She turned to him, looking confused, as she tried to read his expression but failed miserably. “I am not your peace. I am your chaos. The awful choice you should never have made.”

“That’s what you say.”

“It’s the truth.”

He took a bold step toward her, “The truth is for everyday in the past seven years I’ve woken up with voices in my head driving me insane, for six years I’ve put up a wall in my mind to block the voices out and those walls crashed every time I shifted. I’ve searched for the cure of my misery through magic and pushing further boundaries, but found no solution. Not until I met you, and that’s the truth.”

“I don’t understand.”

“You have the ability to silent all the voices in my head.”

He had spoken about voices in his head for the longest of time, but she never placed a keen mind on it. She assumed it was the type of voice everyone, including herself, had in their head, but he seems to mean a different one. “What voices?” her brows narrowed at him.

“The ones I set loose when I pushed a boundary I shouldn’t have. Mother told me magic was a powerful tool and should always be wielded with great caution, but after Dyan’s death, I began to push the boundaries of my powers, sometimes harming my body. I had lost two people I cared about the most in the world and I didn’t want a repeat of it ever again. So I treaded into the realm of the lost souls, trying to learn the ritual of bringing back the dead, and I cracked open the walls that shielded imagination from madness. Without this wall, there was not much difference between reality and false perceptions. And these false perceptions gave room to voices, most of which weren’t mine. I set the voices loose and I had no control over them. It was a nightmare, and I thought I’d die in the first two days, but I didn’t.”

Her eyes were wide as she stared at him, surprised by the truth which he now told her.

“I wanted to silence the voices and pushed further boundaries, but that didn’t stop them, and I ended up scarring my body instead. Of course, my ability could go so far in healing the self-inflicted damages and the scars that stayed on my body. I knew if I kept trying, I would lose it all and I stopped. I had lived with that as the perks of being a wizard. As much as I could channel my powers and control the times and the fate of those around me, the voices in my head sought to control me.”

“You pushed the wrong boundary.”

He nodded. “I pushed many wrong boundaries, and those are the scars on my skin. For every boundary I pushed, I ripped open a flesh that healed up and left a scar on my body, so I did my best to cover them up with ink and live as normal as I could.”

“That’s why you wouldn’t let me touch you when we first met.”

He bit his lips, and nodded, “Yes, and it’s one reason I don’t undress before many people. The king believed I had a fear of fountains, but it was just my way of keeping my scars hidden. You were the first maiden who didn’t freak out or run after seeing my ink. I liked that. You became the first maiden who saw me with no barrier, the first to touch all parts of me.”

He took another step and came to stand before her. “You affected me as a mate would, and this made me doubt my judgment. It didn’t start now. It started the first day I set my eyes on you. I knew I wanted you. There was something there. I was young and didn’t know better and when I met you again years later, the feelings were still there, stronger than ever, but I felt unsure about it. I still thought about you once in a while, but I realized you would be the death of me, just like Dyan, and so I made a move to get you out of my system. You were not good for me and I knew it, but when I saw you again in the north where it all started, I felt the same way I felt years ago.”

He took her hands into his cold ones. “I didn’t know if you knew what you were doing. The first time I met you over twelve years ago, I lost my abilities and my magic. I didn’t understand it then or why, but it happened over seven years ago when I met you again. I knew it was you and it had something to do with you, but I didn’t know what it was and I still don’t, but whatever it is, it works.”

She shook her head. “I don’t know how I do it, but I’ve been able to stop people from using their magic and powers around me without even trying. I’ve been called a witch because of it.”

He scoffed, and she raised a brow at him. “People fear what they don’t know and they label it. You’re not a witch, if anything, you’re the exact opposite of magic you have been naturally wired to repel all forms of magic. Perhaps you took that from your father or mother.”

“I wouldn’t know. I never met them.”

“I know, but now you know everything about me. I came to Lurds because I had to replace you. I was incomplete without you.” A few months ago, the king had businesses with the Lords of the region and assigned Edward the responsibility of being his voice with them. He took advantage of that offer and spent more time with her, the woman that had imprinted herself into his mind and brain. The one whom he couldn’t go a day without thinking about.

That was another reason he stuck around in Lurds when he first came to the parlour. He loved her and wanted her, but her magic, or lack of it, which silenced the voices, I was a bonus.”

He stroked her face, and she leaned into his touch. “I know you believe leaving is the best option, but it isn’t.”

A tear ran down her face. “I don’t know what is right anymore.”

Hearing his confession with no holdbacks felt surreal, and it scared her. He was baring himself to her, revealing his vulnerable secrets to her with hopes she would not use them against him. It made her feel powerful, yet doubt lingered in her mind.

“I do,” he said, closing the space between them and taking her lips between his.

Her body clung to him as one, and he led them into the bedroom. He was her strength and weakness, and she gave him the control he needed over her mind and soul.

“Mark me.” she heard him mumble through her hazy thought while he rode her closer towards ecstasy. Her lashes fluttered to replace his gaze on her. “Mark me, Kailani,” he repeated.

“Edward,” she called, her eyes wide and her breath coming in sharp.

“I am already yours, my love. I have always been yours. Mark me and make it complete. This is what I want.”

“You sure about this, Edward?”

Marking him would mean sealing his fate to hers not only lovers, but as mates as well. It would be a step they would never take back. It would be the union of his souls to hers, and he wanted that. She would also lose her omega mark and become beta, just like him.

She had always been an omega and for so long; she believed she would always be one, but that would change today.

He flipped them around in bed, so she sat on top. “Yes, my love, I have wanted nothing more.”

She bit her lips and nodded. She kissed him on the lips. Her lips moved from his mouth to his jaw to k**s and lick and suck down his neck and then to where his neck and his shoulder met, and she dug her fangs into him. She tasted his b***d in her mouth and heard him m**n aloud. She pulled back, gasping for air as he held her waist and thrust in and out of her in search of his release. It came soon after and his breath grew laboured as he descended from the height. His head dropped back on the pillow and she leaned in bed and kissed him again. And this simple act had done something more to their souls. Her eyes locked on his and her hand stayed on his chest.

“Thank you,” she said. He glanced at her with a narrowed gaze, and she continued, “For trusting me.”

His hand lifted to her face and his thumb rubbed her swollen lips. “You’re welcome.”
