Luna Abigail
Chapter 8

Third person P.O.V

She runs with all her might. She needs to reach the Queen before anyone else.

The Queen is in danger, and she doesn’t even know it yet. When she heard the other witches last night, she knew it was too late for them to turn back. She looks over her shoulder.

Someone is following her, and she has an inkling who. They will not catch her.

She is used to moving quickly and silently through the forest. Being an assassin will do that to you. Even though the sound of someone approaching grows louder, she knows she will have no choice but to talk them out of going with her.

She has decided, and they will never make her turn against the Queen. Not that they will even try, but she will also not allow them to get involved in her madness. Going against your own twin sister and coven is hard, but her Queen takes priority. She has sworn an oath to Queen Mallory right before they executed her.

The tear momentarily blinded her, and she feels the presences behind her gain. She jumps into a tree and waits. They will be upon her vanishing point in a minute. But when they burst through the bushes, she rolls her eyes and jumps down again.

It was definitively not the persons she thought it would be, but it should not surprise her, it was them.

“Willow, what in the Goddesses’ name are you ding here?” She asks angrily.

“I’m going with you! I can help.. I don’t.. You can’t leave me.” Willow stares at her big sister in despite. She knows why her sister is running away, and she wants to help.

“No! You are going back to grandmother, right now! I took you there so you wouldn’t get involved.” She would not get her innocent ten-year-old little sister get hurt, no matter how powerful she might be.

“And you!” She turns to Jax. “you should know better than to let her leave.” Jax shrugs his shoulder and gives a look at the girl beside him, like ‘yeah, as if that is going to happen with a stubborn a*s as her’.

“She was going to leave with or without me. I am her familiar, and I will protect her!” Jax answers in a bored tone.

“Exactly why you should have made her stay. Do you two know what kind of danger there is out here?” She glares at the stubborn child and her familiar. Jax came to them when Willow was three years old. He claimed her to be his charge. Jax is a shifter, but he shifts into a giant cat – a ferocious feline with no mercy in battle. She shakes her head.

“I will not wait for you! I need to reach the Queen by morning, and Silver Mist is still several hours away.” Jax smiles like the Cheshire cat.

“Oh, don’t worry about us. Willow can ride on my back. We will not hinder your journey.” He knows she has a huge soft spot for her sister. Even though she always seems annoyed by her, he had caught her tender looks enough times to know better.

“Oh, and Ellie?” Jax asks when she was about to turn around. She raised an eyebrow. “Yes?”

“When we get there. What if they try to kill us? They rarely do well with witches, and you and Willow are no ordinary witches.” She sighed.

“The Queen will feel my presence as soon as I am close enough. And if that is not enough to stop an attack, the bond she’ll feel with Willow hopefully is. They are b***d related after all.”

Ellie runs again. She is agile, to say the least, and she is fast. Her demon b***d would do that to anyone. She knows the possibility of getting attacked upon arrival is high, but she has to go! Maybe Willow will be more safe within the pack, and with her b***d sister? She didn’t know, but she knew she had an oath to uphold.

Abigail’s P.O.V

I woke right after sunrise. Matt was still sleeping soundly, and I didn’t know why I awoke at this early hour. Everything around us is silent and peaceful, but inside me, something keeps pulling me outside.

‘They are close, little one. We need to go to the forest boundary before anyone gets hurt.’ Galaxy seems excited about this, but I don’t know why? I

Climb out of bed and try to not wake Matt. Of course that doesn’t work.

“Where are you going this early little Luna?” He asks in a groggy morning voice.

“I need to go to the forest boundary. Galaxy, and something else, is telling me to go.” Matt is suddenly wide awake.

“I am coming with you.” He stands up and gets dressed.

‘Galaxy, do you know who is coming?’ I ask her. She nods in my mind, but doesn’t elaborate further.

We walk outside and heads to the forest. We don’t get very far before Kaiden joins us with Laurel. I sent Matt a glare that says he was overreacting. He chuckles and k****s my temple.

“One can never be too careful, and I will not risk your safety.” I shake my head at my overprotective mate, but it also warms my heart.

“So, why are we out here before the sun rises?” Kaiden asked with an enormous yawn.

“Because your Luna needs to be out here, and we are protecting her.” Matt answers curtly. Kaiden looks to Laurel, who shrugs her shoulders.

When we reach the border, the guards there greet us.

