Her Revenge Contract -
Chapter 52
Katherine's
POV
"Kate! How could you do this to me?" Erika yelled, lying on the ground, crying with her fingers clutching her nape.
I suddenly understood why her shirt was not buttoned up.
Sarah rushed in first, reaching out to help Erika, and gave me a hateful glare. Suddenly, a group of people poured into my office, all with the same resentful gazes.
Erika clutched her open clothes as if she had been molested.
"Kate, why did you do this to me?" She cried, "I know I was wrong. I came to apologize to you. I can bear you scolding me, but why should you humiliate me by tearing my clothes?"
"Wow! How can you be like this? It's so vicious!" Amanda yelled at me.
"Yes, people apologize at a low level. She is so vicious and usually arrogant. I didn't expect there to be such a person," Sarah sneered.
"I told you she climbed into Mr. Black's bed, and you didn't believe it," another employee commented.
Conflicts broke out everywhere, and the emotions of the masses who didn't know the truth gradually rose with Erika's tears. Erika, who was helped to her feet, hid her face in pain and inadvertently evoked a proud smile on her lips when we left my office to see John. In John's office, Erika and I sat side by side.
For some reason, John pretended to scold Erika.
"Why are you so ignorant?" He yelled, anger radiating off him, "Even if your cousin pushed you, why are you crying? It attracted so many people; do you like to make your cousin feel embarrassed?"
I sat silently and watched the interaction between father and daughter. They should be nominated for an Oscar and go into acting.
"Father, you have wronged me!" Erika yelled and wept, "I just want to apologize to my cousin. I didn't expect my cousin to resent me so deeply. How should I have known she would resent me like this?"
Erika's eyes were now bloodshot and swollen. She was wearing John's coat, and there were three sharp scratches on her neck.
Erika did an excellent job trying to frame me.
"Do you know that the board of directors is already strongly against Kate being here?" John yelled. "Now you have gotten the employees to write a joint letter to the board! You put your cousin in such a bad spotlight! You are an embarrassment!"
I internally laughed. John said that on purpose, hoping I would quit the company and have a valid excuse to transfer my vote and shares to him.
John turned and silently stared at me.
"Kate, I apologize for your cousin's disrespectful act earlier. You have known her temper since you were children. I know you don't care, but outside, the employees are upset. I think it is best you go back home and rest for a while, just until things have settled here at work. How about it?"
"Uncle, you always said that we are a family, and we need to face things together, but now you are driving me out for such a small argument?" I asked tenderly.
John was silenced by my words. Erika, however, had no patience and instantly recovered her arrogant appearance.
"Kate, there are no other people here now, let's just say it," she started.
John just stared blankly at his daughter, unsure where she was going with her argument.
"Your parents are dead, and you are the only one left of your blood. Do you think you can do whatever you want because you have the shares? I tell you, I..." "Awww!" Erika cried out.
I never saw it coming, and John was standing and panting out of anger.
"Dad, you hit me again!" Erika yelled out in shock and held her face, "You hit me again for her!"
John lost it, exploded out of anger, pointed to the door, and roared.
"It is your disease, uncle and aunt that you are talking about! Get out!" I roared, rattling the windows of his office.
Erika wanted to argue, but she suddenly came to her senses. She covered her face and ran out.
When the employees outside saw Erika's swollen face, they became even more disgusted with me.
"Kate, please leave my office," John said, more in control.
Without much hesitation, I returned to my office, and Sarah seemed surprised to see me return.
"Disappointed?" I taunted her and stepped to her desk.
I deliberately leaned over Sarah's desk, narrowed my eyes at her, and pulled my lips in a taunting smile. I pinned her gaze. She sat back with wide eyes and I could hear her swallowing. I straightened myself, still keeping my eyes pinned on her, and made sure that the whole office area could hear me.
"You all want me to fuck off so badly, that you all forget that I am the heiress of the King Group! I am the only one qualified to have you laid off! If you want to eat from this bowl of rice coming from King Group, go back and do your job! If I replace any of you gossiping about me or even Mr. Black again, I will personally go down to the personnel department and have you removed from the company!"
With that said, I turned on my heels, stalked back into my office, and slammed the door.
At the same time, my phone rang, and I rushed to see who it was.
When it turned out to be Xavier, I hesitated before I answered the call.
"Now you answer your phone," Xavier growled dangerously over the phone.
"Oh, sorry, I was out of the office," I answered a bit harshly.
"Why? What happened?" Xavier barked.
"Erika came looking for trouble and took care of it," I answered, trying to control the anger inside me.
"Well," Xavier started talking more calmly over the receiver, "as long as you are the heiress of the King Group, you will be a thorn in John's side. Even if you pretend to be a manipulative bitch and get John to relax his vigilance, the shares of the King Group have been rising since the news of our engagement. If you leave King Group now, the market value of the shares will fall. Even if John is happy with that decision, the shareholders of the King Group will certainly try and keep you from leaving..." Did I hear right?
The King Group was excelling and the shares growing in value and that without me doing much except being a bitch?
I stared blankly before me for a moment, and for a second I thought my heart stopped beating.
Xavier dropped the call soon after and my mind wandered off on how good it felt when he held me. I suddenly had the urge to get up and surprise Xavier and take him out for lunch.
I grabbed my coat and handbag and was about to call Sarah to tell her I would be out for the rest of the day when a notification popped up on my laptop screen...
