Luna's Rejected Vengeful Mate -
Luna’s Rejected Vengeful Mate Chapter 37
Isola, Italy
Massimo
I was in my hotel room waiting for Fabrizio to come back from Lisa’s flat. He had recommended that it was best not to follow him. Fabrizio preferred to chat with Lisa alone before I faced her.
Before I could talk with her, she fled from her room after Tom informed her about her pregnancy.
Tom’s revelation had a tremendous impact on her, and it scared me that she might decide to do something crazy out of fear.
My experience with Teresa had me worried.
I did not get hooked up to Lisa. She was pregnant, and I held myself responsible for the night we spent together.
Sitting alone in my room, I couldn’t help but think of Teresa.
It still stung whenever I reflected on it. Teresa rejected my child and me and then committed suicide; guilt gnawed at me whenever I thought about her, which was the main reason I never wanted to be devoted to a human woman again.
I used condoms during my intimate actions with human females. I didn’t use contraceptives that night and felt comfortable around Lisa.
And even today, perceiving that she might reject me after Fabrizio revealed that I was a werewolf, I felt an unnatural attraction towards her.
It was not because she was pregnant with my baby. Every time I thought of Lisa, a hot emotion mounted inside my gut, turning into sparks of fire, driving me insane with l**t. I have never lusted after a female like that before.
With Teresa, my reaction was different.
I loved her and felt calm, happy, and complete every time I was around Teresa.
Every time we made love, a gentle sense of fulfilment warmed my soul and made me feel safe.
I was twenty-one and an idealist then. When I met Teresa, I assumed I had found my soul mate.
Boy, I was so wrong about her.
She went crazy after she found out who I was.
I couldn’t even recognise the caring schoolgirl I fell in love with.
I will forever recall how she stared at me after I explained the truth to her.
There was fear and, later, pure disgust in her eyes.
When she disappeared, I was worried sick. I looked everywhere for her. I tried to contact her through our mutual friends, but failed.
And then one night, she sent me a message that broke my heart.
She told me she felt disgusted being kissed by a gruesome creature and being intimate with him. She said the thought of carrying a monster inside her womb made her crazy.
And suddenly, the news of her suicide dropped like a missile and changed my life forever.
I suffered guilt and heartbreak, shut myself inside my apartment and turned down my parent’s pleas to leave my place. Fabrizio, Teresa’s dad, got me out of that room.
He demanded that I not bear the burden of Teresa’s choice and criticised his offspring for her poor judgement and actions.
Fabrizio was in the same position as me. He had suffered his daughter’s and his grandchild’s loss.
They didn’t let him open the coffin at the burial because Teresa’s head was crushed when she landed on the sidewalk and was wrenched from her body.
“Massimo, quit suffering for the past, for crying out loud. I feel suffocated by these gloomy thoughts of yours. Is it possible to look at things differently this time?
You said it yourself the other day. Lisa seemed different from Teresa. Why don’t we wait and see what Fabrizio reports to us when he comes back?”
Onyx grumbled inside my head.
“What’s the matter, Onyx? Why have you changed your perspective so suddenly? Let me remind you, you were the one who criticised me for thinking about Elisa a few days ago.”
I came straight at my wolf.
“That was before I learned she was pregnant with our cub, Massimo. I can’t allow the loss of another pup,” Onyx retorted, hopelessness in his expression, and I couldn’t help but acknowledge my wolf’s feelings.
“I feel the same way, Onyx. It’s not up to us to determine the baby’s future. Lisa has every right to decide what to do, and I will have to comply with her wishes. I am not repeating the same mistakes,” I replied to my wolf.
The loud ringing of my phone cut short my chat with Onyx.
Fabrizio’s name popped up on the screen.
I felt a ghostly grip clutching my heart and all the nerves tingled inside my gut, making breathing difficult.
The fear of what Fabrizio would say made me hesitate to answer the phone.
Was my assumption correct and Elisa decided she wanted nothing to do with me and the baby?
Fabrizio insisted, and I answered the phone, waiting for him to talk.
“Massimo, I am at Elisa’s apartment and she wants to talk to you. I will send you the address. Don’t be late.”
His voice was sharp and mysterious.
He hung up on me, and a message arrived on my phone.
Assuming it was Elisa’s address, I read Fabrizio’s text.
“She is very upset. She found out that her best friend was also a werewolf and Elisa got angry with her for keeping it a secret for so many years.
Please be patient with her when you arrive. She already knew about you as she overheard our conversation outside her room.”
Below that was the address of Elisa’s place.
I left my hotel room in a hurry after calling for a taxi.
I was worried when I got to her place.
What if the reason she wanted to see me was to reject me? How would I react to that?
“Onyx, I must block you before we go into Lisa’s house. I don’t want to frighten her. And I do not trust your reaction to her words. I understand how sensitive you are, which could cause a reaction and make Elisa flee. We don’t want that to happen, do we?”
