Chapter 15
Asgeir POV
I tried my best to smile, as I walked, along the pathway decorated with rose petals that were scattered in a straight line.
It was the very first time in our kingdom, that a wedding was taking place outside in our huge palace garden, but my parents agreed because I was someone that loved nature and I loved more than anything, for my wedding to take place there.
Despite the sudden cloudiness and that it was slightly dark outside even though it was only afternoon, my parents still agreed saying it was my day and that they'd agree to it.
As I walked along the pathway, everyone began singing the traditional wedding song throwing rose petals in front of me, and smiled while some of the elders even cried. I forced a smile onto my face as I walked, hoping that no one could see the dread that was bubbling inside me.
God, I really didn't want to be here.
I looked ahead and saw Gregor, standing at the end of the pathway, dressed in his warrior clothes, with his sword dangling at his side. He looked at me and smiled while I walked.
It honestly felt like the longest walk of my life, but I was grateful for it because it gave me a few seconds to sort out my emotions, and by the time I had reached the end of the pathway, I let out a sigh and just gave in.
This was officially the point where I had to turn everything off and not feel anything, because the moment I did, all I would feel was depression and sadness.
This was finally it.
I took Gregor's outstretched hand and stepped up onto the platform, praying that I did not trip and fall, with how long this garment was, and tried to stand up straight.
I looked to my side and saw my parents and brothers sitting on their thrones and smiling at me. I smiled back and derived some strength from their warm smiles and looked at the elder in front of us.
He began reciting a small couplet from the poems my forefather used to recite for his beloved while he used to hold him close to him.
Philosophers who studied the history of our kingdom, compiled all of his couplets in a book and it soon became a custom to recite them during our wedding ceremonies. As a show of the love our forefather had for the man that gave him the pinnacle of happiness.
After he finished the couplet, he recited the traditional vow, with us repeating after him, and once we had completed the vow, he gestured for us to raise our hands.
He took mine and placed it beneath Gregors, while he recited the sacred the vow. A verse that bound not only two bodies together, but two souls. It was such a binding, that could not be broken, except with death.Such a vow that, although one may be intimate with numerous people, the heart will always yearn for the one the bond was made with.
I closed my eyes while he recited it, and felt my tears stain my cheeks.
I was officially going to bound to him for the rest of my life, and although I knew it was going to happen sooner or later, I couldn't help the emotions that overcame me in this moment, when it all became a reality.
After the Elder had completed the verse, he stepped back and nodded at Gregor.
Gregor turned me to face him and placed his hand on the side of my face. The only thing left to seal the bond, was a kiss. And with that we would be bonded. Body and Soul.
He leaned in and I closed my eyes, not at all, wanting to see his face when he kissed me.
I waited for him to kiss me and get it over with, but I opened my eyes when I felt a fierce wind blow over us, blowing out the candles that were lit around the grounds to give off some light.
Now that the candles were blown out, the only light that shone, was the slight rays of the sun, beneath the clouds, still making it quite dark.
Everyone looked around wondering just where that fierce wind had come from, even Gregor who still had his hand on the side of my face, looked around with his eyes narrowed, also trying to replace the source.
I have no idea why, but that voice in my head, told me to look up, and I did. It was just for a brief moment, but I could see something in the distance, through the thick clouds. I squinted my eyes, trying to get a clear image, when a loud roar, reverberated across the land and almost everyone froze in their places.
I could feel my heart beating rapidly in my chest as I felt a feeling of fear break out through me. I looked once more at the sky and felt as though my life force was being drained slowly, as a humongous dragon flew across the sky, spitting out a trail of fire in the process, causing it to burn and destroy everything it touched.
Gregor pushed me away and drew out his sword, following the beast with his eyes as it flew across the sky and continued to burn everything.
I felt so frozen in my place, I couldn't even think. All I could do was stare above that that beast. I couldn't even hear the shouts of my brothers for me, and all I could see was how everything around me lit up in flames.
I narrowed my eyes, when I saw where the dragon was spitting out his flames. He seemed to be burning the empty spaces on the land that was not occupied by anyone. The seats where everyone sat, was not touched by the fire and I couldn't help but wonder..
Did he not want to hurt anyone?
