Luna's Rejected Vengeful Mate -
Luna’s Rejected Vengeful Mate Chapter 88
The Midnight Shifters pack, Italy
Elisa
I drifted into a deep slumber and a strange dream. The scent of wildflowers surrounded me as I walked among them. I was in a green valley filled with a riot of colourful flowers. Where the heck was I? And why were my feet bare?
I followed the path and reached a small wooden cabin. It seemed deserted so I pushed the door open and entered. The place was neat and tidy and there was a freshly cooked meal set out on the table. Was someone waiting for me?
My stomach growled; when last had I eaten? Since no one was around, I took the liberty, sat at the table and helped myself. Everything was so tasty; I couldn’t stop eating and lost myself in the delicious flavours.
Suddenly the sound of something breaking outside made me jump from my seat. I left the table and rushed towards the sound. Still, there was no one waiting outside and there was nothing broken either.
I shivered, was someone trying to play tricks on me? I ran, leaving the cabin behind me. I ran holding my swollen bump, surprised at my speed. Being pregnant was certainly not holding me back. I ran like the wind and reached a river. I looked around and still I was alone.
I shivered again. The feeling of being watched made me uneasy. Who was out there? And why was he or she hiding from me? I looked for a safe place to hide and noticed a small cave by the river bend, surrounded by thick bushes. I rushed over and, lowering my head, I entered the cave and hid inside.
My heart raced in my chest and my breathing was uneven. Where was Massimo? How did I end up in such a creepy situation? How was I supposed to get away and back to Massimo?
I sat on the ground, my back against the hard wall. I had to stay calm and think of a way to escape. I closed my eyes, exhausted from running for so long and fell asleep without realising it.
“Why are you so afraid of me?” a low voice inside my head made me stir in my sleep and my hands protected my belly automatically. I opened my eyes and closed them again.
“Elisa, you need to relax. If you keep resisting we won’t be able to meet,” the voice continued.
“Meet? Who are you? What do you mean by that?” I asked, totally confused, still not opening my eyes.
“Weren’t you expecting me, Elisa?” The soft gentle voice was now teasing and playful, easing my anxiety. That person seemed to know me so why would I be afraid?
“Do we know each other?” I asked, feeling more confident. Was this some kind of joke Massimo was playing on me? Was he trying to scare me? But Onyx had already bitten me so there was no going back.
“If you stop and think clearly, you will understand who I am, Elisa. You said it yourself right now. There is no going back,” the voice whispered and I felt a chill run down my spine.
I heard someone and the sound of dry rustling leaves on the ground near the cave entrance. They had found me. My heart thumped inside my chest and I feared they would hear it. I held my tummy and pulled my legs closer to the rest of my body as I felt someone poking me and hot breath caressing my bare hands.
“Don’t be afraid to open your eyes, sweetie.” The voice in my mind encouraged me and promised I would be pleasantly surprised. Taking a deep breath, I opened my eyes and came face to face with the most beautiful grey wolf. Its dark blue eyes were mesmerising and drew me in.
“There you go, Elisa. We finally meet,” the voice said and it surprised me to see the grey wolf nudge me.
“You are…”
“I am Lina, your wolf. I tried getting close to you at the cabin but startled you instead. I didn’t want to scare you. That would be bad for our pup. So I followed you from a distance trying to replace the opportunity to come to you,” the wolf said, leaving me dumbfounded.

I drifted into a deep slumber and a strange dream. The scent of wildflowers surrounded me as I walked among them. I was in a green valley filled with a riot of colourful flowers. Where the heck was I? And why were my feet bare?
“My wolf? Are you my wolf? So, Onyx’s bite really turned me into a werewolf?” I whispered, surprised that it had actually happened, because somewhere deep in my heart I thought it would be impossible.
“Yes, I am Lina, your wolf. It took a lot of effort to wake up. I used to be a deceased Luna’s wolf and our Moon Goddess felt sorry for me when the Luna died in battle. Before the Luna I belonged to took her last breath, our Goddess took me up into the sky and put me into a deep slumber. That sleep would heal my wounds and my broken heart. She promised me a second chance on earth. You see, the Luna was very young and I didn’t have the chance to develop my skills as her wolf.”
“Skills?” I asked, confused and a spark lit Lina’s eyes.
“I am not a simple wolf, Elisa. These dark blue eyes can freeze my opponent and if I want I can break him into pieces without having to use my claws or canines,” Lina bragged and I had no reason not to believe her. She looked proud. She stared straight into my eyes with her head high and a powerful stance.
“Are you telling me that I was lucky enough to be given a wolf with such special talents?” I asked carefully, trying not to insult her.
“Because your mate is a powerful Alpha, Elisa. And you chose to become one of us, which is a great honour for our Goddess. She wanted to thank you for that. And here I am,” Lina said playfully, wagging her tail, and licking my fingers.
