and she nodded her head.
"Yes, you want to know what I said to your father on that faithful day."
"I do," I answered, and Richard came strolling down the passage, smiling when he saw me.
"Morning Luna," he greeted, disappearing into a room.
"Morning Elder Richard..." I called after him.
"Come in, Luna, and have a seat," Elsa said, opening the door for me to enter and showing me to the small living room to take a seat. My gaze moved over the room's light yellow walls, seeing all kinds of family pictures hung on the walls. The room might be small, but it was cozy, and it made me feel warm and loved. Many paragraphs are missing. Read the complete book on Narugi.c(o)m. Elsa took a seat opposite me, her sparkling brown eyes pinned on mine, and for a minute it felt like she was trying to read me. Richard then entered and handed me a cup of coffee, and I thanked him.
"Luna," Elsa started, shifting her head to the side, "the morning Alpha Andrew and Luna Lidia left to fetch you from the airport, I told him that there would be an attack... I was hysterical; I begged him not to go!"
The older woman's face turned pale and looked painful as she recalled the memories of that day.
"Your mother," she said, lifting her gaze, "had whispered into your father's ear, and they both agreed on something."
Elsa became quiet for a minute. I wasn't sure if she was looking for the correct words or if she was reliving the events, but I could see she was trying to make this as painless as possible for me.
"Your mother came to me." My gaze snapped toward Richard, feeling confused. "She told me not to worry and that it was time to have the prophecy fulfilled."
"At first we didn't understand what they were on about," Edna said, and she moved her gaze to her mate.
"That was until your mother handed me this book," Richard said, handing me an old brown-covered book with faded golden writing.
"What is this?" I asked. I have never heard of this book before.
"The Goddess told your mother about the prophecy the day you were conceived," Richard continued, taking a seat next to Edna.
"But why?" I asked. "I don't understand!"
Elsa and Richard looked at one another, and Richard nodded his head.
"You are created from the Goddess' essence," Elsa said, "and you are seen as her child. Your parents were loved by the goddess so much that she asked your mother to carry you for her as a gift to the werewolf world."
"If that is true, there must be a purpose for me being here! And why do I not have a wolf?" I lashed out, irritated.
"According to legend," Elsa ticked with her finger on the old book, "you are sent here to lead us, show us the way, and release us from evil."
"But we are not at war!" I argued.
"True, not a physical war you can see," she answered. "Wolf souls have stopped returning to the immortal world when they die."
"And that is what I need to fix?" I asked. "Isn't that a priest's job?"
"No," Richard shook his head, "there is an evil that is slowly gathering wolf souls and imprisoning them." Richard sighed and turned his gaze to his mate.
"I think you should tell her," Elsa said.
"Tell me what?" I asked.
"Your father and uncle are half brothers," Richard answered, "and your father's father, your grandfather, was the original Alpha of the pack. When your grandfather passed away from a rogue attack, your grandmother was heartbroken, and one night she had a one- night stand with a stranger and fell pregnant with John."
That was new and interesting.
Is that why he hates me that much?
"Does anyone know who this stranger was? Who is John's real father?" I asked, excited. This news might send me in the right direction as to why he hates me so much. The reason he is doing these things to me.
"It is believed to be the goddess's jealous and evil brother," Elsa said, taking a sip of her coffee.
"How do you know that? What gives you that idea?" I asked, shocked.
"John was born under a blood moon," Elsa answered, "and he carries the mark of darkness."
"What mark?" I asked, "I haven't seen John without a shirt or even in his wolf form."
"He has a birthmark of the moon on his right shoulder," Richard answered.
"So?" I argued, "Many wolves have markings of moons on their bodies."
"Yes, but not one that glows red under the moon!" Richard warned.
"Do you know if he has any contact with his father?" I asked, changing the subject.
"I am not sure," Elsa said, "I am blinded to see anything of his and his family's futures. I can only see you, but when it gets to John, his and his family's faces are grayed out in my visions."
"Then how do you know it is John?" I asked.
A small smile played on the edges of Elsa's lips.
"When John found out you survived the attack, he lost control, and his eyes flashed red. When he came to ask the council and elders to put you through some tests, he somehow compelled us to agree. We have had no other choice but to allow it." Images of the torture I went through flashed before my eyes, and, angry, I pulled my hands into fists.
"If he is as strong as you say, why isn't his compulsion working on me or Xavier?" I asked.
"We are not sure," they answered, "but we have noticed more and more surrounding packs have become darker and more evil in the last few years. Everything John comes into contact with, he destroys or bends to his will," Richard answered. "Things have slowed down now that you have returned," Elsa said. "The pack is happy with you; they just want to know you better. They are starting to trust you."
I released an audible breath, unsure of what I needed to do.
It was a lot to process.
I thanked them and left to get ready for work.
When I entered my home, I couldn't help but shake my head and chuckle at what I heard and saw next.
