Blake

I had been following Massimo from afar and my suspicions were correct. He was secretly going to the motel where Natalia and Elisa were. The question was why he was heading that way. Was it for Elisa or my wife?

Aries wanted to catch up with Onyx and tear him apart and I had a hard time persuading him not to. Killing Onyx would be the easiest way to get rid of him and keep Natalia for me. I didn’t want to sink so low in my wife’s eyes. I wanted to know what Natalia’s reaction would be. Deep down in my heart, I had the vague hope that her feelings for me would overcome the bond she had with Massimo.

We arrived near town and Massimo hid in an alley and shifted back to his human form. Wearing a pair of sports pants and a t-shirt he proceeded towards the motel entrance. He was quite bold to enter, not caring if Teresa was at the reception desk.

I followed his example and headed to the same place he had shifted. Wearing a similar outfit, I followed him into the motel from a distance. The reception was empty when Massimo passed by, but he continued his route, non even sparing a moment to glance around. How the hell did he know where to go?

And then realisation hit me. He had been following Natalia’s scent. He was her fated mate and he could distinguish her scent from so many others. I suppressed my desire to growl and attack him from behind and followed him all the way, keeping my distance.

Hiding in a corner, I saw him standing outside a door. He was hesitant. He attempted to ring the bell several times and then pulled his hand back. When he finally pressed the bell, I heard my wife’s voice coming from the open door.

I was ready to rush over and make my presence known when I felt someone pulling me back with force. I looked back and saw Drake. Signalling me to stay quiet he led me to the room next to Natalia’s. We entered and I realised it was his place.

Elisabeth had been sitting on the sofa and the moment she saw me she choked on the water she had been drinking. Drake rushed to her and patted her back to ease her breathing.

I watched apathetically while her face paled and then flushed with embarrassment. She averted her eyes from me, not sure how I would react. I could sense her fear and restlessness but Elisabeth was the least of my concerns. All I could think of was Natalia in the other room with Massimo and I didn’t know what was happening between them. I looked at my brother who turned to me after taking care of his wife.

“What the hell is happening tonight, Blake? First Natalia and her friend and now you and that guy. What if Teresa sees any of you? Are you all out of your f*g minds? Jeopardising our plan like this is crazy.” His voice was low but tense.

“What? Natalia is here?” Elisabeth asked, her eyes wide open but neither of us replied to her.

“f**k off, Drake. Who the hell do you think you are to question me?” I said through gritted teeth, watching my brother’s face.

“Our wives’ safety is at stake, Blake. We are in this together, remember? So don’t bullshit me and tell me why everyone gathered at the motel tonight, not following the plan. We barely talked about it today, and now this,” Drake scowled.

“Something unexpected happened and we had to put the plan in action sooner. Didn’t Natalia inform you?” I replied mechanically but my mind was in the room next door.

“Can someone tell me what’s going on? Drake?” Elizabeth cut in.

“I will explain later, sweetie,” my brother replied.

I could sense Natalia’s agitation. No matter what, she was still my chosen mate and I could sense her discomfort. I ignored Drake and Elisabeth and focused on what was happening in the other room. Elisa had been crying. I couldn’t stay in Drake’s room any longer. I needed air.

Not giving it a second thought, I opened the balcony door and stepped outside. Looking at the room next door, I noticed that one of the doors was open.

I entered quietly and startled a crying Elisa. She had been standing at the entrance and was listening to Natalia and Massimo talk.

“Massimo, I love…” I heard Natalia say and not waiting for her to finish I barged into the room.

I heard Massimo’s voice in the room and I knew he came to talk to Natalia. It hurt me to hear that he didn’t want to talk to me. I never expected him to change his mind because of his bond with Natalia.

Feeling insecure and vulnerable, I eavesdropped on their conversation. I knew it would hurt me to listen to them confess to each other but I wanted to know what they said firsthand.

I never expected Massimo to confess his love for me to Natalia. This time he controlled his emotions and he was politely talking to my friend. Nothing revealed the bond they shared between them. Their current behaviour was completely different to when they first met at Blake’s pack.

