Luna's Rejected Vengeful Mate
Luna’s Rejected Vengeful Mate Chapter 45

The Midnight Shifter’s pack, Italy

Massimo

When the jet landed near my pack, I rushed to meet my mother at the pack hospital. She was outside my father’s room, waiting for the doctor to finish his daily examination.

“Mum?”

She turned to the sound of my voice and rushed into my arms.

“Massimo, figlio, you are here,” my mother said between sobs.

“How’s dad doing? What did Doctor Grant say?” I rubbed her back reassuringly.

“He started healing, but he has broken ribs and it will take a while to heal completely. He had him sedated and will try to wake him up today,” my mother explained.

Doctor Grant came out of my dad’s room.

“Alpha,” he greeted and smiled at my mother.

“Don’t worry, Luna. Alpha Maurizio has woken up and wants to see you. He is doing much better today. The healing process has begun sooner than expected. Our Alpha is a vigorous man,” he comforted my mother and me.

We walked into my dad’s room, my arm still around my mum’s shoulder.

He was lying in bed in the dimly lit room with his eyes closed; he looked pale, too pale for my liking.

“Honey?” my mother whispered and rushed to his side.

“Dad?” I followed and stood next to my mother.

My father opened his eyes and looked at us. He raised his hand and caressed my mother’s wet cheeks, wiping the tears off her face.

“Isa, sweetie, please don’t cry. I feel better already. It won’t take long until I am back on my feet,” he whispered, trying to make my mother feel better.

My eyes filled with tears seeing the love my parents shared after so many years. Without realising it, Elisa’s face the last time I saw her came to mind. She had tears in her eyes, frustrated with the way I had behaved toward her.

My heart palpitated inside my chest, and a knot in my stomach stopped me from breathing. I had to see Elisa as soon as possible and resolve the misunderstanding between us. I still could not explain the way I felt thinking of her, or being around that woman. Elisa did things to me and stirred feelings I had buried deep many years ago.

“You are being a stubborn a*s. That’s why you can’t explain those feelings.” Onyx verbally attacked me, but the time was not right for me to bicker with my wolf. My primary concern was my father’s well-being and my mother’s fragile psyche.

I spent the rest of the day by my father’s side and only left to take my mother back to our house to rest for a few hours. As soon as she closed her eyes, I went back to the hospital, to my father’s side.

The next few days went by with me handling my pack’s pending matters and talking with Blake about our business on the phone. I was also trying to figure out how my father got involved in that car accident. My scouts found him alone in his car and there were no signs of the other car. That seemed strange to me and I suspected that the accident was intentional. Someone might have tried to kill my dad. But Why?

My father was back on his feet two weeks later, allowing me to make plans to visit Isola and talk with Elisa.

I was in my office with Lorenzo, my Beta and childhood friend, looking into the latest information given to me regarding my father’s accident.

Taking a break, I tried to call Elisa, but I got directed to voicemail. I tried a couple more times with the same result. Why wasn’t she replying? Was she sick or out of the office? Did anything happen to her or the baby?

“Now you have the time to worry about them? Nice going, you jerk,” Onyx attacked me out of nowhere.

“Onyx, what’s your problem these days? Why do you keep insulting me?” I tried to reason with my wolf.

“Because I have the feeling that you missed the boat, dude,” Onyx snickered in my head, and his words struck me like lightning.

“Lorenzo, give me a minute. I want to call Fabrizio and tell him I’m going to Isola tomorrow morning,” I told my Beta and picked up my phone.

Fabrizio’s line was busy, and I dropped the call.

He called me a few minutes later and greeted me rather coldly. I brushed off the thought and cut to the chase.

“Hello, uncle. I am back from the States, and I will come to visit your office tomorrow. I need to talk to Elisa. She isn’t answering my calls.”

I didn’t like the silence that followed.

“Uncle?” An unsettling feeling in my gut told me I wouldn’t like his reply.

