Luna's Rejected Vengeful Mate -
Luna’s Rejected Vengeful Mate Chapter 27
The Dark Moon pack, California
Natalia
I never expected to feel so comfortable around Blake’s pack members. I thought they would be cautious around me, knowing I was Elisabeth’s sister.
Everyone respected Blake and his father greatly, and I assumed they were doing their best to make their Alpha happy. Blake had asked them to accept me, and they were doing their best to grant their Alpha’s wish.
They were easy-going people and liked the way I treated them. I had signed a contract with Blake, and I was never one to back down on a contract, even if it affected my personal life.
So, I behaved accordingly and treated his pack as a faithful and true Luna would, with the utmost respect and care they deserved. I was touched by the little pups who tried to gain my attention by offering me flowers.
And then their mothers joined us, being friendly and welcoming. I didn’t realise how many people had slowly gathered around Blake and me, seeking my attention. I always had an excellent memory and remembered everyone’s faces and names.
“I guess no one expected that, Leia. I think they liked that I remembered their names,” I told my wolf, relieved. I felt like a heavy burden had been lifted off my shoulders.
“You will be great, Nat. I trust you, your organising abilities, and your excellent communication skills. And don’t forget that you have me to count on,” Leia assured me, and I smiled. Yes, that was my wolf! Always cheerful and supportive.
The way Blake was looking at me made me uncomfortable. What was on that man’s mind? A strange spark in his eyes made my heart flutter in my chest, and my mouth felt dry. And what was that compliment he gave me before? Did Blake replace another way to humiliate me, or should I trust his actions and believe his words?
It was finally time for us to leave the party and once we said goodnight to everyone, we returned to our room. We were alone again. And the air in the room became stiff and suffocating.
Blake stood in the middle of the room, looking at me while I tried to avoid his gaze.
“I am going to take a bath,” I whispered, and tried to reach my luggage without touching Blake, who stood near it.
I tried to pass him but he grabbed my arm, stopping me. I looked at my husband, and what I saw in his gaze upset me.
“Nat, don’t you think we should talk?”
The hair on my neck stood on end, and a shiver ran through my entire body at the sound of his hoarse voice.
s**t! That was the moment I was afraid the most. He wanted to talk about what happened between us the previous night.
“You can do it, sweetie. It’s best if you two talk about everything now before things get worse between you.”
“I guess you are right. Let’s get this over with, Leia. It’s for the best, and at least we will know where we stand.”
With Leia’s encouragement, I nodded and followed Blake to the sofa.
I was defensive when I looked at him sitting next to me and waited for him to start since he was the one that brought it up anyway.
I studied his face, and I could tell he was nervous. The realisation that Blake could also be nervous was new to me! The Blake I knew was full of ego and confidence.
He noticed me staring and coughed to clear his throat.
“I know what your impression of me is. I behaved like a caveman when we first spoke, but I need you to understand that I had my reasons.”
“Stop right there, Blake. If you start with the same bullshit, I don’t want to hear it,” I growled, knowing where his speech would lead.
I tried to get up, but Blake pulled me down again.
“For heaven’s sake, Nat, would you listen to me? It’s not easy for me, you know.” He ran his fingers through his hair frustrated, and clenched his jaw.
Holy crap! He looked so sexy when he did that!
Control yourself, Natalia. Stop acting like a teenager around him. Things are very complicated between us.
Boy, I was furious at my reaction to him and reprimanded myself.
I took a deep breath, tried hard to compose myself and listened to what he had to say. I would reply to him when he finished, and he’d better be ready to hear my reply.
“As I said, I am well aware of how I behaved toward you, Nat. Please try to understand how I felt all these years. My younger brother betrayed me with your sister, my destined mate.
I know that my reaction to their betrayal cost you ten years away from your father, and no matter what I say, I can’t change that.
As for the terms I put on the contract, requesting that you come back and marry me, I did it because I could not trust your father or anyone from your family.”
My jaw clenched and my face flushed; I would not be able to control my feelings for long.
“Calm down, Nat. Let him finish first, girl.”
Again, Leia’s soothing voice kept me under control and stopped me from punching my dear husband.
I blinked and took a deep breath that would probably last until Blake finished. With a stoic face, I sat straight and waited for him to continue.
Blake
I watched Natalia’s expression change after pulling her back onto the sofa. She was angry with me, and I knew it. And she was talking to her wolf. Her eyes turned a darker shade of blue, making her face glow.
My wife was a stunning beauty; for some reason, my heart ached at the thought that she was somebody else’s fated mate and not mine. What would happen if her true mate ever showed up?
“Stop thinking like that, your jerk. Natalia is ours to keep since you were the one that insisted on bringing her back. I would love to mark that wolf of hers, mate or no mate.”
“Aries, shut up! Have you forgotten that Leia can hear you? What the hell is wrong with you?”
“It’s about time we made our intentions clear, Blake. Isn’t that what you are trying to do right now with Natalia? So, why not allow me to do the same with Leia?”
Fu.ck, my wolf was losing it!
