Her Revenge Contract -
Chapter 51
Katherine's
POV
"Bloody hell," John sighed, relieved, and threw the newspaper to the side. His gaze turned toward the stairs.
I reverted my gaze to where he was looking and chuckled at the scene as I stood on the bottom step of the stairs.
"Oh, my goddess!" I internally yelled, embarrassed for John's sake.
Erika was dressed in a tight black leather skirt and a very low white button-up shirt, and I was pretty sure, should she bend down, all her goodies would be on display.
John frowned, and annoyance crossed his eyes.
"Are you going to wear that to the office?" He asked, "Where are the work clothes I sent you this morning?"
Erika turned in front of the mirror, looking at her reflection, pleased with her outfit.
"That dress code is far outdated, Daddy," she answered and pouted, looking in the mirror at her father. "The clothes are not trendy at all. All your employees wear old-fashioned clothes. I will change that soon and make sure the company has a new look, and it will make you shine!"
John looked like a deer caught in headlights, stunned at his daughter's words. He didn't expect such a reply. I chuckled at his facial expression and quickly headed toward the stairs to go to my room, but stopped to listen to John's mumbling. "If the company's financial report at the end of the year makes me shine, I will be considered a success.
The company is very strict in your area. Your new position as business manager will have you dealing with customers face-to-face. You represent the company's image. Look at what you are wearing! You can't have the customers look at your legs and not at you." John was too lazy to try and explain the policies to Erika.
"Go and change your clothes; this won't work."
Erika was not happy with what her father said and stormed out.
I rushed toward my room, took a quick shower, and got dressed.
I didn't expect to walk back into an argument.
"Customers like me like this sort of clothing!" Erika said, "Father, you are too old-fashioned. No wonder the company has not improved at all in your hands."
As soon as the words left Erika's lips, I took the last step down the stairs and started laughing.
The clothes she had changed into looked even more revealing than the first set.
"Erika, are you going out to pick up a customer?" I asked and stifled a chuckle. "Shall I take you there?"
John's face sank in an instant. He knew what I was implying.
"What are you talking about? Picking up customers? That is your job; don't pin that one on me!" Erika said as she showed off her figure with her half-bare breasts.
If it had been an ordinary man, maybe the act would have worked well. Unfortunately, for her, it was not a man standing opposite her, but me.
I sneered through gritted teeth and stalked toward the kitchen.
I grabbed the milk and poured myself a glass. Anger radiated from me.
My gaze fell on the fruit basket, and I grabbed a papaya.
"Well, cousin," I sneered, "if you want to pick up customers, you should eat more papaya and have your breast enlarged." I aimed at her hair and threw the fruit, then turned and stalked out of the room.
"Go and change your clothes!" John yelled as I exited the door, and just as I was about to get into the vehicle, I heard Erika roar out of anger, and a small smile tickled the side of my lips.
It was fairly quiet when I entered the company reception area. I guess it was because of the engagement party.
The gossip and focus had shifted to something else. Everyone was now talking about Raven Harvey.
As soon as I entered my floor, I could hear gossip behind the cubicles. Yet when I passed by, the gossip stopped and was replaced by disdain.
I didn't care. This is exactly what I wanted. I was planning to make sure the whole company felt terror when I walked into a room. I needed to ensure they saw me as intimidating as possible so that I could get John to relax his vigilance and really replace out all his
secrets.
As soon as I entered the office, the scent of coffee lingered in the air, and I found a freshly brewed cup of coffee on the table.
I smiled faintly and took my seat at my office table.
I glanced at Sarah, who was buried in her work at her office. Sarah lifted her gaze and found mine. Fear crossed her eyes, and she instantly reverted her gaze back to her work.
A smile followed my lips. This girl was really easy to manipulate.
Before long, Erika walked onto my office floor, and my gaze landed on her as she got stuck at Amanda's desk.
She handed Amanda something that looked like a pendant.
It seemed like Erika was giving out the jade vase's jewels, which she had recently broken in one of her temper tantrums.
John had taken the broken vase and made hundreds of pieces of jewelry from the remains. It seemed like Erika wanted to buy herself into people's hearts; at least she was now properly dressed in a gray pencil skirt and white button-up shirt for work. I ignored her presence and went on with my work. I might not understand financial accounts, accounts, and taxes, but I still understood basic income and expenditure.
After comparing the previous business summaries one by one, I was still worried about the prices of the business contracts.
The prices must be wrong; they were much higher than the average market price.
The other issue that I picked up was that money was transferred to a small, unknown company. The transaction on the contract showed that the price of each item was much higher than the normal market price, and after the work was completed, the small company actually traded with a private-to-public account.
In this situation, either the small companies have financial tax problems and can't give corporate accounts or they are trying to evade taxes, but either way, I was very happy with my replaceing.
I grabbed my phone, wanting to calm Xavier, but hesitated as soon as I found his number.
This wasn't the time to tell him. I needed to dig deeper before I told him what was going on.
A knock at my door startled me, and I jumped from my seat.
"Cousin," Erika stood at the door, lifting an eyebrow at my reaction, "can I come in?"
"Yes," I answered, feeling a bit embarrassed, "you may enter."
Erika entered with a small box in her hand and a smile.
The decent business clothes she was wearing made her look like a different person, and even her hair was tied up behind her head.
I got up, pretended to be friendly, and took a step toward her.
However, when I got closer, I could see she had unbuttoned the top three buttons of her shirt, revealing her chest.
"Cousin, you look very professional; the look suits you well," I complimented. "Yet," I raised an eyebrow, "the top three buttons of your shirt are unbuttoned and are showing your lacy undergarments for everyone to see." Erika was slightly angry, but then smiled and held out the box for me to take.
"Cousin, I am new to the company, and I hope you can forgive me if I don't know or understand the company policies and procedures."
I was startled by her words.
What was the catch? Erika was never so calm and nice.
I lifted my gaze and found my whole department gathered together with their gazes pinned on us.
There was something fishy about that.
"Cousin, you are very kind," I said and lifted an eyebrow, "We are not in the same department or on the same floor. Why have you come to my office? Is there something you need? I know it is not to show your kind and gentle side." "Of course," she answered, "you are absolutely right. I don't blame my parents for being so afraid of you. You are really smart."
Erika's hand stopped in mid-air, and she raised her eyebrows, holding the box in her hand.
"You won't take it?" She asked and shifted her head to the side.
I looked at the box in her hand and internally growled.
I could instantly see through her little trick, yet I knew if I didn't take the box, the employees would think I was afraid of her.
I reached for the box, and sure enough, before my hand touched the box, Erika shook and shouted and fell to the ground, crying out loud.
