“Why is Millie so cruel? How could she hurt you like that?”

Harriet was worried as she watched Logan tend to Joanna’s wounds at Lowell Manor. Joanna’s injury deeply pained her.

Logan’s expression remained stoic and grave.

Joanna gazed at Logan, too afraid to say anything. Logan had been quiet since they arrived home, and even while treating her wounds, he seemed distant. She wondered if he knew she had stolen the credit for Millie’s heroic action.

“How did the Caldwell family raise Millie?” Harriet was furious at the mere thought of it.

Logan calmly set aside the first–aid box and suggested, “We should ask Joanna what she did first.”

He shielded Joanna from Millie to preserve her dignity and protect her reputation. If she really made a mistake, they would educate her at home instead of in front of others.

Joanna felt nervous after hearing his words. “Logan, I…

“What did you do?” Logan couldn’t comprehend the reason behind Millie’s ruthless behavior toward Joanna. Numerous scratches littered her pretty face, and even the corner of her mouth was injured.

She lowered her head and replied softly, “Nothing.”

After that, Joanna rushed upstairs.

Logan was puzzled by her unusual behavior, suspecting that she was hiding something.

Harriet looked at Logan with a complex expression. “Do you think I should go and confront the Caldwell family?”

“Mom, you shouldn’t let yourself get so carried away when it comes to Joanna.” Logan sighed, clearly exhausted.

Harriet then asked with a hint of grievance, “Logan, is there still no news about Lou?”

“I’m still investigating,” he replied.

She felt sudden despair, wondering when she would see the results of his investigation after all these years. She also wondered if Louisa was still alive.

She couldn’t help but feel envious of families who had all their members together and were happy.

“I’ll go upstairs and check on her,” Logan said.

Harriet waved her hand, signaling he could leave.

Logan knocked on the door, and seconds later, he heard Joanna’s panicked voice from inside. “Logan, don’t come in.”

He removed his hand from the doorknob. A moment later, Joanna opened the door. It appeared that she had recently undressed, as her collar was slightly disheveled.

Logan glanced into the room and noticed something on the coffee table. Before he could see it clearly, Joanna blocked his view. “Logan.”

He frowned. “What happened between you and Millie?”

“Logan, don’t you trust me? Why do you keep mentioning Millie? Are you doubting me? As my brother, shouldn’t you trust me unconditionally? I didn’t do anything wrong!” She sounded urgent and seemed a bit guilty and eager to avoid responsibility.

Logan was rendered speechless. Suddenly, the door slammed shut with a resounding bang.

Logan felt extremely powerless. He had already placed a lot of trust in Joanna. The entire family had truly spoiled her, and it appeared that she couldn’t be spoiled any further.

Logan sighed as his phone rang. It was the news his assistant had forwarded to him about Winston kneeling before Millie in public.

Logan was shocked by it, particularly by Winston’s humiliation. He couldn’t believe it. However, upon enlarging the photo, it became clear that the person Winston was kneeling to was indeed Millie.

Weren’t they divorced? Why would Winston kneel to Millie? The relationship between Joanna and the two was truly complicated.

His assistant also sent another message, “Boss, have you read this news? Greer Group is going to be in trouble.”

Logan stopped reading after acknowledging his text. Indeed, Greer Group was going to face a major crisis.