Before my wolf reacted, I put my walls up and blocked him. After I spoke to Elisa, I would deal with him. It wouldn’t be easy to coax him out, but I had no other option.
I called Fabrizio and told him that I was inside the building and he instructed me on how to replace the flat.
I stood at her apartment door and wondered whether I should knock.
The door opened and Fabrizio appeared.
“I knew you would chicken out,” he whispered, winking at me and letting me inside the house.
Elisa was standing by the window holding a mug and drinking from it.
“I made her some chamomile tea. She fainted before and I wanted her to calm down.”
Fabrizio whispered, and I nodded, not moving my eyes from the woman standing in front of me.
Sensing my presence, Elisa turned to me and our eyes locked.
She looked tired, defeated.
“Fabrizio, would you give us some time alone?” she requested, surprising me at how calm she sounded.
Wasn’t she afraid of me, knowing I was a werewolf?
Fabrizio went to her and patted Elisa on the shoulder.
“I want you to stay calm, my child. Whatever you have to say, don’t get upset because you already had enough for one day,” he told her, and he left the apartment after winking at me.
An awkward silence filled the room as I stood rooted, waiting for Elisa to make the first move. It was her place, and I respected that.
She moved toward the sofa and I followed.
I sat in the armchair facing her and waited for her to begin.
“Getting pregnant with your baby was not my intention,” she said in a low voice and hid her teary eyes from me.
“I know, Lisa. Whatever I say, there is no excuse for what I did, or for what I did not do,” I replied.
“I am sorry,” I continued.
“I am equally responsible as you are. I should have known better. Meeting you at the office confused me and I forgot to go to the pharmacy and take the morning-after pill. And that brings us to where we are today. You are a werewolf and I am a human. Fabrizio explained a lot to me and so did my friend,” she said with sarcasm in her voice.
I didn’t reply. I would never betray Fabrizio by telling Elisa that I knew about her werewolf friend.
“Lisa, I know you have no feelings for me. We spent a night together, and that resulted in pregnancy. Whatever you decide to do, I will support you,” I said, but my heart said otherwise.
I wanted that pup so much.
My instincts told me not to put pressure on Lisa, though.
“What about you, Massimo? You don’t seem to have feelings for me either. What you just said implies that.”
The tired look on her face disappeared, and Elisa took a fighting stance. Her beautiful eyes glowed with fury and stubbornness.
She was so beautiful when she was angry.
I moved in my chair, trying to hide my e******n. That woman did things to me, things I could not control, which pissed me off.
“I am attracted to you, Elisa. You are a beautiful woman. I cannot deny the feelings I have for you,” I admitted, my voice hoarse.
I coughed and cleared my throat, not missing Lisa’s eyes that travelled down my shaft and the mischievous smile on her face.
Now that was embarrassing.
“And?” Lisa asked, waiting for my reply.
“And I want this baby, but I cannot promise you anything, Lisa.”
“Fabrizio told you my story. I do not want to get emotionally involved with another human female, Elisa. Once was enough for me.”
I clarified and watched as her eyes widened in surprise and anger.
“Did I ask you to get emotionally involved with me, you jerk?”
She jumped off her seat and headed to the balcony.
Onyx succeeded in bringing my walls down and growled.
“So much for dealing with everything yourself, you dumbass.”
“You just screwed up big time with her,” my wolf reprimanded my behaviour.
Sh.it! Onyx was right.
She came back to the room looking determined.
“Thank you for getting me out of the complicated position, Massimo Azzarello”.
“And here I was reflecting on how we could make things work, ready to accept a solution you would propose to give birth to this baby safely. Silly me!”
Elisa sneered and walked towards the window and looked outside, ignoring me.
“Lisa, I didn’t mean….”
“Save it, Azzarello. You know the way out.”
Lisa replied, not sparing me a look.
“For f**k’s sake, Lisa, will you listen to me? I want to explain …”
My phone buzzing interrupted me.
I pressed and declined the call. The upcoming disaster with Lisa was something I had to prevent.
The phone kept buzzing and I looked at the screen irritated by the nuisance the caller caused me.
Blake was calling me and for him to insist, something must have happened.
“Sorry, Elisa, I have to take this,” I said and picked up the phone.
“Hello? Massimo? The building we started renovating collapsed. Four people were buried under the ruins and we are doing everything possible to get them out alive. Two of them belong to your team,” Blake said, his voice full of worry.
My voice was full of anxiety as I replied, “I will be there as soon as possible. I am taking the first flight to California, Blake. I am in Isola.”
“Your secretary informed me. I knew you would say that. A flight departs in two hours from Genoa Cristoforo Colombo Airport, Massimo and is only eleven hours to New York. I booked you a ticket. If you leave now, you will have enough time to board the plane.”
Blake had arranged everything for me.
I turned to Elisa who had been watching me closely talking on the phone.
“People were buried under the ruins of a collapsed building, Lisa. I have to leave for Genoa airport. We will continue this conversation after I get back. Please take good care of yourself.”
I rushed out of the apartment and called a taxi on my way down.