“Have you noticed anything strange?” Kaiden asked them.

“No beta. Everything has been quiet all night.” The guard answers with wide eyes.

The suggestion they should have overlooked something doesn’t sit well with him. They talk back and forth, but I don’t pay attention to what they say. Something or someone is getting close, and I have the urge to go meet them. Why are they calling out to me, but how?

‘Because we are their queen. We were crowned automatically when the last Witch Queen died. This means we have been the Queen of Witches for the past two years.’ Galaxy answers my thoughts. So it was witches coming. But they were not fully witches, there were something else tickling my senses. I just couldn’t place it.

Suddenly, I’m engulfed in strong arms, yanking me backwards. Everyone here growls, and the guards shifts in an instant.

“Matt, what in the world are you doing? Let. Me. Go!” I snarl at him.

“No! There are witches coming, and one of them smells like a demon. And something else.. A feline of some sort.. It can’t be?” The last part is clearly not for me. But either way, these people were here for me, and they were not dangerous.

“Matt, you need to listen to me. They are not evil, or here with malice. They are here for me, and it is them I am drawn to.” He gave me a look of, ‘no f*****g way.’ But this was not up to him.

“I know you just want to protect me, but I need to speak with them. We will listen without judging and take it from there. You can either support me, or get trapped in one of my barriers.” Matt looks livid, and I know his wolf is fighting for dominance.

I wait for Matt and Galaxy to calm down Blade, and when he is calm enough, Matt sighs. He gives my temple a k**s.

“I will not get away with locking you anywhere when there is danger. Am I?” He asks, half amused, half serious. “No, you are not.” I answer before turning around.

There before me stands two girls; one very young, maybe around nine or ten. The other around my age, maybe a little older? The guy takes me aback. He is handsome, slender and moves with an acrobat precise balance.

His movements are fluent, and yet very graceful. All three of them looks the shifted guards with everything from a nervous to a bored expression, and the guy seems very protective of the young girl as he stands very close to her.

“You felt us coming?” The adult woman asks.

“Yes, and yet I don’t know why exactly? Maybe you can enlighten me?” The woman’s lips curl up in a small smile.

“This is not a story for the open your Grace. But I swore to the late Queen to watch over and protect you. Not that you need it, I dare say.” She says with a small chuckle.

“You knew my mother?” I ask, shocked.

“Ahem.. Your Grace?” The small girl says softly and with a curtsy.

“It’s just Abby if you would be so kind. I don’t do well with titles.” The girl gives me a big, toothy smile.

“Queen Mallory was my mother, and Ellie’s as well. Even though that was not directly by choice.” My mouth drops open.

“I am sorry? You say the two of you are my sisters?” I ask, a bit perplexed.

“Yes, and we have been wanting to meet you for so, so long. But mom said we had to wait, because you knew nothing, and had to wait until your 18th birthday. But she never got to tell you.” The girl has tears in her eyes, and I instantly want to hug her and tell her everything will be alright.

“She… She was the best mother. We were there, you know. We saw what happened, and we knew we had to wait to meet you.. It was tough.” The girl spoke with such wisdom. Something she shouldn’t have her age considered.

“Oh, no no.. Mom shielded me alright. But I can read minds, and it gives such insight to the person.” The girl blurs out. She claps her hands to her mouth. The guy quickly takes a protective stance in front of her.

I look between all three of them.

“Okay, I know your name is Ellie.” I told the woman, who give a small nod.

“What is yours?” I ask the other two.

“I’m Willow and this is my familiar Jax.” Willow says excitedly. The guy sends her a look, and her energy dissipates quickly.

“Oops.” I shake my head. Willow is a small hurricane, and full of life.

‘I like her. She is a smaller version of you, and she is honest,’ Galaxy chimes in.

“Well, my name is Abby. This is my mate Alpha Matthew, his beta Kaiden and Kaiden’s mate Laurel.” I look at the guards who have shifted back again, probably because of a mind-link from Matt.

“Why don’t we all go back to the pack house, and you three can tell us why you are here?” I offer. Everyone agrees, and we go back to the house.

Third person P.O.V

The sun has risen from the earth, and the group makes their way back to the pack house. They are all in their own thoughts, but Ellie quietly observes Abby. She is their Queen, and her aura screams power and respect. Ellie knows Abby will make a great Witch Queen and possibly gather their two fractions together. She hopes with all of her that this will become a reality.

