Love Began with the First Meeting -
Chapter 643 Another Misunderstanding (Part Two)
When Brian returned to the villa, he was surprised not to replace Molly there. Though the problem in Dragon Island was not yet completely resolved, it would no longer trouble him. That's why he left no orders to anyone to watch over Molly. Besides, he was thinking Molly was still sleeping.
He took out his cellphone and dialed Molly's number. It kept ringing and ringing, but she didn't pick up the phone. A frown slowly creased his face as Brian wondered what had happened to Molly when he saw Lisa walking into the room. Surprised, Lisa said, "Mr. Long, you're back already?" He was taken aback by her reaction.
"Where's Molly?" he asked Lisa. His sculptured face looked gloomy.
"Mrs. Molly Long said she wanted to go for a walk," Lisa explained. "I guessed she was in low spirits and hadn't been outside for several days, so I thought it would be good for her to get out and walk. That's why I didn't stop her." Manipulating his phone to access the global positioning system, he inputted the order just as his cellphone rang. With a frown, Brian picked it up, and his eyes turned dark at the message he received.
"Mr. Brian Long? Miss Yan has been in an accident and is in the hospital." It was the deputy director of the Dragon Empire Group's private hospital who called him.
His frown deepened as Brian inquired briskly, "What happened?"
"She arrived here at noon. She's now being given emergency treatment. But, I'm afraid her condition doesn't look very optimistic right now," the hospital official kept his voice low as he spoke. He had been trying to contact Rory for several hours already, without success. With Becky's condition not improving, the deputy director had no other choice but to inform Brian about the situation.
"I'll be there right away!" Brian quickly said. He hung up the phone and called Tony to prepare the car again. They left the villa with tires squealing.
The driver had orders to get to the hospital in record time, and Tony hardly noticed the leaves being blown away by the speeding Benz.
When they arrived at the hospital, Brian nearly jumped out of the car and briskly walked towards the operating room. The deputy director was waiting for him in the hallway. As soon as he spotted Brian, he went up to greet the man.
"Mr. Brian Long!" he called out anxiously.
Hand in his trouser pocket, Brian didn't stop walking until he stood in front of the operating theater's door. He saw the light board flashing with "In Operation" and sighed deeply. "What happened?" he asked.
"Miss Yan's car collided with a speeding Hummer. The airbag in the Hummer failed to deploy, and its driver didn't have his seat belt on so he was ejected out of the vehicle and died instantly," the hospital official reported. "Initial investigation by the police found the Hummer's brake was faulty and possibly tampered." The deputy director's expression shifted from anxious to solemn as he added, "The police think that Miss Yan was driving to the hospital to have her eyes checked up." Turning to look at the hospital official, Brian inquired, "Who's the driver of the Hummer?"
"The dead driver has not been identified yet. Police are still investigating," he replied. "As soon as Miss Yan reached the hospital, we started emergency treatment, but her heartbeat stopped several times already," he said as professionally as he could.
Brian listened without saying a word. Seeing no reaction from him, the deputy director stopped speaking, and merely stood beside Brian, who remained unruffled. Looking at Brian's unperturbed features, the man felt uneasy. The relationship between Brian and Molly was unclear in the eyes of outsiders, and his attitude towards Becky was just as puzzling. Now with Becky in a life-and-death situation, he wondered what Brian would do in case the operation was unsuccessful.

Losing track of time, Molly had no idea how long she had been on the bus. She snapped out of her reverie as soon as she heard the driver announce that they had reached the terminal. Molly had a stoned look as she disembarked from the bus. The girl now stood at the bus stop, looking lost as she surveyed her surroundings. Slowly, her mind recognized the familiar view.
Staring at the road she stood on, her eyes darkened in panic. Pressing her lips together, Molly was hesitant to move forward. In her mind, she wanted to verify what Lucy had been saying but was afraid of seeing what she didn't want to see.
Breathing deeply, Molly took a step towards the road. When she stood at the end of the hospital corridor, Molly realized she was more desperate than ever before, and she felt frantic at this moment.
Molly ordered herself to leave. But her feet refused to cooperate and couldn't move. There she was, standing and staring at the man whose eyes never left the operating room door. Seeing Brian, her heart instantly felt empty.
The red Firefly Stone around her neck was gradually turning darker and darker until it became a gray stone. Her nose was painful from too much crying. Before coming to the hospital, Molly had told herself she only wanted to have a look and would go on living her life this way as long as Brian wasn't with Becky. Admitting it would be a painful and difficult existence, Molly still vowed never to leave. It wasn't just for Mark, but also for herself.
But could she still do it after what she had witnessed?
Teardrops spilled down her cheeks as she turned away, burning a hole in her heart.
Inexplicably, Brian felt a sudden ache in his heart. Frowning, he turned to look at the hallway but saw nothing. The hallway was empty and quiet, and the sound of breathing was the only thing clearly audible. Brian reflected on the events with a slight frown just as the light indicating the operation was in progress, suddenly switched off with a "ding" sound. Soon, the door opened, and a doctor stepped out.
The doctor wasn't surprised to replace Brian waiting outside. The physician walked towards the man and reported, "Mr. Brian Long, Miss Yan's operation was a success, although temporarily. We have to closely monitor her tonight to see if she can survive this crisis."

Once out of the hospital, Molly trudged along with the bustling crowd, unsure whether she enjoyed her solitude or not. Observing the colorful expressions of passers-by, she felt her body turn cold.
When she came upon a park in the middle of the street, Molly hid there as if she wanted to escape from the lively street full of people. She found a discreet groove under a locust tree and sat there, eyes still staring blankly into space.
She again failed to notice her cell phone's screen flickering again and again. The light would blink each time the phone rang, and this had been going on for several hours already. Molly must have missed more than a dozen calls. "Why doesn't mommy answer my calls?" a disappointed Mark kept asking. He lowered his eyes in disappointment and pressed his lips tightly in frustration.
Feeling sorry for the boy, Wing stroked his head tenderly and said with a smile, "Maybe, mommy is very busy now that's why she can't hear her phone ringing."
