Kailani got down from her carriage and approached the parlour when she noticed Jane standing at the entrance with a scroll in her hand and a worried look on her face. Her eyes narrowed at her as she approached, but Jane didn’t notice her presence yet and kept looking around instead.

She got to her and placed a hand on her shoulder, making her jump on her stand. She twirled around and found Kailani, and the fear faded away.

Ever since Kailani took a step back from the parlour, she had stopped coming as early as she used to. She took a step back because Edward had asked for her hand and when she said yes; he moved to propose a wedding ceremony and that had taken her time and focus.

They were sceptical about the venue because they wanted to avoid the alpha of alphas whom Edward refused to invite, but also wanted the king’s presence.

Kailani voiced her insecurities about the capital and so they decided to have a small wedding in Lurds. She was happy with the turnout of things, but still, she feared for her life and safety. She had gone against the wishes of Robb Ainsworth for his son. That was enough to make her afraid, but Edward convinced her his father wouldn’t harm her. It wasn’t his style. She hoped for his sake he wasn’t wrong. Picking a fight with the alpha of alphas was like picking a fight with the moon goddess herself. That’s already a lost battle.

If they were to marry in Lurds, the king might not make it and his presence, as well as that of the Queen, was necessary.

She wished things had happened differently. She wished Robb Ainsworth liked her, that her past wasn’t so bad. That she was born into a noble home, she will never stop wishing for that. She saw how happy Edward was with her and she felt complete and happy with him too and wished his father would see and realise she wasn’t the villain in this story.

In the last few weeks, Kailani had taken a step back from the parlour and she had considered taking a final bow from the parlour. She hadn’t disclosed her plans to Jane yet; she hoped to do it soon. The only thing she told her was her need for a break, which Jane agreed to.

Jane then started coming earlier than before and taking positions Kailani had left vacant. She wanted to watch from the corner and that has been what she did and so far she had had no cause for alarm yet.

“What’s wrong?” she asked, now becoming just as worried as Jane was.

“We found this lying at the entrance when we came,” Jane said, handing her the large scroll in her hand.

She collected it and spread it open to see, “Whore house ready yourself” written on it with black ink and a thick brush.

Her heart tightened in her chest, “Did the watchmen see who did this?” she asked and her brows furrowed.

Jane shook her head. “They said they saw nothing and no one.”

“I will meet with the security enforcement in Lurds and have then looked into it. Did anyone else see this?”

Jane shook her head. “Romeo and I were the first to arrive, and we took it down. He’s the only other person to see it.”

“Very well, we will go about the day as if nothing happened. We will not give them the upper hand and submit. That’s not how we do things.” She touched Jane’s shoulder. “Are you okay, though?”

“Yes,” she answered with a quick nod.

“Good.”

“What’s wrong?” Edward asked as he placed her legs on his lap after climbing into bed, but she didn’t acknowledge his presence.

He had returned from the Lanes over an hour ago and, unlike usual; she didn’t welcome him in the living area and when he came into the bedroom to meet her; she remained lost in her thoughts.

She didn’t even know when he climbed into the bed, not until he took her leg into his hands.

She snapped out of her thought and a smile came to her face. She wanted to tell him the parlour had received a threat letter, but she didn’t want to bother him. He had been cracking his head with the plans for their wedding. Despite them wanting something small, Edward wanted it to be a memorable one for both of them. Besides, she had the matter at the parlour under control.

“Nothing. Sometimes I like to sit and reminisce on the past and everything,” she answered, and it wasn’t a lie, but neither was it the complete truth.

“How’s reminiscing going then?” he asked, squeezing down on her feet now in his hands.

She smiled, “Good. Tell me how your visit to the Lanes went.” she said.

He exhaled. “Not so bad. Oliver needed my help, and I had to give it. I am sorry it took all day.”

“It’s fine, how are he and Rue? I haven’t seen or written them in a while.”

“The young couple are good. They already made plans to buy a ranch in the region and move in there. I helped him plan out the house all day.”

“Sounds like a wise investment.”

“It is, he learns from me.” he let out a cocky smirk.

“And you are a man full of wisdom.” She continued fueling his ego.

“I do not want to brag.”

She rolled her eyes. “Then let me brag for you.” She reached out and pulled him closer with the collar of his shirt, allowing him to settle between her legs before wrapping them around him.

She kissed his cheeks, “You’re a wise prince, and you make your decisions through long and processed thinking. You take your time to analyze because you hope for only the best.” She kissed his lips.

He pulled away from the k**s to ask, “How did the day go at the parlour?”

She thought about the threat they received in the morning, but she remained quiet, holding onto his face to keep herself steady.

“Nothing, just the usual, extensive work.” She lied.

He didn’t believe her. “You sure?”

She bit her lips and nodded. “I am. Now k**s me.”
