The Alpha King’s Ugly Bride Chapter 51
A knock came to Xavier's door, and he cringed and buried his head further into the pillow. He had dismissed the guards and told them to not bother him, not even if the palace was on fire. Whoever was at the door either had a death wish or had a death wish. He The last two guards that were in his room felt his fury. However, what he did then would not compare to what he would do to the intruder at the door.
would be inclined to give it to them if they didn't leave. He almost fell back to the state of sleep when another knock came on the door.
His hand fisted in a second and his eyes fluttered, already angry, and it made his head hurt. Before he could take himself off the bed, the door opened and someone entered.
Usually, he'd know the intruder by their scent, but the much wine he had drunk before falling into bed last night still affected his sense of smell. He didn't care, he would do justice to the intruder either way.
He got off the bed and turned around, but he saw his queen standing in his room with a curious look on her face.
He halted. The red in his eyes vanished and he unclenched his fists.
The last time he saw her, she had a terrified look on her face as if she beheld a monster. He was the monster.
'You were punishing your king's men just because you didn't like the report they brought you. The punishment was uncalled for and you know it too!
He ignored the voice in his head and focused on the maiden before him, holding onto a brave face.
She had a simple black lacy gown that barely held onto her, yet made her look exquisite. Her hair she made into a ponytail, but a few strands strayed away and he wanted to reach out and tuck them behind her ear. He stopped himself. Her amber eyes enticed him. Its golden flare looked so unique and he could stare at them all day long and never tire of seeing them. She looked too good to be true.
She was also in his room. Unlike the last time, she didn't look terrified. Did that mean she didn't see him as a monster anymore?
Why did he even care how she saw him?!
"Mia." he breathes, his eyes filled with mixed emotions.
"My king," she replied, keeping the distance between them.
He grunted, not liking the state he had been thrown into because of her presence. "I gave words to not be disturbed. Did the guards not tell you that?"
"They did. But it's been days since you suspended all the royal meetings and schedules. I thought you would get back in your own time, but so far, you haven't. I'm worried."
Her concern felt genuine, but he didn't want to trust it. He didn't want to trust anything anymore. Being affected by him didn't mean she cared for him. Everyone could betray him and break his heart, and she wasn't an exception.
He scowled, turned from her, and staggered towards the bed. "I wanted to be alone."
"You never told me why you've shut yourself up here." She took a step further.
He heard, and the hair on his skin stood on alert. He wasn't sure if it was a good thing or bad at this point. His eyes fluttered, and he placed his thumb on his temple. His headache was lasting longer than it usually should.
"Why? You're going to fix it and make it go away? Do you hope to fix the monster you call husband?" he bit out harshly before warning. "And for both our sakes, stay back."
She sucked in a breath, her voice held a little hurt as she said. "I don't want to fix you."
"Good, 'cause that's not your job. Your job is to be a good little wife and do as you're f*****g told. Now leave." he spat out harshly.
He laid back in bed, and his eyes fluttered, ignoring the woman standing in his room. After a while and hearing no noise, he concluded that she'd followed instructions for once and left. This was the queen he wanted, one that would do what she's told and obey simple instructions.
He almost drifted into the dream world when he felt a fountain of cold water being emptied onto his head. He choked in bed and his eyes flew open to see Mia with an iron bucket, which usually stayed in his bathroom beside his bathtub.
"What the f-" he didn't get to finish because she smacked the bucket against his face, almost sending his head rolling three-sixty degrees.
She tossed the bucket to the floor. He was still in a state of recovery when she grabbed him by the face. "I'm not trying to fix you. I am trying to save us both from the disaster you're about to bring down on us with the stunt you're pulling. Your father already visited twice in the last four days and in those days, you were not doing your duties as king and I had to cover for you. If you keep on this road, he will replace out the truth, then overthrow you and you will be left with nothing. How will I get my compensation after all this is over? So you see, this isn't me trying to fix you, it's me trying to save myself."
He knew she didn't care for him. It was all an act.
"Bloody woman!" he snarled, his rage fuelled by her actions and words. He surge off the bed and grabbed her by the neck and shoulder and slammed her to the wall in seconds. His grip tightened as tight as his teeth. "You know there is a limit to my goodness and you've pushed past it already." His fangs grew out and his hands around her became furry.
She had overstepped her path, but she didn't seem to care. She didn't fear for her life.
"Then kill me..ee, I'd gla...dly take that fate than the de-struc...tion you're dri...ving us to...wards!" she choked out, not struggling to release his hand around her neck.
His eyes blazed red. "Maybe I should kill you!" he sneered into her ears. "Everything was okay before you came along. Now I'm a mess."
"Then do it!" she barked at him with the last strength in her.