“Elisa no longer works for me, Massimo. She left and I have no clue where she is,” Fabrizio replied, and I knew he was trying hard not to swear at me.

“What do you mean Elisa left, Fabrizio? What about the baby? Did she abort the baby?” I questioned, my hands shaking and drops of sweat running down my forehead.

“Who’s Elisa, Massimo? And whose baby are you talking about?” My parents entered my office looking dumbfounded.

I had no time to explain.

Grabbing my car keys, I ran as fast as I could to my car and drove at high speed toward Isola and Elisa’s apartment.

I knew Onyx would distract me, so I put my walls up and blocked my wolf on my way there.

I didn’t even know how I arrived in Isola. It was as if the car was in autopilot mode.

I parked outside the building to replace Fabrizio waiting for me. He stood there, leaning on his car, with a poker face.

“Your dad called me. I knew you were heading here. If you don’t trust my words, let me take you upstairs. You can see for yourself that the house is empty,” Fabrizio said and entered the building.

I followed, knowing deep down that my uncle had no reason to lie to me. We entered the apartment and only dead silence welcomed us. The room was dusty, and the air was suffocating.

I rushed to the living room window and opened it. I couldn’t breathe. All the signs were there. Elisa had left and Fabrizio wouldn’t tell me where she was, if he even knew. I could tell by the look in his eyes. He was angry with me. Correction. He was furious with me.

“Uncle…”

“Not another word, Massimo,” he interrupted.

“How could you be so heartless to not even bother to give that girl a call and ask how she was, or the baby she was carrying? What did you expect? That Lisa would stay put and wait for you to decide to call her? Lisa is not TERESA, Massimo. She is a strong, independent young woman who doesn’t need anyone to support her. Seeing you act like a jerk made her decide to walk away from you,” my uncle accused me.

The baby she WAS carrying? What did Fabrizio mean by that?

“Uncle, what are you saying? Did Elisa abort our baby?” I knew I had it coming, but I had to ask, afraid that I would get a positive reply.

“I am not sure what she did, Massimo, but do you truly believe you deserve to call yourself the father of that poor baby? Is that the way you were supposed to react to the mother of your child?” Fabrizio let out all his frustration with his reply.

“I tried to get some sense into that stubborn head of yours so many times after I found out Elisa was pregnant with your baby, but you wouldn’t listen. Instead of approaching her and making her feel safe, you let all your insecurities get in the way and drive you two apart. Are you happy now, Massimo?” he continued his accusations.

I sat on the sofa, holding my head in my hands. My entire world collapsed in one go.

“I never meant to abandon Elisa, Uncle. All I wanted was some time to adjust to my new way of life, a life with her and my baby. I told her I couldn’t get attached to her only because I was afraid she would reject me the same way Teresa did. Human females are weaker than werewolves, and carrying a werewolf baby might endanger their lives. I didn’t want to forcibly mark Elisa just for her to have my pup. What if she wanted nothing to do with me after she had the baby?” I let my fears out into the open. Fabrizio was the only one who could understand how I felt.

“Massimo, Massimo, figlio, when are you going to stop torturing yourself like that? You should get a grip on your life and be happy, son. You deserve to be happy, Massimo. And since you haven’t found your mate yet, Elisa is not an unacceptable option. She is feisty and a fighter. She will never go easy on you, but if you show her your love, she will never leave you. That is if you replace her, of course,” Fabrizio added, and my heart sank in my chest.

“How do I replace her, Uncle? What if she kept the baby and is now in danger? Holy crap, what am I going to do?” I whispered, leaving the sofa and pacing the house like a caged animal.

I had reached a dead end and didn’t know how to get myself out of it.

Fabrizio didn’t reply. He just stood there, watching my reaction, deep in thought.

Unknown person’s P.O.V.

I had just returned to my apartment after spending the entire day shopping to get the stress out of my system.

My plans didn’t go the way I expected.

I had been watching his movements closely, and I was a step closer to wreaking havoc in his life.

