Chapter 30

SELENE

I heard a snarl beside me and I jumped in fright. I slowly turned my head to the side and met a huge black wolf with white straps all over her fur, it stood just beside me with its teeth bared as it stared at me.

I took a few steps back with my hands stretched out in front of me "listen, I mean no harm. I'm not an enemy, I'm just lost I don't know where I am" I said and kept taking a few steps back till my back hit against the trunk of a tree and I hissed in pain. The wolf howled the moment I hissed in pain and before I knew it, it was coming at me fast, and there was nothing I could do to stop it so I just closed my eyes and braced myself for whatever it was going to do to me. I waited for the attack but it never came, so I slowly opened my eyes and saw the wolf lying by my feet. My mouth dropped open at the sight and I refused to move till I was sure it wasn't going to hurt me at all.

When I confirmed it wasn't going to make any move on me, I gently slid down till I was kneeling beside it. "Can I touch you?" I asked politely and the wolf just nuzzled its head close to me, I smiled at its response and placed my hand on its head to stroke the furs, but my hand froze and my eyes widened the moment I made contact with it.

I stared at the wolf in disbelief and rapidly shook my head, "it can't be, it can't be" I chanted to myself as I kept looking at the wolf, "It can't be her, she doesn't have strips!" I repeated, but I couldn't deny what I felt the moment I touched the wolf.

After my moments of denial, I finally calmed down and decided to confirm what I think "Eliana?" I called out softly and I gasped loudly at the voice that flooded my mind, I blinked away the tears that threatened to roll down my cheeks "it really is you" I said and wrapped my hands around the big wolf, and sobbed loudly "it's you!" I choked out and hugged her even tighter "I've missed you" I mumbled in between tears and sobbed even louder.

Her tender and caressing voice whispered "I've missed you too" in my head and just like before, warmth and wholeness spread through my body at her voice, I've missed her so terribly! She let me sob for a while longer before she nudged me away, "that's enough now crybaby, I'm here" she said and I let out a laugh, despite the tears that were rolling down my cheeks.

I wiped my eyes and just shook my head at her before I sat on the ground beside her while she just stretched out on the floor and placed her head on my lap "isn't this the first time we are seeing each other individually without being in the other's head?" I asked and she made a sound at the back of her throat.

"Onto more serious questions now, Eliana," I said and my face scrunched up in a frown "where did you disappear to? What is this place and why are you here?" I asked and she slowly raised her head and met my eyes, just as she was about to respond two girls that look just like me walked out and stood just before me.

My eyes widened when I saw them and I attempted to create more distance away from them but I felt stuck, I couldn't move any part of my body no matter how hard I tried, so I just sat there and stared at the girls with horror-filled eyes. Eliana looked at me pitifully before she stood up from my lap and walked to the girls, while I just stared at her in surprise but that didn't even compare to the shock and betrayal I felt when she shifted from a wolf to a girl that looks just like me. My eyes widened and my mouth dropped open at the sight before me, I couldn't bring myself to understand what just happened or what even is happening "what the f**k is going on Eliana!?" I yelled and she made to answer me but one of the other girls held her back and shook her head.

"Let me answer that instead," she said and Eliana nodded. The girl then turned to me and smiled at me, "Hello, Selene" she greeted and took a few steps close to me.

"Do not be scared, we are not here to hurt you." She said but that didn't stop me from feeling afraid. "We are parts of you that you've failed to accept, Eliana didn't vanish or go anywhere, she's just stuck at the deepest part of your heart where all parts of you that you've failed to accept are buried" she explained but my face just scrunched up in confusion.

"What on Earth are you saying? Parts of me? Rejected? You aren't making any sense" I said and looked at the girl like she just escaped from the psychiatric hospital, but she just smiled at me.

"I understand your confusion, Selene, but this is all we can tell you. You have to replace out who you are, where your roots lie and your potential, only then would you be able to make sense out of all this and truly accept us" she stated and walked back to where she was previously standing "but until then, we would be here waiting for you." "No! No! Don't go, I didn't reject Eliana, she's been with me since forever, you can't just take her away! Please, let her be with me still" I pleaded but they just looked at me with a sad look on their faces.

"We can't do that Selene. We come as one, and it hurts just as much that we can't be with you, so please hurry up and figure it out" the other girl said.

"Then please help me figure it out, you all seem to know something that I don't, help me out," I asked but they shook their head.

"We can't," Elaina said and I looked at her in disbelief "it isn't something we can just help you figure out, this is your battle Selene," she said and at that moment, I felt truly hopeless and alone. "We'll see you again," they said at the same and before I could get another word in, they disappeared into thin air and just as they disappeared a painful scream rippled out of my throat.

I woke up with a gasp and a sweat-filled face, "are you okay?" I heard someone ask and I turned to see Drystan standing by the bed with worried lines all over his face as he stared at me

I didn't know how to answer or what to say, so I just shook my head. He hopped into the bed and pulled me into his arms "what happened? Nightmare?" He asked and I bobbed my head "tell me about it" "Eliana..." I mumbled "I saw Eliana" I repeated

"Tell me everything" he ordered in a soft voice and just like that, I told him all I dreamt about within the next few minutes. "I see..." He said after I had told him all about my dream.

I pulled my head away from his chest and stared at him, "what do you think?" I asked and he shot me a small smile.

"Well, I think we should get more answers from your parents before anything else. They are the only ones that we can turn to for now" he said and I nodded in agreement.

"I think so too" I agreed and moved away from him, "I'll go and freshen up then we can go downstairs together," I said and stood up from the bed.

"Alright, I'll be here waiting," he said and I disappeared into the bathroom, and quickly freshened up. I dressed up in a pair of black joggers with a white singlet and then came out to meet him, "you look good" he complimented me the moment he saw me and I smiled brightly at him. "Thank you. Now let's go" I said and dragged him up from the bed.

We got to the dining and met my 'parents' seated there, we stiffly exchanged greetings before Drystan and I took our seats. Soon enough breakfast was served and everyone dug in. The dining area was very quiet, unlike the other days where I would chat with my parents any time we were together. It just felt like there was nothing to discuss even tho there were tons of things to talk about.

"Mum, Dad, I have a question," I said, breaking the uncomfortable and awkward silence.

They both exchanged glances and then turned towards me "what is it, Princess?" My dad asked.

I dropped my cutleries and sat upright, "well, I doubt this is the right time to ask this but with the situation, we're in, I don't think there's a right or a wrong time for questions" I paused and stared at them before I continued, "I want to know everything about the day you both found me and most importantly, why you chose to tell me about all this now"
