Blake

Lucas and I were in my office working on the renovation project we had started a few days before. The issues with the building materials cropped up as we started working. Lucas and I were trying to solve the problem without my partner from the Azzarello company.

A knock on the door disturbed us, and before I gave permission, Emma entered the room.

“What can I do for you, Emma?” I asked. I was her Alpha, and she had permission to come to me if needed.

“I need to talk to you, Blake. In private,” she continued.

“Whatever you need to tell me, you can say in front of Lucas, Emma. There are no secrets between my Beta and me,” I said.

“Fine, by me,” Emma replied and dropped the bomb.

“I am pregnant, Blake.”

I thought she was joking, but when I looked into her eyes, she looked serious.

Did she mean it for real?

“Pregnant? What do you mean, pregnant Emma? And why are you telling me this? We have not been intimate for a long time. And I always used protection,” I replied, my eyes narrowing with suspicion, my voice harder.

“I am three months along, Blake. I didn’t notice because I’d had some bleeding, and I thought I had my period,” Emma replied, sniffing, her eyes glued to the floor.

“This is crazy, Emma. You are a doctor; how could you have missed the signs? You should know the symptoms of pregnancy,” I insisted.

Something was wrong.

“I am so upset because of you and your Luna, Blake. How can you blame me for something so serious? It didn’t even cross my mind that I would be pregnant with your baby,” Emma cried.

“I won’t have you back in my life, Emma. Not even if you are pregnant with my baby.”

My words were harsh and a little cruel, I knew, but Natalia was my Luna and beloved wife. I wasn’t planning to betray her.

“Blake, are you sure you want me completely out of your life?”

Emma’s voice trembled, and she held her tummy with both hands.

“Emma, for the hundredth time, stop humiliating yourself. I told you before, Natalia is my chosen mate, my Luna. Nothing will happen between you and me ever again,” I replied.

“How can you put your trust and love in a person whose entire family betrayed you, Blake? You were the one that told me those stories. Remember how you swore you would take revenge on everyone for how they treated you?

Your voice was full of venom when you mentioned Natalia back then. The desire for revenge was burning you up inside. How could you forget those feelings, Blake? Did your precious wife bewitch you or something?” Emma’s voice was shaky, protesting.

“Blake, I can’t scent our baby on her. She may be lying. But what if what she says is the truth? We need to replace out soon and decide what to do.”

Aries was calmer than I was.

I stood behind my desk, my hands balled into fists, and a gloomy expression appeared on my face.

“Blake, what are you going to do? Will you not take responsibility for our unborn child? Or do you want me to have an abortion?” Emma asked in a trembling voice.

“How do I know you are pregnant for sure, Emma? I cannot scent the baby on you. If it were mine, Aries would tell me right away,” I stated with distrust.

“You cannot scent the baby because it’s too small, Blake. I took some medication to stop the bleeding. That prevents the baby’s scent from appearing,” Emma answered.

“I need time to think, Emma. The news you gave me is so sudden. I need a few days to think,” I replied with a shaky voice and irritated ran my fingers through my hair.

“Sure, I understand,” Emma replied and strode to the door.

“What are you going to do, Blake? Natalia will throw a fit when she replaces out,” Lucas said when Emma left, and I growled in annoyance.

“Don’t you think I know that, Lucas? What the hell am I supposed to do? I didn’t expect something like this to happen,” I replied.

I was so frustrated! I wanted to punch a hole in the wall, deep enough for me to hide in it and not face Natalia again.

If Emma was telling the truth; I f****d up big time!

“What if your wife demands that Emma get an abortion? I mean, she has every right to do that, man. She is the legal Luna of the pack,” Lucas continued.

Lucas’s words infuriated Aries. If it were our pup, Aries wanted to consider all possibilities before deciding on an abortion.

Aries growled and cut Lucas off.

“No one else but me will decide this baby’s future, Lucas. Not even Natalia,” Aries growled, taking control.

Why did my wolf say that when I wanted to say that I should talk to Natalia and try to replace a solution?

“Because you are a chicken-shit, Blake. When they replace out, Leia and Natalia will shred us to tiny pieces.”

Aries replied and made frustrated noises in my head, driving me crazy.

Emma’s news surprised and confused me, and Aries was worse.

Out of the blue, I had to fight between my love for my wife and the guilt of having to choose to end an unborn baby’s life. And I had to deal with an upset Aries who wanted to know if the pup was ours as soon as possible.