She can’t bear the thought of having to choose between her loyalty towards Abby, or her twin sister, their coven and everything she has always known.

The group goes to a small office. Abby makes a detour to the kitchen and explains the situation. Ms Potter promise to get breakfast ready and set it up in there.

Abby thank her and goes on her way. She is confused as hell, but somehow, something deep inside her knows Ellie has been the one watching over her. All the times she had the feeling someone was watching or following? She has never felt the presence to be bad, intimidating, or dangerous. It makes sense, but never the less she is very curious why they have sought her out now.

“Let’s get this under way. Breakfast will be served in here shortly and we can talk and eat.” Abby says to the room, and the g***n of appreciation can be heard from all the guys.

Abby giggles and lock eyes with Ellie – an understanding rise between them and they are both internally rolling their eyes. Those guys were all bottomless pits whereas the food was concerned.

“Okay, so Ellie, why don’t you start with the beginning? How are you and Willow connected to Abby and her birth mother? And what are you all doing here?” Matt asks, back to business and his alpha role at once. Ellie sighs.

“This is going to be a long story, and you will not like some parts of it. But please, let me speak to the end, because if I am interrupted too much, I’m not sure I can finish.” Everyone nodded, and Willow takes her sister’s hand. She knows this was going to be difficult, but Abby and the others deserve answers. They can’t just come here saying ‘the witches from the Water coven want you dead, because they like their freedom and don’t want anyone telling them to stop using dark magic.’

No, this has to be done in the right way, but some things were still very raw for the sisters. And Willow knows she was about to get information her sister purposefully has kept from her.

“This all started 23 years ago. Me and my twin sister’s father and b***d mother were both demons.” Ellie starts, and automatically cower away from the room. She is used to people reacting violently when she reveals this, but nothing happens. She doesn’t know Abby has forbidden anyone from doing or saying anything that can scare the girls or stop the story. Ellie takes a deep breath and looks Abby in the eyes; “Mallory was the Queen of the Witches, and she led the war between the witch and demon fractions.” Abby furrows her brows.

“You know about the fractions of our realm, right?” Ellie asks Abby. The other girl shakes her head and looks puzzled. Everyone else only seems surprised at how she could not know this. It is common knowledge and taught at a young age.

“Okay then.. Well, our realm is divided into four fractions; Vampires belong to The Ruby Rose fraction. Witches and fae people belong to The Amethyst Rose fraction. Werewolves belong to The Diamond Rose fraction. And demons and dark magic practitioners belong to The Obsidian Rose fraction. Normally, you do not mix these, but we know the Goddesses of the realm don’t follow our rules and norms. They will mix between the fractions as they please and see fit.” Ellie watch as Abby’s eyes widen.

“So our b***d parents belonged to the Obsidian Rose fraction, and they always sought to uptain more land. Most of the demons and dark creatures live separate from everyone else, because they are.. Well, evil and vile.” Ellie shrugs.

“When war ensued, Mallory killed my b***d mother. But little did she know my parents had put a spell into action. Whoever killed my b***d mother would have me and my twin transferred into their womb, or the womb of their mate/partner, if the killer was to be male. Mallory detected this after a few weeks, and she carried us and give birth to us. She wanted us to be raised in the realm’s light and become good and pure. I am not pure, but I will fight for the balance and good in the world. My sister is an excellent actress, and fooled Mallory for a long time to think she was the same. But the truth is, that she is dark inside and out.” Ellie takes a sip from her water before continuing.

“Because of my demon b***d, and the magic Mallory transferred to me during her pregnancy, I ended up perfect to be an assassin. Which I am.” Then a knock on the door interrupts them. Ellie welcomes the break with open arms. It is hard to tell these strangers her story, and some parts were best to keep to herself.

An elderly lady comes in with all kinds of food. And when everyone had grabbed something on their plates, Abby gestured for Ellie to continue.

“We grew up with Mallory as my mother, and an elderly witch called Winter. She is mine and Willow’s grandmother in all senses, and she has helped us since they killed Mallory. My twin sister, on the other hand, didn’t care about Mallory’s death, other than she had the opportunity to seek the position of Head Witch of the Water Coven.”

“She poisoned the head witch and took over her position.”

Willow whimpers at Winters’ name, and Ellie moves her to her lap, much to Jax’s dismay.

