Chapter 16
Asgeir POV
I narrowed my eyes, when I saw where the dragon was spitting out his flames. He seemed to be burning the empty spaces on the land that was not occupied by anyone. The seats where everyone sat, was not touched by the fire and I couldn't help but wonder..
Did he not want to hurt anyone?
I couldn't think any further when I felt someone pull me away, and I looked into Arkyn's eyes.
"You need to get somewhere safe. We'll replace you when everything is over." Arkyn said and nodded to one of the guards who came towards us.
The guard took hold of my arm and was about to lead me away when I yanked my arm out of his grasp and looked at Arkyn.
"I'm not a kid anymore. I want to fight with you like everyone else." I said.
"I understand that, but you haven't trained like the rest of us, you're going to get hurt. Now just go and stay safe till we kill it." He said and nodded at the guard who began dragging me away, despite my kicking and screaming at Arkyn.
"I thought you said you killed every one of them." I heard him yell at Gregor, who was adjusting a spear in his hands and aiming it at the flying dragon.
"I did. I'm just as baffled as you are. We checked the palace over a hundred times, there were no more dragons left alive." He yelled back at Arkyn.
While they argued with one another, a loud thud was heard, making the ground shake and quake. We all turned our heads and saw that the dragon had landed on the ground and roared so loudly, it was almost deafening, and we had to actually hold our hands against our ears in order to block our some of the noise.
And one by one, Gregor's men and my brothers rushed forward with their swords aiming at the beast.
I silently prayed that my brothers would be okay, and that they'd be safe.
I watched as they swung their swords against the dragon's flesh, but it was like their swords were hitting a boulder. It did absolutely nothing to the dragon, not even a scratch.
I looked at the shocked look on their faces, even Gregor's, and I gathered that was not supposed to happen, and just like that, the dragon began pushing the soldiers out of his way, while his eyes scanned everyone around him, almost like he was looking for something.. or someone.
"Get the torches!" Gergor yelled, and a few soldiers begand running off to get them.
"Light them up with the dragon's flames. Our swords won't hurt him, but his own flames could." Gregor said as he lit up a torch with the dragon's flames and threw it at him, aiming for his back and when the torch hit his back, the dragon began screaming in agony and I could hear the shouts among the men, and one by one they all began lighting up the torches and throwing them at the dragon.
I watched as he squirmed and moved out of the way of the torches, and flapped his wings so fiercely, that he wiped out all the flames and roared loudly.
He was definitely angry now.
He roared loudly as he flapped his wings, taking out all the flames, while his eyes continued to scan everyone until they settled on..
Me.
I gasped out loud when I saw the dragon looking directly at me. It was as though those fiery eyes of his, was looking directly into my soul. I could feel my breaths coming out in an uneven manner, as I visibly shook and trembled.
He pushed aside a few more soldiers as he made his way towards where I stood, and with each step that he took, I could feel myself shaking even more, till I was so afraid, I wished that I could have just died then and there instead of being chewed to death by a dragon.
I could the shouts of my brothers and parents, telling me to run or get out of the way, but I couldn't do that. As much as I wanted to run, I felt so frozen in my place that all I could was stand there and watch the best come towards me.
I contemplated on taking something sharp and just stabbing myself in the stomach with it, but decided against it when I saw the look in my brothers' eyes as they began running towards me.
I had no choice but to just stand there and look at the huge dragon in front of me. I watched as he slowly lowered his head, although I still had to look up.
Once his head was lowered, he straight into my eyes with those fiery ones and I gasped for a second time when I felt something wash over me. I couldn't even begin to describe what it felt like, because I had never felt it before, nor had I ever read about it either.
It felt like I was being filled from the inside. Like every void inside my mind and soul was being filled, till I no longer felt empty. I could feel some kind of warmth spread throughout my body, just by looking into it's eyes. It felt like I was in some kind of a trance.
"Stand down."
I heard and I widened my eyes, not believing what I was hearing.
"What?" I whispered looking up into the eyes of the dragon as he looked back into mine.
" Tell them to stand down and no one else will get hurt."
I looked at him for a second longer before I ran forward, around him and stood in front of him, blocking my brothers and Gregor from attacking him. They stopped and looked at my like I had just gone insane.
"What the hell are you doing! Move now!" Gregor yelled at me, probably seeing as how the dragon was now sitting down, and did not look like he was going to attack anyone. Knowing Gregor, he probably wanted to take this opportunity to kill him.
"He says no one will get hurt if you stand down now." I said looking at them and seeing the look of pure confusion that crossed their faces.
"How can you even say that! Do you hear how insane you sound! Move out of the way so we can kill it!" Gregor screamed at me, but I continued to stand in the way, and looked right at him.
"He says he won't hurt anyone and I believe him." I said and watching the different shades of anger flash across his face as he looked back at me.
I was almost certain, that if it wasn't for the numerous people that were watching the whole scene, he would have most likely slapped me across the face right now.
"And how can you be so sure." He asked. I looked at him then turned my head back to look into those fiery eyes once more before I looked back at Gregor and said.
"Because he told me he wouldn't and I trust him."
