Chapter 95
Grace and Athena were both present when Andrew showed up with Madelyn. Easton's mother, Yvonne Lawson, was also
there.
Yvonne was of Andrew's generation, but she was already in her 40s. She was charming, but she lacked the youthful vitality she
once had.
A hint of hatred crossed Yvonne's eyes once she saw Madelyn, but Madelyn averted her gaze quickly.
Grandma Athena, Grace!" she chirped, purposely leaving out. Yvonne which made her expression sour.
Both Athena and Grace were shocked when they spotted the wound on Madelyn's forehead. Instantly snapping back to her senses, Grace stood up and approached Madelyn in haste. "Maddie, how did you get hurt?"
Before Madelyn could respond, Yvonne snorted. "She probably got hurt while doing something bad."
Madelyn's and Andrew's expressions darkened, and Grace. grew sullen as well.
Yvonne had been living abroad, but she was well aware of what happened between Easton and Madelyn.
She had always looked down on Madelyn, but she'd never actively interfered apart from throwing snide remarks at Madelyn whenever she came back.
Now that Easton had been brought away by Andrew's men, she directed her fury at Madelyn.
Athena shot a scathing glare at Yvonne. "Shut up!"
Despite her displeasure, Yvonne didn't dare to confront Athena. She could only give Madelyn a resentful look instead.
Scrutinizing the bandage on Madelyn's forehead, Athena said, " Maddie, tell me how you got hurt."
Madelyn glanced at Grace, who nodded at her. Enlightened, Madelyn went up to Athena and sobbed woefully, "Grandma, I almost couldn't make it back to see you!" Athena's heart ached upon hearing her words. After all, Madelyn had grown up under her watch, and she'd never seen her so badly injured before.
"What exactly happened? Tell me," Athena crooned.
"Athena!" Yvonne interrupted curtly, reminding Athena before Madelyn could respond.
Was her son's life or this bitch's injury more important?
Athena gave no heed to Yvonne nonetheless. To be honest, she was disappointed in Elijah's family. She turned toward Madelyn and pressed, "Hurry up and tell me!" Rendered speechless, Yvonne felt a surge of fury within her.
Madelyn chanced a glance at Andrew, who was sitting nearby. He looked aloof, and his unyielding stance on this matter was tangible. She instantly understood his stance judging by his demeanor. She recounted everything that happened in I ovitale to Athena. The more she went on, the angrier Athena seemed. Grace. turned pale instead, clearly terrified by the details.
Yvonne, on the other hand, didn't look too pleased, either.
Sensing Athena's steely gaze trained on her, she instinctively looked away.
"Why are you looking at me like that, Athena?"
Enraged, Athena snapped her eyes shut. She seemed to be at a
loss for words now.
Elijah had always been upset about Andrew inheriting the entire Miller residence. She'd always turned a blind eye to their schemes as long as they didn't go too far, but now... Athena's gaze made Yvonne increasingly uneasy. She glowered at Madelyn and said disdainfully, "Did you save
Andrew? It's already surprising that you hadn't betrayed him. What is your motive for saying these things now?" Seeing that Athena sided with Andrew and Madelyn, Yvonne targeted her wrath at Madelyn instead. "Be quiet!" Athena looked incensed.
