It’s Love That Blinds Him – Chapter 20
“Sir, he is in the Middle East. But he hasn’t made any decisions yet! » Kaleb, on the other end of the line, spoke with the utmost politeness.
“Have Byron keep an eye on him and remind Enoch to be careful,” Malcolm ordered with an icy tone. After hanging up the phone, the man returned to the room.
Lucia observed him and detected absolutely no emotion on his face. However, she could vaguely sense that danger was hovering over Malcolm’s head. She started to pout and then looked away.
“My wildcat, there is nothing in the world that I cannot acquire, and you are no exception. When my interest is piqued, no one can escape my clutches. » Malcolm began to touch Lucia’s pretty face, moving from her eyebrows to her eyes then to her nose and finally her mouth.
The man’s words sounded more like a warning to the young woman, at the same time, it seemed that Malcolm was implying that Lucia belonged to him. Not knowing how to react to this statement, the young woman just looked at the man while trying to remain calm.
She was finally about to speak when the man lifted her chin to k**s her. This k**s had no warmth and in no way proved the man’s affection for the young woman. Malcolm nibbled Lucia’s lips from time to time, which caused the young woman a most unpleasant sensation. She was stunned. She was so furious that she wanted to return the favor and bite his lips as well. The two behaved like two beasts in battle and neither wanted to admit defeat.
But Lucia didn’t even have time to retaliate when Malcolm had just released his hold on her. But again, just as she was about to speak, the man covered her mouth and started kissing her again. Malcolm’s unique scent completely enveloped Lucia.
After a while, the man left the young woman alone. She was now sweating. It was then that the young woman realized that the needle connected to her IV was crooked and that drops of b***d were starting to flow. While readjusting the needle by herself, she was furious with the man and looked at him with the deepest resentment.
“This man definitely always manages to arouse my desires, no matter the time or place! »
Lucia found herself stuck in the hospital for several days because she refused to go home with Malcolm. “It would have been easier to come to the hospital every day to have the dressing changed. Why bother putting up with this smell of disinfectant permeating the hospital when I’m not even a seriously disabled patient? »
During his stay, Malcolm had never stopped visiting him. It seemed like he had nothing else to do. She hadn’t even had time to think of a plan to escape the establishment.
Luck was really against her, she told herself. While Malcolm had been away, Lucia had finally taken the opportunity to change and secretly leave the hospital. But as she stood in the doorway, she suddenly found herself face to face with Bob, Malcolm’s assistant. The man stood there, almost at attention. Suddenly his face became more expressive as he urged the young woman to return to the room.
Lucia could see that Bob was about to burst out laughing but he was doing everything he could to hold back.
The young woman, for her part, just wanted to cry. In the end, she couldn’t go anywhere. When she left the room to walk down the hallway, she was followed by Malcolm’s bodyguard. ” What’s his name? Kaleb? His complexion is so dark that I can’t even see him in the dark! »
When she realized that Malcolm and his bodyguard were missing, she told herself that this was her only chance to escape. But to her dismay, she now found herself in the presence of Malcolm’s assistant. The man used to manage the affairs of the Evans Group. But now he was working part-time as a doorman.
” Oh my God. So am I that popular? », the young woman swore silently.
She had already been in the hospital for three days. And the bandage on his arm had already been removed. Even the doctor had confirmed that she could leave the hospital if she returned regularly to have the wound disinfected and the dressing changed. But Malcolm, like a true tyrant, kept the young woman confined to the hospital. And everywhere she looked, she saw either Bob or Kaleb.
Lucia was overcome with anger and gritted her teeth. Tired of this situation, she decided to turn on the TV and watch the news.
“Mina Gomez, the daughter of the former CEO of Gomez Properties, deliberately attempted to murder a citizen downtown three days ago. She was taken into custody and then taken back to the police station. According to the psychiatric examination carried out on her, the young woman suffered from schizophrenia. She has since been transferred to Pine Mountain Psychiatric Hospital for treatment. According to hospital staff, his mental state had been unstable for a long time. The cause of his illness had not yet been identified and further investigation must be conducted.
Although the Evans Group acquired Gomez Properties, the Gomez family still had ownership of several overseas investment projects. Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse overnight when foreign investors accused the family of malicious fraud. Now hundreds of millions in debt, the Gomez family had been forced to leave their mansion. And on top of that, she was being sued in court. If irrefutable evidence was found, several members of the Gomez family could face prison…”
During the broadcast of this scandal, the scene of reenactment of the assassination as well as the one where we see Mina being taken to the police station had been published. Other videos also showed Malcolm boarding the ambulance holding the unconscious Lucia while journalists swarmed around the vehicle.