“Blake?”
Natalia’s questioning tone brought me back to my senses. Ignoring Aries and his weird attitude, I continued.
“As I said, after what happened ten years ago, I found it hard to trust any member of your family. So, when your father requested my help the other day, I decided to take the opportunity to get my revenge.
And before you say anything, I know how stupid that was.
I have made your father suffer and deal with many difficult economic situations in the business sector.
And still, he came asking for my help. That seemed suspicious, and I wanted to protect myself and my interests.”
“So, as you mentioned on the phone, you decided to use me to blackmail my father. That way, you would get the necessary insurance and take revenge, right?”
Natalia interrupted with bitterness in her voice. She was hurt; I could tell.
I looked at her, and she didn’t try to hide the tears running down her face. She had been crying silently, and I had only just noticed. I was too engrossed in the facts I was presenting to her to see.
What an i***t! I was a complete a*s.hole.
For the first time in my adult life, I lost it. My wife’s silent tears dumbfounded me. Natalia sat on the sofa, her fingers tangled together, her face as pale as a sheet of white paper.
Natalia had a sad smile on her face. For heaven’s sake, her sadness was like a sharp knife to my heart. I clutched my chest, trying to take deep breaths and soothe the pain I was feeling. Aries went crazy inside my head, running around and growling in frustration. My reaction had upset my wolf as well.
“Make her stop crying, Blake. The pain you feel is too much for me to take, driving me crazy.”
I had never heard Aries complain about feeling any pain. Why was that happening now?
“Because you are in pain, you jerk! You seem to forget that you once had strong feelings for that woman. Your feelings are still there, Blake, and they are much stronger than your desire to take revenge by hurting Natalia. Now, do you understand why I am in pain? It’s your bloody fault, Blake.”
Arie’s reply shocked me to the core. My wolf was right. I still had the same feelings for Natalia. And they were so strong that I flipped when I saw her crying.
And then I remembered. I had seen her cry like this before. And that was the night I discovered that Elisabeth was my destined mate. When Aries growled the word “MINE”, and I hugged Elisabeth kissing her that night, I later saw Natalia crying silently, hidden behind a bush of flowers in her father’s backyard.
My wolf was so excited about replaceing our mate, and I never got the chance to ask Natalia why she was crying that night. But I still remember the pain I felt when I saw her tears.
However, tonight was different. Natalia was now my wife, and I would do everything I could to compensate her for all the pain I had caused her.
I hesitantly took her in my arms. I thought she would resist and push me back, but she didn’t. She sat still, head down, her hands in the same position.
“I am so sorry, Nat. I never expected that my reaction back then would make you flee and suffer so much. I never meant for things to happen that way. I apologise for everything I did to your father which backfired on you,” I whispered, choking.
Caressing her hair, I lifted her face and placed a soft k**s on her lips. It tasted salty, tears mixed with her sweet scent.
I locked eyes with her haunted gaze. And I realised why she was crying back then and tonight. Not holding myself back, I ran my fingers through her hair and claimed her lips passionately- devouring her sweet taste, fighting for a position in her heart.
I stopped only when I realised she was out of breath. Sticking my forehead to hers, I hoarsely confessed.
“I have feelings for you, Nat. I’ve always had feelings for you. And I never expected to feel the same when I saw you again after so many years.
Do you think you can try to forgive my stupid behaviour? I know I am asking too much from you, but I wish you could give me a second chance so we can make a fresh start with our marriage, although I may not deserve it.”
There, I said it. And now what?
I was afraid to look at my wife. I felt her body go stiff in my arms for a while, and then she relaxed.
Okay, Blake, get ready for another rejection! I closed my eyes, prepared to accept Natalia’s denial. She had every right to do so.
And I cried. The tears floated in my eyes, and the almighty Alpha Blake Hunter cried silently as his wife did before.
I felt Natalia’s fingers touching my wet face, softly wiping my tears away.
I kept my eyes closed, unable to accept her pity. It was the most embarrassing moment in my life.
“Blake?”
Her voice came out like a whisper, sweet and tender.
I opened my eyes and she was smiling at me, tears still in her eyes.
“I would love a new start with you. But if you ever turn into the jerk you were the last few days; I will make your life a living hell. And that’s a warning you should not take lightly, my dear husband,” she said in a sweet voice and smiled again. Her smile was cold and scary this time and didn’t reach her eyes.
I stared at Natalia, dumbfounded by the unexpected reply she had given me.
Had she genuinely agreed to start fresh with me? She had, hadn’t she?
“Yes, Blake, she did! Was that all you heard? Have you realised your dear wife will chop your balls off if you ever mistreat her? And if she doesn’t, then I will.”
Leia’s taunting voice made my body tighten, and my balls ache for no reason.
“Holy s**t, Blake, we are fuc.ked,” Aries whined in my head, and I couldn’t agree more.
“Indeed, you are, wolfie,” Leia giggled, and so did Natalia, whereas Aries and I were left speechless and worried about our shaft’s future safety.