“Don’t tell me that your marriage and mating to Natalia was a charade, Blake. Was everything you did out of revenge? And if so, how far are you willing to go? You have already mated with Natalia and her feelings for you are pure. Are you sure you want to jeopardise your relationship with your wife?”

What on earth was Lucas saying? Had my Beta lost his mind?

I loved my wife and was afraid of her reaction if the baby was mine. I didn’t want Natalia to get hurt.

Before I got the chance to reply and tell Lucas how I felt, Natalia barged into the office.

Something was wrong with my wife. She was not her usual self.

“Blake, I have to take a quick trip to Italy. Elisa, my friend, is having difficulties and I want to be there for her. I will book a ticket this morning and leave on the first flight to Italy.”

Not giving me time to react, my wife left my office in a hurry.

What did she say? A trip to Italy?

Wow! Something was off.

“Do you think she heard your conversation with Emma and me, Blake?” Lucas asked.

“I don’t think so. Aries would have noticed her presence,” I replied but then Aries spoke up.

“I was so upset with what Emma said that even if she were outside the office, I wouldn’t have noticed.”

I ran after her.

I had to replace out why Natalia was so upset.

The suspicion that she had heard everything crawled inside my heart, eating me up.

In our room, I tried to talk to her, but Natalia ignored me, which only made my suspicions grow.

She let me hug her, but her reaction towards my hug was not the same. I sensed the difference. My wife left for her office to finish some pending work before she left for the airport.

I spent the rest of the day in our room, waiting for her to return.

I was thinking about how to verify that Emma was pregnant with my baby.

I had to talk to Timothy and ask for his help.

Aries and I were afraid that Natalia had found out about Emma and the thought made us anxious. For the first time in my life, I felt lost. What if Natalia walked away from me if she found out about Emma’s pregnancy?

“Wouldn’t Leia tell you something if‌ Natalia had heard the conversation?” I asked Aries, but my wolf disappointed me.

“I cannot reach Leia, Blake. She seemed unwell last night. I have been trying to connect with her since this morning, but Leia is not replying and I am worried,” Aries replied.

That was weird. Leia was fine when we went to sleep the previous night. What could have happened to her? Was that why Natalia reacted that way towards me today?

When Natalia returned to our room, I insisted on taking her to the airport.

The drive to the airport was silent. Natalia wasn’t looking at me and I shot glances full of worry at my wife from time to time.

I must have been staring at her because my wife turned to me.

“Is there something you want to share with me, Blake?” she asked with sarcasm, and I looked at her, dumbfounded.

Was that a hint?

I sank into my seat, feeling uncomfortable under her piercing eyes, and tried to think of a reply.

We entered the busy airport, and I held Natalia’s hand tight. I didn’t want to let go.

I escorted my wife to the departure gate and hugged her, not letting go.

“Blake, you’re suffocating me”, she complained, and that forced me to pull back.

“I will miss you, Natalia. Please come back soon, my love,” I whispered, hiding my face in the crook of her neck and kissing her on the spot.

Natalia looked at me and smiled in a way I found strange.

“We will see about that, Blake. I don’t think you will have much time to think about me. You must decide what to do with your illegitimate unborn child and whether our marriage is a charade. Or whether your actions result from an act of well-planned revenge. So, there won’t be any space for me,” Natalia replied, and before I reacted, she walked away, leaving me behind.

“Natalia, wait. Natalia! Sweetie, please wait. I can explain,” I shouted, but Natalia walked away and I stood rooted in place, not knowing what to do next.

“Fu.ck, Aries, she heard everything. And she misunderstood your words. Why did you say that to Lucas? Now Natalia thinks I fooled her. s**t! What am I going to do?”

Not giving sh.it who was watching me, I dropped to my knees and held my‌ head in my hands.

“Sorry, Blake. I don’t know what got into me. I know I was wrong and I will fix things, I promise. Let’s replace out the truth about Emma and then go replace Natalia,” my wolf replied.

“No way, Aries, I am going to check if there is a free seat on the same flight as Natalia. Otherwise, we are going back, and I will call my friend Dylan and ask for his private jet.” I said and rushed to the ticketing counter.

There were no seats available, and the next flight was the following evening.

I picked up my phone to call Dylan and ask for his jet when my phone rang.

“Blake, you need to hurry back. The building we started renovating collapsed. There are four people buried under the ruins,” Lucas blurted without breathing.

“What?”

My mind went blank, and I rushed outside to the parking lot and into my car.
