Millie lifted her head and stared at Terrence’s back. A father’s love was often silent and unspoken..
It was said that mountains were too great to overcome and some people were beyond reach. Yet, in her life, Terrence was both the mountain she could scale and the person she could catch up to.
That was because he would stoop to lift Millie over hurdles and unconditionally keep pace with her. Despite that, he would eventually fall behind, unable to keep up with his beloved daughter.
Julia frowned when she heard what Terrence said. It was obvious he hadn’t talked to her about it.
“If being abroad gives you a sense of freedom, then by all means, do it. It’s better than you ending up in the hospital all the time here.”
As Terrence spoke, he turned and fixed his intense gaze on Millie, conveying his seriousness. However, her heart ached with a profound sense of remorse.
Over the years, she had been her father’s source of sorrow. She watched helplessly as he grew older, while she retreated away from her own struggles.
Millie had never felt so utterly defeated. For the past year, she had come to see herself as a complete
failure.
Beside them, Julia sobbed quietly. The sound of her crying drifted into Millie’s ears.
Every time Millie looked at her, she would force a smile. However, Julia’s tearful eyes were like sharp knives piercing Millie’s heart.
Millie looked down, unable to respond.
Before long, Sebastian arrived with the doctors for the rounds.
“Dr. Lloyd,” Julia and Terrence greeted him.
Sebastian nodded in acknowledgment before saying, “I’ve reviewed all the reports, and there’s nothing to worry about. Just focus on recuperating and regain your strength.”
He believed that Millie would take care of herself well. Considering her status, he felt there was no need for further explanation.
“It looks like last night’s cruise party didn’t go well,” Sebastian remarked.
He then dismissed the others so he could speak with Millie privately. “You’re stable, and Joanna is doing fine. But there are two serious cases.”
Millie’s confusion was evident as she looked at him. Two serious cases?
Sebastian continued, “It’s Winston and Sean. Winston is still in a coma with a high fever that won’t
subside.
“As for Mr. Stringer, he has a large wound on his abdomen. After getting soaked in seawater last night, the injury is now inflamed, and he’s running a fever as well.”
Millie was taken aback. Sean? Right, he was the one who had jumped into the sea to save her the night before.

“Which ward is Sean in?” asked Millie.

Her question surprised both Julia and Terrence. They had expected her to ask about Winston, not Sean. When had she even met Sean?
“He’s right next door,” Sebastian answered, pointing to the adjacent room.
Millie acknowledged with an “Oh“. Sebastian blinked, wondering if she would ask about Winston’s ward. After waiting for a moment and seeing that she wasn’t going to ask, Sebastian went back to his duties. Once he had left, Millie tried to get out of bed, but Julia quickly stopped her. “What are you doing?” “I want to check on Sean,” Millie explained, “He saved me when I fell into the sea.” “Sean saved you? Are you close with him?” Julia asked, no longer trying to stop her.
Millie put on her coat and shook her head. “Not really. We only met once.”
As she slipped on her slippers, she added, “Mom, Dad, I’m fine. You should get back to your work.”
Terrence and Julia exchanged wary looks. Their worry for Millie never faded.
Right then, Millie approached Terrence and wrapped her arms around him. “Dad, I promise I won’t make you feel sad anymore.”
“You better not!” There was a heavy note of concern in Terrence’s voice.
Millie nodded firmly. Yes, she wouldn’t hurt her father anymore.
With that, Millie went to visit Sean. He was still unconscious with a high fever, and his ward was empty.
The nurse said, “The Stringers are truly indifferent. I was shocked when they just said they’d send a butler to check on Sean after I called to let them know he was hospitalized.”
