Innocent Little Runt -
Chapter 37
Xavier’s POV
I looked over all of the paperwork that I was doing and sighed. Some of the surrounding packs have been sending complaints about the rogues and asking for help. They are getting way too far out of control and the two rogues, experiments, whatever they are are not being helpful anymore. Neither of them will give out where Malum is hiding. We need to replace that bastard and kill him and hopefully after he is gone the rogues will calm down.
I hear the door open and Celeste’s intoxicating scent reaches my nose. I look up and smile at her. In her hands she has two plates of food. I smile at her and she walks up to my desk placing the food on my desk.
“Lesa told me to bring some food up here so I thought I’d join you for lunch,” she says and a blush makes its way up her neck. She moves to stand in front of me and I pull her onto my lap, making a squeal leave her lips.
“Thank you little one.” I keep her on my lap, my wolf purring in content at her close proximity. We ate in silence but every now and then Celeste would sigh happily and as much as I would like to think it is because of me I know it is because of her love for food. I could lock her up in a pantry and she wouldn’t even be mad at me. The people who go grocery shopping would be. They would have to buy more of everything.
I push the plate of food away when I finish and Celeste stacks hers on top of mine. I put my hands on her waist and lean down to her neck. I trail light k****s up and down her neck Celeste leans back into my chest and lets out a breathy m**n. That’s when I stop because my wolf was yelling at me to mark her. I want to mark her also, but she isn’t ready.
Celeste turns beet red and I chuckle. I k**s her temple and she turns around in my lap. She looks me directly in the eyes, her brown eyes completely captivating me. I lean forward and press my lips to hers softly. She k****s me back, her arms wrapping around my neck. I pull away and k**s her forehead.
“Let’s go do something little one. How does that sound?” She nodded and got off of my lap. I grabbed the plates and got up, walking to the kitchen with Celeste right behind me. I put the plates down in the kitchen and spun around to wrap my arms around Celeste. She smiled at me and I kissed the tip of her nose.
She blushed and pushed me away from her playfully. “Let’s go,” I said holding my hand out for her. She entwined our fingers and I smiled. I walked out of the pack house, pulling Celeste closer to me as we passed by a few pack members. My wolf was on edge with those two rogues being here, even with the both of them locked away.
“Where are we going?” I looked down at her and smiled.
“I promised that I would take you back there.” She squealed in excitement and wrapped her arms around my waist while still walking. I chuckled and turned her back around so she wouldn’t trip.
We walked for a while Celeste continuously playing with my fingers. Eventually, we made it to my mother’s clearing, the smile on Celeste’s lips widening. She truly did love this place. Mother did too. She always talked about how she wanted a small cottage out here, but Father said it was too close to the edge of the border. She was so upset, but everyday my father would come here and pick a flower for her. It made her happy enough to forget about actually wanting the cottage.
Celeste pulled me to the middle of the clearing and sat down, me following after her. She rested her head on my shoulder and took a deep breath in.
“Xavier,” she whispered. She seemed so calm here. It was a nice change to see. So much has been happening lately that I think it is important for her to be able to be normal every once and awhile.
“Yes, little one?” She looked up to me with half lidded eyes. She was content with everything right now.
“What is your favorite memory?” I smiled at her and thought for a minute. My favorite memory? “One from your childhood.” My favorite childhood memory?
“My favorite childhood memory would have to be when I went to another pack in Europe. There was a world wide conference going on for every Alpha. My father took me with him since I was next in line. At the time the Alpha king lived there in a huge mansion. I was young at the time so I spent almost the entire trip running around and replaceing hiding places. I got caught one day by the Alpha king. He was the scariest man I have ever met. I am still surprised that I never peed my pants,” I chuckled and so did Celeste.
“I expected him to yell at me. Maybe throw me in the cellars. Do you know what he did? He smiled at me. For the rest of the trip he let me stay by his side. He would show me his work. When the trip ended he offered for me to stay. Of course I said no. I couldn’t abandon my family. Lesa was going to be born soon and I couldn’t wait to have a little sibling. So I went home of course. He still offers for me to come back, take over for him one day as the Alpha King.” Celeste gasped and I smiled.
“Would you? Ever take over for him?” I shook my head.
“This is my pack and I love it very much. I would maybe take over as a last resort or if he dies or something happened to this pack. I go back every now and then to visit him. He is like a second father to me. Maybe next time that I go you can come along.” She smiled and nodded at me.
“What about you? I told you my favorite childhood memory so I think it’s only fair that you tell me yours.” She smiled a little and looked down in concentration.
“Awhile, before the rogues attacked our pack, my dad took me took my mom and I on a trip. My dad always had this thought that every wolf should experience the little things that humans love so much. He rented an RV and we drove all the way to California. San Diego was beautiful. We went to the beach and my parents taught me how to swim.” Her eyes shone happily. She was so happy that I almost thought she was a different person for a second. It’s beautiful, seeing her this happy.
“There was this huge wave at one point. It crashed over us and a bunch of salt water went into my mouth,” she chuckled. “It was disgusting. We made sandcastles and my father watched as my mother and I gathered sea shells. It was the last really happy thing that we did before my father died.” Despite her last sentence, she kept a smile on her face.
I took her chin in between my fingers and tilted her head up. She looked up at me, her beautiful innocent eyes shining. I leaned forward and pressed my lips to hers. I could feel her eyelashes against my cheeks. She moved her hands to go around my neck, one of her hands weaving through the hair on the nape of my neck. I pulled away and she gasped for breath, a blush rising up her neck.
Out of the corner of my eye I saw movement. Apparently Celeste saw it to because she glanced out at the trees. There were a few people running. I almost tensed up but I tried to stay calm for Celeste.
“Who are they Xavier?” Her hand moved to grip my shirt in fear.
“It’s just the patrol,” I lied. “Don’t worry, but we should be heading back now.” She nodded but didn’t let go of my shirt. I know that she could sense that something was wrong, I could too. I pulled her up and kept her close to me.
“Xavier,” she whispered. “Something’s wrong. I can feel it.”
“I know little one.” I turned to her and put my hands on her shoulders. “You are going to be fine though. As soon as we are home I want you to go to Zay’s office and stay with her.” She shook her head as she looked at me.
“What’s happening Xavier.” She kept looking around, expecting someone to pop out at us anytime soon.
“I don’t know little one.” I glanced around. I could see them off in the distance, starting to circle the pack. “Do you think you can run all the way back to the pack house?”
She nodded but, with a worried voice, said,”You are coming with me right?”
“Of course I am. Let’s go.” I took her hand in mine and we started to run back to the pack house. As we got closer I could smell them. The rogues. They were getting closer. We were almost there when Celeste started to stumble. I quickly turned to pick her up in my arms, her breathing heavy with exhaustion. I ran into the pack house going to Zay’s office.
“Xavier? What’s wrong with Celeste?” I shook my head and set her down on the bed that was in there.
“She will be fine in a minute. Zay when I leave here I want you to lock the door and set up the safety measures. Keep Celeste near you until I mind link you.” She nodded, a worried look in her eyes.
I mind linked the entire pack, Anyone who can’t fight get in the safety bunkers now!
“Xavier?” I looked over at Zay. She looked worried out of her mind. Kaleshia soon busted through the doors, coming to Zay’s side. Zay must have mind linked her. All species can mind link, especially between mates. “What’s happening.”
I went over to Celeste. She was starting to get her energy back and she opened her eyes. I smiled and kissed her head, bringing her to me so I could hold her tightly. I glanced back at Zay and answered her question.
“The rogues are attacking.”