My eyes filled with tears when Massimo declared his love for me and told Natalia he would not abandon me and our baby. I wanted to rush into the room and hide in his arms, seeking warmth for my frozen heart, but a sudden visitor startled me. Blake was in my room and signalled me to be quiet. He was pretty upset and had a frightening glare. I didn’t get to tell him what I heard, and he rushed into the room before I could stop him. I watched with horror as he approached Massimo and Natalia.

Things were going to get messy again.

Natalia

I was sitting in the living room pondering Elisa’s reaction and trying to figure out how to proceed with Massimo. I had to talk to him and persuade him to reject me. And I needed a final talk with my wolf before doing so.

“Leia I know that the Moon Goddess blessed us with a mate that would accompany us for the rest of our lives. At least most of the time. And Massimo seems like a nice guy. The bond between us is too strong to deny. But I am deeply in love with Blake. Just the thought of choosing Massimo over my husband breaks my heart. Blake and I have been through a lot to get to where we are now. The Moon Goddess chose a bond for me, but I can’t erase my feelings for my husband. I don’t wish to disrespect our Goddess, Aria, but I have a baby with Blake and I intend to create a happy family with him. I will not abandon my husband. Period .”

“I know, Nat. I can’t believe I allowed myself to react that way. I am a powerful wolf and I should be able to control my feelings. I will never forgive myself for hurting Blake and Aries like this. We need to think about how to contact Massimo and speak to him,” my wolf replied.

I closed my eyes and without realising it, I fell asleep. I woke up to the sound of the doorbell and walked to the door. It was probably Drake checking up on us. I checked through the peephole and saw Massimo standing there.

“Massimo?” I asked as I opened the door and he nervously ran his fingers through his messy hair.

“Hello, Natalia. May I come in? We need to talk,” he said.

“Sure, come in. Let me call Elisa. She is sleeping” I replied and turned to leave. Massimo gripped my hand and I felt the sparks jolting up my entire body, making me jump with uneasiness.

s**t! That was awkward. Creepy. I was a married, mated she-wolf and touching this man who was my destined mate all I wanted to do was jump on him and devour him.

Massimo pulled his hand back as if burned by fire. He looked the other way and cleared his voice.

“No need to call Elisa, Natalia. I am here for you. We need to sort out the mess before involving Elisa or Blake in it,” Massimo replied.

He walked away from me and stood by the window, looking out.

“Blake doesn’t know I am here tonight. I thought it was best for us to meet alone. And it’s best if we don’t wake Elisa up” he said in a low voice.

“I know how stressful this must be for you, Natalia. I feel the same way. I cannot deny the bond between us and I do not want to insult our Moon Goddess. But this is crazy. You are my partner’s wife and you are expecting his pup. And Elisa is expecting my baby, Natalia. I don’t know how, but I fell in love with her in such a short time. And I can’t abandon her and my baby. I can’t do that.

Everything that happened before got us all in a tight spot. For the first time in my life I should be thankful and happy but all I can think about is how miserable my life became. No offence, Natalia. If it was any other time I would be over the moon to have a mate like you. Blake and Fabrizio have told me so much about you and I admire your courage and strength.”

Talk about awkwardness. Having your mate praising you, knowing that he will reject you afterwards. But that was what I wanted, wasn’t it?

“Massimo, I can understand how you feel. I feel the same way about Blake. We went through hell and high water to be together and I can never forgive myself for reacting that way when I met you. My wolf, Leia, could not control her emotions and your wolf made things worse. We hurt the people we love and I don’t know how to redeem myself for my actions.

I have thought about it and I intended to contact you. We should reject each other and continue our lives. Because I am in love with…”

A growl came from Lisa’s room, startling me and I didn’t get to finish my sentence. I looked that way and saw Blake coming out from Elisa’s room all flustered, eyes full of rage.

“Blake, what are you doing here?” I asked him.

“Apparently watching you express your love to Massimo, Nat. You just said that you loved him. Was it so easy for you to forget what you told me a few hours ago?” He sounded hurt and disappointed.

“Blake,” Massimo said and Blake growled loud enough to wake up the whole motel.

“Shut up, a*****e. How dare you sneak out of my house and come replace my wife? Are you seeking death?”

Holy s**t! Blake had lost it. We would make our presence known and we would mess everything up.
