Chapter 9

Jealousy filled Elena's eyes when Madelyn mentioned she was Andrew's wife. She had originally wanted to speak up for Madelyn, but now, she decided not to. She threw herself into Amelia's arms and pretend Caleb was already furious, and Elena's tears only added to it. The fact that Madelyn was throwing Andrew's weight around made his blood boil. "Are you using Mr. Miller. to threaten me? He's my son-in- law! What can he do to me?"

"So what if she's threatening you?" A man's low voice rang out from the entrance. Andrew, Rowan, and Jason entered, looking icy and aloof.

Caleb was forced to suppress his fury. His face had become so red that he looked like a tomato.

Madelyn was surprised to see Andrew. Then, she ran to him. "What are you doing here, darling?"

Judging from the looks she had seen on Rowan's and Jason's faces earlier, she thought the meeting was over something difficult. Who would've expected it to only last an hour?

Andrew glanced at her before pulling her into his arms. Then, he gave Caleb a dark look. "What were you going to do to my wife, Mr. Garcia?"

Caleb snapped to his senses. He suddenly felt like he was holding a hot potato instead of a belt. He threw it aside, looking embarrassed. "You're here, Mr. Miller. I was just asking what happened. I heard about

Andrew was his son-in-

law, but Caleb's tone was cautious and apprehensive as he spoke. He was supposed to have the upper hand over Andrew, but whenever he saw Andrew, he couldn't help feeling inferior. It was an uncomfortab

could he do about it?

Fortunately, Andrew seemed to be losing patience with Madelyn after her constant clamoring for a divorce. Once it was finalized, Elena would marry Andrew, and life would be easier for Caleb. Andrew glanced at Elena and Amelia, who were holding each other tightly. His demeanor became even icfer. "What were you going to do with that belt?"

Caleb was confused. Why did he feel like Andrew hadn't lost his patience with Madelyn? In fact, he seemed to be very protective of her.

Sweat beaded on his forehead. He glanced at Madelyn, obviously hinting at her to

step forward to take the blame. This time, however, she didn't act like how she would have in her past life.

She had craved their love far too much then and would always defend them. Now, she acted like she didn't see anything and pressed herself closer to Andrew. "My face hurts, darling." Amelia had wanted to hit her earlier, right? She had missed, but the book had gotten

her in the forehead.

The tension thickened at her words, and everyone fell silent. The Garcias gnashed their teeth at Madelyn.

Amelia detested Madelyn, but she was pleased to have Andrew as her son-in-law. Whenever she went to any branded stores, she could just drop his name to get things for free. Now that she could see Andrew's attitude toward Madelyn, she got up and

hurried to them. "Andrew, things aren't as they seem. You know what Maddie is like. We were just afraid that she'd cause too much trouble for you and wanted to-" Wanted to what?

Andrew shot her an icy look, making her swallow the rest of her words. Her face turned red with humiliation.

Elena stood up, looking weak. "This is all a misunderstanding, Andrew."

She stepped forward so that he could see the bruises on her face. That way, could push all the blame on Madelyn.

she

Madelyn glared at her. How had she not noticed what a scheming bitch Elena was in her past life when it was so obvious?

Elena was about to continue explaining matters to Andrew when Madelyn slapped her hand away. "There isn't any misunderstanding!"

She stood before Andrew, looking like she wouldn't allow anyone to touch him. It made Andrew's expression soften.

Meanwhile, Caleb and

Amelia were pissed to see Madelyn stopping Elena from having any contact with Andrew. Amelia put on a gentle look and stepped forward. Come with me, Maddie. I have something to tell you." She reached for Madelyn. It was obvious she wanted to create an opportunity for Elena and Andrew to be alone.

Madelyn watched them, her mockery evident. Deep inside, they all wanted to kill her,

yet they had to put on such convincing acts. Even if Amelia and Caleb were her birth parents, she couldn't help feeling disgusted by them.

She slapped Amelia's hand away. It froze in mid-air, and Amelia stared at Madelyn in disbelief. In the past, she only had to smile at Madelyn to make her come running. What was going on now?

Everyone could tell something was wrong with Madelyn. She looked at the Garcias. and growled, "I'll kill all of you if you dare come any closer to me and Andrew!"

Andrew, Rowan, and Jason all stared at her. Andrew smiled faintly, but Rowan and Jason grew more suspicious of her. What was up with her? Why was she acting like she was terrified of Andrew being tricked Elena and Amelia looked embarrassed. Then, Elena said, "This is all a

misunderstanding, Maddie. Please don't get Mom wrong. She won't hurt Andrew.

You-"

Before she could finish, Madelyn slapped her, unable to stand it any longer. Was Elena crazy, insinuating that Amelia could hurt Andrew?

Amelia snapped, "You've crossed the line, Madelyn!"

It was bad enough that she had laid a hand on Elena when they had not been around to see it. How dare she do it to their faces now!

Caleb's expression was ugly too. If not for Andrew's presence, he would've long since started hitting Madelyn with his belt. He knew Madelyn only dared to act like, this because Andrew was around.

"Let's go, darling." Madelyn didn't want to look at the Garcias' ugly faces anymore. They had long since abandoned her, so it didn't matter whether she returned in the future.

Caleb stood there. He could only watch as Madelyn turned to leave. He would've taught her a lesson in the past but didn't dare to do anything with Andrew around.

"Rowan," Andrew said as Madelyn pulled him to leave.

"Yes, sir?"

"Pause all collaborations with Garcia Group.

"Yes, sir." Rowan nodded, thinking about what a witch Madelyn was. She still had so much power over Andrew! He could only hope that her sudden change in attitude was genuine. If not, he and Andrew's other subordinates wouldn't let her off the hook.

Caleb and Amelia turned pale with fright when they heard that. Caleb ran after

Andrew and grabbed the car door before it could be shut. "Mr. Miller, that would be inappropriate, wouldn't it?”

Andrew looked at him frostily. "I don't know whether Maddie is your daughter, but she's most definitely my wife. You've crossed the line, Mr. Garcia!"

Caleb broke out in a cold sweat at that. Didn't Elena say that Andrew hated Madelyn? Why did he keep standing up for her?

The car sped off before he could say anything. Andrew didn't show him any of the respect a regular son-in-law would show his father-in-law.