When I found out he had left the country in a hurry, I thought it was the perfect time for me to strike. I hired a professional killer, the same one I had worked with years ago, when he was just a rookie. This time, I didn’t want him to kill a poor woman.

He had to kill the man who ruined my life. That would weaken his son considerably. Losing his dearest father would cause him so much pain that he would never get over it, not in this lifetime.

I had my sleazy friend check Maurizio’s schedule. It wasn’t difficult. He had to apply for a job at Massimo’s company and spy on the father-and-son schedules. And he succeeded.

Knowing Massimo was out of the country meant that his father would make a daily trip from his pack to the company in his car at specific hours. So I asked my friend to give me a detailed account of his movements and had the assassin tamper with his car when he left it unattended.

To make sure my plan would work, I had my sleazy friend follow Maurizio the day he had tampered with his car’s brakes. I wanted to ensure that the old fox would not escape. It was time for him to pay for the way he had treated me.

Forcing me to admit the truth was the worst thing he did to me. It all happened because he found out I was not in love with his stupid son and got pregnant with my lover, who abandoned me the day he found out I had been carrying his baby.

Maurizio demanded I tell Massimo the truth. No way I would do anything like that. And lose the good life his son offered me? Whatever I wanted, I had it before I even asked.

And then Maurizio threatened to tell my dad everything unless I backed off from his son. His words were hard to forget.

“I don’t give a f**k how you do it, you little slut, but get my son out of this relationship before I tell your father what a b***h you are and have him kill you with his own hands.”

My father was a great man, but if he knew about my secret life he would kill me for sure. I was so frustrated with the whole situation that I had a miscarriage.

I thought I was losing my mind. I needed that child to keep Massimo entangled with me. Things got really hard when Maurizio found out the truth.

He forced me to leave Massimo, blackmailing me with the evidence he had about my old drug addiction and the bad way of life I had secretly hidden from my father.

The night before our engagement party, I threw a fit when Massimo revealed his true identity to me, pretending that I didn’t know, putting on an act and pretending to be disgusted by his revelation. It was the only way for me to get away from our relationship without Maurizio telling anyone the truth.

I hid for a few weeks and then sent a text to Massimo, breaking up with him and telling him how disgusted I felt. And then one night, as I was sitting on the terrace of a building, drunk and pitiful, I lost my balance and almost hit the pavement. I was lucky enough to be saved by a stranger, a scarred man who seemed drunk but not dangerous.

He was trying to hide because he had just killed a poor young girl, his ex-girlfriend. Taking me to his hiding place, I saw his girlfriend’s dead body. He had smashed her head with a heavy tool and she was in a pool of b***d, her face unrecognisable. I threw up at the sight of her and tried to hide the fear that her dead body had engraved in my heart.

“Don’t be afraid. I won’t hurt you,” the man whispered in a trembling voice. I just need to figure out what to do with her body.”

And then it hit me. I still couldn’t believe my good luck. That psychopath was my saviour. “I can help you if you let me,” I whispered, and gave him my identity.

“Why don’t you move her body to the place you rescued me tonight? I need to disappear for personal reasons. If you use my identity and put a few of my belongings next to her body, the police would think it’s me,” I suggested, and he looked at me in disbelief.

“Don’t look at me like that. You saved my life and I owe you one,” I replied, unable to believe my actions.

And that was how everyone found out that Teresa Luigi had committed suicide and I disappeared from the face of the earth.

I continued to live my life as a night butterfly, replaceing sugar daddies who supported me throughout the years but never forgot to take revenge on Maurizio for destroying my life.

And now my sleazy friend called to tell me that Massimo’s scout warriors had ruined our plans. They discovered Maurizio’s car in the woods and got him out before it exploded. That cunning old fox had survived the accident.

And Massimo was back in Italy. I had to stay alert and watch their movements before planning my next attack.

The door opened, and my friend entered the house.

“Teresa? Are you home?” He asked and closed the door behind him.

“In the kitchen, baby,” I replied.
