Chapter 470

“Mom, everything’s fine now, isn’t it?” Millie didn’t want to dwell on it any longer.

Julia embraced her daughter, sobbing uncontrollably. Right then, there was a knock at the door.

“Mills, Julia,” a woman called out.

That voice… Julia released Millie, and they both looked up. It was Brian and Gloria.

“What are you doing here?” Julia questioned, her reluctance evident. She quickly wiped away her tears and stepped aside as Millie tugged at the corner of her mother’s shirt.

Seeing their tear–stained faces, Gloria felt a pang of guilt.

“We only found out from the news that Millie was at the cruise party last night. She…” Gloria’s gaze lingered on Millie, her regret deepening.

She didn’t know how to bring up the scene where Winston saved Joanna. It was truly heart–wrenching.

After all, Millie and Winston had known each other for so many years. Even if there wasn’t any romantic affection between them, shouldn’t seven years have been enough for him to choose to save Millie first?

Brian brought in numerous gifts and placed them beside the coffee table.

However, Julia was furious at the sight of them. “We don’t need your gifts. Take them back! And I don’t want you here visiting Millie. Leave now!” Her dissatisfaction was obvious.

This was the first time Brian and Gloria had seen Millie since her divorce. After everything the Greers had put her daughter through, how could Julia possibly be gracious to them?

“Julia, we’re truly sorry.”

Gloria didn’t blame Julia for her hostility. She had every right to be upset. The Greers had indeed wronged Millie.

“Mom, it’s not their fault. Millie tried to speak up for them.

Yet, her words only caused Julia’s temper to flare up. “Look at you! You’re still defending them, huh?”

In a flash, tears of anger streamed down her cheeks. At that moment, Terrence rushed into the ward, startled by the scene.

He immediately wrapped his arm around Julia’s shoulder and yelled, “What’s going on here? Wasn’t it bad enough that Winston mistreated Millie? Now you’re here to make my wife and daughter even more miserable?”

Gloria and Brian stood there awkwardly. For a moment, they were unsure of what to say.

It was clear that the Caldwells wanted nothing to do with them, but they had come with genuine intentions to visit Millie.

“Get out! You’re not welcome here!” Terrence barked.

When he saw the items by the coffee table, he quickly grabbed them and tossed them out of the door. Passerbys and nurses looked on as Terrence pushed Gloria and Brian out of the ward.

“My daughter’s doing just fine! We don’t need your concern! Just keep your son in check!”

Having said that, Terrence slammed the door shut.

Gloria and Brian were met with rejection. They then exchanged a glance and sighed in resignation.

Brian shook his head, picked up the items from the floor, and said, “Let’s go see Win now.”

“We can retrieve the gifts we brought for Millie, but our dignity is lost for good,” Gloria commented as she looked at the things in Brian’s hands sorrowfully.

Brian remained silent as they walked away, their departure marked by an air of desolation.

In the ward, Millie said softly, “This is a matter between me and Winston. It’s not their fault, so there’s no reason to direct your anger at them.”

Fuming, Terrence responded, “They failed to raise Winston properly. So why shouldn’t they be held responsible?”

He couldn’t bear to think of how guilty he would feel if something had happened to Millie at the cruise party. After all, he had insisted that she attend.

Terrence frowned and walked over to the window, while Julia lowered her head to pour a glass of water.

After a moment’s silence, Terrence slowly spoke up. “If you want to leave the country, then do it.”
