Chapter 142

Madelyn thought about the situation earlier. Everyone must have believed she had married someone in their 70s or 80s.

The atmosphere in the car became quiet once more.

Madelyn could tell Andrew was mad again. He didn't like it when people commented about his age concerning their relationship.

Reflecting on what had happened, she realized she had

made a terrible mistake due to her earlier anger at Easton.

If her husband was mad, what could she do? She could only try to appease him, of course.

"Darling, I really like that you're older. No, I mean, I don't mind that you're older, really!"

"I'm old?"

"Of course not! You're not old at all. I'm the old one."

The more she spoke, the worse the situation got.

On the verge of tears, Madelyn was unable to explain herself adequately.

Andrew felt a little better after seeing her flustered

expression and recalling how she had made Easton look so pathetic earlier.

After seeing the photo, he had rushed over in a rage, but now

Madelyn felt uneasy when Andrew didn't say anything.

"Darling, please don't be mad, okay? I remember now. That jerk Easton was the one who slandered me first by calling you an old man."

She had merely played along with his performance. Who knew she would be so unlucky and get caught?

Reflecting on it now, Madelyn regretted her earlier act. She should have known better than to act on a whim. How was she to know Andrew would come to the hospital without even a prior phone call? With how things were, she could only shift the blame to Easton, who had indeed provoked her.

"Rowan!"

"Yes."

"What's the progress on investigating Horizon International Group?" Andrew asked solemnly, clearly dissatisfied with the current progress.

"The situation has changed because of Mr. Elijah's

presence, but everything is still under control."

Moreover, Elijah had returned precisely because of the investigation into Easton.

To put it bluntly, Elijah had never crossed the line with Andrew during all his years abroad.

He was back now because he was forced to.

Although Elijah had intervened in Easton's investigation, he had yet to realize that the focus of the investigation had shifted, which would lead to even more severe consequences for them.

Andrew didn't say anything else. He lowered his head to look at the nervous-looking Madelyn in his arms, his gaze growing increasingly sharp and cold.

Madelyn rubbed her hands together.

"Darling..."

She had explained everything that needed explaining and said all the comforting words she could. At the moment, she really didn't know what else to do other than behave submissively.

Her voice was so gentle and pleasant that any man would replace it irresistible.

Nevertheless, Andrew still had a stern expression on his

face.

"What did you get him with the money you took from me?"

"Huh?"

The sudden question caught Madelyn off guard, stunning

her for a moment.

Recalling what she had said earlier, she realized that he was referring to the lie she made up at the hospital to counter the rumors spread by Easton.

She didn't expect that Andrew was already there when she

said that.

She gave a dry laugh and said, "Would you believe me if I said that I didn't do anything like that?"

"You didn't?"

Madelyn nodded fervently.

"I really didn't do anything like that. He falsely accused me of being financially supported by an old man, so I slandered him back!"

She looked particularly loveable when she spoke in such a

serious way.

Andrew's heart softened a little. At the sight of her pitiful expression, he couldn't bear to continue making things difficult for her.

But then, he said seriously, "For the past few years, I have indeed supported you."

"That's true, and I'm very happy to have been supported by you, but that jerk has no right to comment on it!"

Since he looked serious as he spoke, she eagerly agreed to

what he said, even if she didn't need him to support her.
