Katherine's

POV

Rose was sitting on the sofa in the living room with angry red marks down her neck when I entered the foyer.

John must have told her of the agreement with Xavier and the reason behind it.

"How the hell did your father fail us?" She sneered through gritted teeth, "He was supposed to get the directors to agree with him. Everything was planned to the finest detail; how could he be so stupid!?" "Are you okay?" Xavier asked, hearing Rose's harsh words.

I nodded my head.

We had come to collect my belongings, even though Xavier made sure I was well provided for at his place.

The only difference was that there were a few sentimental things I had forgotten the last time, and I came to collect them.

My mind raced back to earlier, when Xavier and I were standing in my office.

Greyson had already left to start with the contract preparation, yet Xavier still had a worried gaze painted on his face.

Xavier took my hand and made me sit down at the small coffee table. He could see through me, and even though I acted strong and was not worried about what my family had just done to me, it was slowly killing me from the inside. "Will you tell me what happened?" He asked and searched my gaze.

"Xavier..." I knew what he was referring to. We never spoke about the torture I endured, just that they were lying and sadistic people, and I could see the worry in his eyes. What should I tell him?

He already knows what they are capable of.

Xavier shifted his head to the side and waited patiently for me to say something. He wasn't pushing me, but he seemed to try to get a read on me.

"My family tortures me in the most gruesome ways." I sighed and got to my feet.

"I know you saw the lashes on my back the day you found me. They were the least of the torture they put me through."

Xavier kept quiet, yet I could feel his gaze pinned on my back.

"I never got my wolf, as you know, and Rose found a way to manipulate the pack's council to put me through some tests. Except the council didn't know what kind of test." I whimpered as the memories of those days flashed before my eyes.

"She drugged me by spiking my drink and threw me in the back of the car, then drove me to the mental hospital, or so she called it. I was tied up in a bed when I woke." Tears spilled over as I relived those events, telling Xavier what I had lived through.

I could still hear the lashes of the whip coming down on my back, the sound of the electric shock buzzing through my brain, feel the ice water my body was exposed to, and feel the fire that moved through my veins as she injected me with wolvesbane. I was hungry and thirsty, craving a decent, warm bath, but most of all, I was craving to be held and loved.

How could people, including your own family, put you through such things? Tie you up and try to break everything inside you.

Those were the main things that haunted my dreams and my reality.

I sighed, and Rose quickly figured out that I healed like a wolf, could hear, see, and feel like one, but could shift into one.

Xavier had pulled me to his chest, and his scent and warmth enveloped me.

"Everyone else believed she was crazy," Rose continued, bringing me back to my presence. "How could he have failed such a little task? If your father hadn't been too dawdling, Kate would have been safely locked up in the mental hospital and would have received my favorite electric shock treatment.

Erika snapped her eyeliner in half. Hearing her mother's words, she became furious at the thought that I was still capable of moving freely.

"Cousin, Aunt Rose, are you sitting here waiting for me?" I asked sweetly as I entered the living room, and two pairs of eyes flashed a trace of ruthless rage toward me.

Rose gave me a resentful look; she surely looked disappointed to see me.

Erika gritted her teeth and stared at me, grabbing the teapot from the coffee table and throwing it at me.

I had expected such things to happen when I got here.

Erika was even more angry when she saw me dodge.

I picked up the tennis ball that was lying on the floor and sent it her way. I had enough of this girl's childish acts; now I will fight back with everything I have.

Erika ducked out of the way, and the tennis ball hit the wall and bounced back, hitting her straight on the nose.

Erika screamed like she had been possessed, seeing the blood ooze out of her nose.

"Kate, I'm not done with you! I want you to see you suffer and die a painful death!" Erika roared as she covered her nose.

Rose jumped up and wanted to intervene, but Xavier caught her in time and held back, showing her that this wasn't her fight.

"Kate, your cousin has always been outspoken." Rose tried to rescue her. "Why do you even listen to what she is saying?"

I rolled my eyes at her, openly disrespecting her, and crossed my arms around my waist.

Rose called an Omega servant, and the girl rushed to bring back an ice pack to stop Erika's nose from bleeding.

When I saw Erika's red and swollen nose, I couldn't hold it back and burst out laughing. "You can join a circus with that size and color," I goaded. Erika jumped to her feet and bolted toward me.

Rose stopped her and pulled her back.

She gave me a disappointed look and then steered Erika toward her room.

"Finally, some peace and quiet," Greyson commented, and a smile reached the corners of my lips.

"I'll accompany you," Xavier said, taking my hand and dragging me toward my bedroom.

I didn't refuse; I welcomed it. Xavier was now the closest thing I could call family.

Greyson stayed behind in the foyer, keeping watch at the door to ensure none of the servants would intervene.

I collected my things and looked at the things in the house with a bit of bitterness.

Everything my parents used to own is now my uncle's and his family's, and all the photos of my family were replaced with them. Rose has burned and destroyed the ones with my parents. There was still a photo hidden in my room of my family, one I managed to save from Rose's hands.

The photo in particular was a group photo of all of my family.

I found it buried between my things, and my gaze moved over the faces of my parents.

In the old photo, the smiles of my family were simple and bright, yet John and Rose's smiles look cold and hard in the corner of the photo.

If it weren't for this photo, I wouldn't have known the evil that lived so close

My thumbs rubbed over my parents' faces in the photo, and I secretly vowed that since I have survived the torture at my family's hands, I will not rest until I replace out the truth and make them suffer! After roughly packing my bags, I headed down the stairs and waited for the SUV to arrive.

I could hear Rose talking to Erika from where I stood.

"Erika, your father called and said that you are not allowed to go look for trouble with Kate again and that you need to restrain yourself if you want to keep working at the company." Erika snorted angrily.

"You and my father are allowing Kate to sit on your heads; I will not allow her to gain control over me!"

"Erika," Rose growled, "if you can't behave..."

"Mother," Erika cut her off, "didn't you say you would talk to Father and have me return to the company? You promised that I could come back as soon as possible. When can I return?" Rose sighed, frustrated.

"Let's get your nose fixed first," she said.

I pulled my attention back to the place I used to call home, and memories flashed before my eyes.

I will miss this place only because I can still feel my parents' spirits moving around here.

I closed my eyes, remembering the happy family we once were, and let out a sad breath.

I nodded my head, agreeing with myself, as I decided to ignore all the good times and focus only on the hatred I now had for the three of them.
