The Alpha King’s Ugly Bride Chapter 64
The ray of the sunlight peeking through the slightly parted window flickered on Mia's face. She moaned and twisted a little in bed before parting her lashes and becoming conscious of her environment. Her brain felt hazy while she tried to wrap her head around the events that took place last night. It seemed blank. Yet, something told her so much had happened. She swam her hands on the bedsheets, and they ran over her naked body. Then it hit her. It wasn't a dream. She had given herself to the alpha king, and he had taken her. He had claimed every part of her. He also took her surrender, and she took his. She turned her head to the other side of the bed. But Xavier was no longer there. She didn't expect him to be. He took her to punish her and seeing him would have been awkward. She didn't want to think about it, but she was certain he had moved on from it and already marched into the next conquest.
That thought made her heart sting a little, and she groaned.
She had grown a soft spot for her husband than she ever thought possible, and that could ruin everything. If only she could keep her heart in check.
The more she tried, the harder it became.
She moved her legs, trying to get off the bed, but she felt a slight sting. The reminder of the event that had taken place the previous night. There was so much pleasure that made her forget the pain, but the pain existed. Why did he leave?
Was she that bad?
And why was she overthinking it?
Fuck, Mia, you really need to stop this.
She sighed.
This was why she couldn't trust him. She couldn't trust that he would be there when she needed him. This was one of the times she would have appreciated his presence, but he was gone and she didn't know where to or why. Hours later,
The door cracked open while Mia sorted the few books she had collected from the bookstore onto the shelf. They were about thirty new books in her study and she had successfully read through over five already. She hoped to finish in the next two months. This would keep her busy until the next book shipment came in. It would also keep her mind occupied and give no room for any unwanted thoughts, especially about Xavier Ainsworth.
To say things had gotten weird was an understatement. She did not want to exaggerate, but it felt as if the s*x took them seven steps back from the place where they used to be.
Xavier didn't come downstairs for breakfast. First, he disappeared from her chambers without words and then he chose to decline breakfast. Something the Xavier she'd known would never do. She needed explanations, and he hadn't given her any so far.
She pulled out a book with the title 'One Thousand and One Nights' and she guided her legs over to her seat. She sat and flipped the book open to the first page to read through. Not long after she started reading, the door flew open and Xavier stepped into the study.
He glance around and his eyes met hers and the blankness in them disappeared. He moved over to the table and took a seat, stretching his legs out in front of him. She watched him closely without an utterance of words. They remain quiet for a while and Mia couldn't return to reading her book as interesting as it was. She was now sitting with the alpha king and having him watch her. There was no way she'd concentrate with that heated gaze of his. So she shut the book.
"Why are you stopping?" he spoke up with curiosity dripping from his voice.
"Because I believe you're here to talk," she replied.
He furrowed his brows. "And if I'm not?"
"Then I'd ask what you want."
"Can't a king visit to see his queen read?"
"A king most certainly can, but doing it in such a sudden manner would arouse suspicion from his queen. Especially if the queen had felt ignored and abandoned without cause all day."
His eyes flashed with remorse at her words, and his head dropped. "Did anyone tell the queen she's very smart beyond her years?"
"Yes, you have." she rolled her eyes. "She also believes she deserves a proper explanation for his abandonment."
He pulled himself up to sit properly. "The king believes she does, and so he came to apologise."
She placed her elbows on her table and fixed her eyes on him. "If you're here to apologise and explain, you have to speak in first person or I will reject your apology!" she informed him.
His lashes narrowed at her, but she gave him a straight look. "F**k!" he growled under his breath, but she heard him.
"I do not have all day!" she snapped at him.
"I'm sorry for leaving and also for my silence all day. You did nothing to deserve it."
"Then why did you?"
"Because there are things we should have talked about before we fell into bed," he said, rising to his feet. "I didn't see this attraction coming along when I offered you the deal months ago, or I would have stated this. In the heat of the moment then, I forgot to inform you we were doing more than just having each other. We were sealing our union as husband and wife. The last matrimonial ritual had always been the consummation of couples. That bound them together as one and we did that yesterday." "What does that mean?"
"It means you're not just my wife and queen anymore, you're also my Luna."