“Mina must have received a false diagnosis. Her change in status may have been too much to bear, but it is unlikely that she is schizophrenic. So why had Malcolm done this? Why had he suddenly caused harm to the entire Gomez family? », thought Lucia.
“Miss Garcia, Mr. Evans rarely cares about anyone as much as he cares about you,” Bob added.
Lucia looked at Bob before turning off the TV. His raised eyebrows showed his surprise. She continued to look at the assistant. He rarely spoke. Usually, he just watched the young woman so she didn’t escape. Lucia remained silent and waited for Bob to tell her more.
“Our CEO never cared about dating women. He just didn’t want to waste his time. But as soon as Mina tried to kill you, he asked me to send her to a mental hospital and go after the other members of the Gomez family right away. All this to ensure your safety. You have to be really, really worried to act like that. He just doesn’t want anything to happen to you,” Bob said slowly.
Lucia’s bright eyes suddenly darkened. The young woman got up and walked towards the window. She gazed at the blue sky and white clouds in silence. It was undeniable that Bob’s words had moved her a little.
“Now that the risk has been passed, Miss Garcia, you can leave the hospital. Our CEO will personally take you home later. » Bob watched Mina’s reaction. He had accomplished everything Malcolm had asked of him and had now completed his mission. Then he left the room.
Chaotic thoughts and strange ideas ran through Lucia’s mind. His thoughts were in complete disarray. Bob had been ordered to complete departure formalities for the young woman. The attending physician came to change the dressing one last time. He then asked Lucia to come every three days to change him. He also reminded her not to wet the wound.
Lucia quickly packed her things and left the hospital alone. Of course, Bob didn’t expect Lucia to escape his surveillance again right after what he said to her.
When Malcolm arrived at the hospital, he was not surprised to learn that Lucia had just escaped. Seeing his assistant’s scarlet face, he couldn’t help but smile. “If Lucia had obediently waited for me here, she wouldn’t be the woman I know! » Whatever the reason, she remained hospitalized for three days. It was only natural that she would be angry and run away at the first opportunity.
Lucia had almost forgotten the smell of fresh air. As she left the hospital, she began to take a deep breath. It was a return to real life. The smell of the earth, the exhaust fumes of cars, the sweat of people coming and going and even the perfume of women mingling. The young woman was delighted.
She looked at the time on her phone and then decided to go home before heading to the company. She had been working with the same colleagues for several years so they would be able to accomplish their tasks without her needing to intervene.
Still, she was determined to work hard over the next few days.
After exiting the subway, she returned to the community building where her apartment was located and went up the stairs. She took out her keys then tried to open the door but, to her surprise, it had been unlocked. Lucia took a step back to check that she was standing in front of the right door. It was indeed her apartment so she tried to open the door again. She realized the problem was with the lock.
The young woman decided to go see the owner. In reality, she was standing behind her and staring at her.
“Um… My lock…” Lucia said carefully, pointing at the key and then at the door.
The owner seemed to be in a rage. It was then that the young woman thought back to the events of the last few days: her stay in the hospital, the assassination attempt to which she had been the subject as well as all the rumors that were circulating. The owner was such an unpleasant person on a daily basis that Lucia had imagined it would be even worse. She was actually quite grateful because only the door lock had been changed. Her belongings had not been packed up and thrown away by the owner.
“Lucia, the reason I chose you as my tenant was because I thought you were a good person. You led a quiet life. You graduated from a good university and had a stable job. I didn’t think your life was this complicated. Alas… Look what happened! » The owner was furious and starting to lose her temper.
“I’m sorry…” But before Lucia could defend herself, the owner interrupted her.
“You’ve become the talk of the town since you messed around with a man.” There were even journalists stationed downstairs who disturbed the other tenants. Everyone has been inundated with questions about you! Additionally, you were the subject of a murder attempt! What if someone comes to my house in the future to kill you? Can you take responsibility for everyone’s lives here? You have a complicated life but don’t involve others in your stories,” the owner replied in one go. It was obvious that she was mad with rage.
“I’ll give you three days to move. After this time, I don’t want to see you anymore. You do not have to pay rent for this month. But I can’t afford to have a specimen like you around! » The owner concluded her diatribe with these powerful words.
“Alright, I understand. » Instead of picking a fight, Lucia just nodded to show that she accepted the owner’s request.
“Here is the key. If I see you still here in three days, I will come and pack your things myself and send you away! » The landlady tossed the key to Lucia and turned on her heel without another word.
Neighbors came to the window to watch the scene and began to whisper. The young woman made sure to ignore them. She shrugged and opened the door with the new key. She looked around and felt a little reluctant to leave the apartment she had lived in for six years.
She wasn’t that sensitive so she would probably be able to overcome the situation. She thought she might move elsewhere temporarily before starting the search for a new apartment. While trying to calm her thoughts, she began to pack her few things.