“When Mallory met your father, Abby, she asked for me to stay with Winter. She would explain everything to him, and see if it was safe for me to come live with them. It was not, and she came back a few months later devastated. She knew she was pregnant and needed to stay away from her fated mate. It was a hard time. Your father would visit us, and Mallory introduced me and told him my story. Your father took to me, and was very gentle and kind, but the good time didn’t last. When you were born, he had to stay away from us, and we placed you with him as a precaution. You were the next Witch Queen, and needed the protection of the pack, when Mallory and your father couldn’t be together. They weren’t as strong apart, and Mallory knew you would be a target for those who despise the royalty.” Ellie takes a sip of water before continuing.

“When you were twelve, Mallory was kidnapped. She was held hostage and used as a breeding machine. But it didn’t work, because she was still bound to her mate. A forest protector, or green wizard if you will, rescued her. They stayed friends and grew very fond of each other. Mallory fell pregnant again, even despise her still being bonded to your father, and had Willow here. The forest protector didn’t want to be a father, and disappeared. We never saw him again.” Ellie couldn’t keep the bitterness from her voice.

“We lived in a cottage between Black Moon and the Water Coven. We lived with Mallory and Winter. They were great, and we had some happy years. Mallory took us on trips to see you, and when you turned 18, she promised we would meet. But then Black Moon killed her.”

Ellie and Willow both have tears running down their cheeks now.

When Mallory was killed, Ellie had to take over the role of family support. She had taken up killing for a contract, and she was good at it. Now she had a reputation for one of the greatest assassins in this part of the realm. She would take contracts from everyone – no matter which fraction they belong to. She had to protect and make sure Willow and Winter had things to eat and wood for fires. It was a hard living, but she had learned to turn off her emotions when on an assignment.

“Yesterday, I overheard my sister Sylla in a meeting with the coven. She planes on attacking this pack with the purpose of killing you, Abby. She wants to take your role as Witch Queen – which also puts Willow in danger. I swore an oath to Mallory. I would protect the Queen’s bloodline, but specifically you.”

At this news, all the guys spring into action.

“She will not harm my mate.”

“Oh, if that witch bitch thinks she can come near the pack.”

“Oh, hell no! No one touches my Luna.” All of them shout over each other.

Abby rolls her eyes and gives an ear-piercing whistle.

“That is enough! I know you all are very protective.” Abby looks to Matt, “but this is overkill, and you scared the poor girls!”

Laurel laughs. “Yeah, keep the shouting down a notch, will ya?” She forces Kaiden down in his chair.

“None of us is going to let anything happen to Abby.” She then stats and watches Abby’s amused eyes.

“What?” Laurel asks, confused.

“You are just different from the timid girl we saw a few days ago. It suites you!” She smiles at the she-wolf. Maybe she just needed a wolf to bring forth the real Laurel? This was something she needed to ponder later.

“Willow, Ellie and Jax, we will like for you to join the pack. Please consider this a home, and of course this goes for Winter as well!” Matt says, and Abby looks at him with pride and adoration. He is accepting her long-lost family with no exceptions made. He is truly the best mate a she-wolf/witch girl can ask for.

“Do you want to stay in the pack house, or do you prefer a cottage on the lands?” Willow looks to Ellie.

“A room in the pack house sounds nice, and then we might get to know our sister?” She answers with a smile.

Jax furrows his brows. “I don’t like to be away from Willow, and a room here…” He trails off.

“We will make sure you get a room just across from the girls.” Abby assures him. He nods and seems pleased with this.

Abby watches as an omega come in and shows her new family to their rooms. She will talk with them later and ask all the questions still racing in her head. She feels Matt give her hand a squeeze. He leans over and k****s her temple.

“Are you okay?” He whispers.

“Yeah. This is a lot to take in, and I have so many questions. But they seem exhausted, and they need to rest. I will ask later.” Matt nods.

“Yeah, they have been on the road all night, it seems. I am proud of you my Luna! Thinking of others, even though you need more answers.” He gives Abby a loving smile.

“Come on. Morning training is about to start, and you can use the stress realise. Or we could have a private stress realise session?” He said seductively. Abby giggle.

“I think the first options is more safe.” She smiles. Matt huff, and drags her up to get a change of clothes. He would show her later what she missed..

‘I’ll show you safer little Luna.’ Blade snickers in Matt’s head.