It tickled and I giggled, ruffling the fur behind her ears.
“Lina, you are really something special,” I smiled.
“Elisa, baby are you listening to me?” Massimo’s voice came from afar and I looked around trying to see where he was.
“Massimo?” I called his name but my voice came out as a whisper.
“Baby, are you awake? Can you please open your eyes for me?” I heard Massimo’s voice near me.
Open my eyes? Wake up? But I was already awake. What was Massimo talking about?
“Massimo, is she okay?” Was that Fabrizio’s voice? Where was I?
“Yes, the fever went down. She is talking in her sleep. Do you know anyone called Lina?” I heard Massimo ask.
“She is my wolf,” I whispered and opened my eyes. Massimo was holding my hand wiping sweat from my face.
“Baby, you are finally awake,” he smiled at me but his eyes were full of concern.
“Where is Lina?” I asked and Massimo looked confused.
“Who is Lina, sweetie? There is no one but me and Fabrizio here. You’ve been out with a high fever for two days after Onyx bit you. You were probably dreaming,” Massimo said calmly but I shook my head.
“No. Lina is my wolf, Massimo. I have a grey wolf with dark blue eyes,” I smiled at him and Massimo was stunned.
“So soon? Your wolf appeared so soon?” he whispered in disbelief and I nodded.
“Yes. I met her by a river. I didn’t know I was unconscious then. It seemed so real to me,” I confessed, still confused by the sudden change of scenery.
Massimo kept staring and suddenly I heard Lina’s aggressive voice inside my head, making me jump in surprise.
“Don’t tell me he is our mate and still doesn’t believe you, Elisa. What about his wolf? Is his wolf so dumb not to realise you have a wolf?” she asked.
“You scared the s**t out of me, Lina. I am not quite used to you yet and you pop up inside my head like that. Are you trying to give me a heart attack?” I whispered to myself and Massimo held my hand tighter.
“Has your wolf spoken to you?” he asked, flushed with excitement.
“She has,” I confirmed and Massimo gulped.
“What did she say?” he continued questioning.
“That Onyx must be stupid for not realising I have a wolf,” I giggled and Massimo’s eyes changed colour. Onyx was upset.
“How dare you? I was taking a nap after being awake so many nights,” Onyx growled through Massimo’s mouth, startling me.
How did he do that?
“I will explain later, Elisa. Now I have to meet your ignorant wolf,” Onyx replied angrily, confusing me even more.
“Don’t say that big boy. I just wanted to meet you and you weren’t here. I added some salty attitude to make you come to your senses,” Lina purred through me, leaving Onyx speechless. I smiled cheekily at Massimo, whose eyes were half-closed. He was trying to hold back his laughter.
“You called me stupid,” Onyx was still upset but Lina didn’t seem to care.
“I got your attention, didn’t I?” Lina giggled and Massimo couldn’t hold on any longer. He started laughing and I followed.
“These two will make an awesome couple. I’ve never met anyone who could leave Onyx speechless,” Massimo said between laughter and I felt proud of my wolf.
“That’s my girl,” I thought and Lina chuckled.
“All you have to do is address me through your thoughts, Elisa. I will hear your every word,” she said.
“Elisa, how are you feeling?” Massimo stopped paying attention to our wolves and turned to me.
“I am okay I guess. I want to sit up,” I replied and Massimo helped me up, gave me a glass of water and smiled.
“Now that our wolves have met, we should proceed with the wedding and our mating ceremony,” he announced.
“So fast?” I didn’t see that coming.
“There is no reason for us to stall any longer, baby. We will mark each other and get married on the same day. That way we can mind-link and our wolves can talk through the link, too. There’s no need for the others to hear their bickering,” Massimo said with a smirk.
A week later I was standing next to Massimo in a long white dress. We had just finished our wedding vows and the elder had pronounced us husband and wife. My parents attended the wedding. It was hard convincing them at first, but seeing how happy I was with Massimo, they accepted my decision.
Everyone around us, including my parents, Luna Alison, Dylan, Natalia and Blake, Elisabeth and Drake cheered for us. Massimo gave me a soft k**s on the forehead before whispering to me.
“Are you ready to allow Lina to mark me, sweetheart?”
I looked into his eyes. smiled and nodded.
Massimo allowed Onyx to step forward. His tongue travelled to my marking spot, a few centimetres further from where he bit me in the first place. His canines appeared, and he sank them into my sensitive skin, holding me tightly in his arms. I ignored the pain and allowed Lina to take the lead. She followed Onyx and sank her canines into Massimo’s dark skin.
“You are mine now sweetheart and no one can take you away from me,” Massimo’s hoarse voice rang inside my head, filling me with happiness.
And that was just the beginning. Two months later, our baby boy came into our lives. He was a chubby little man who got his looks from his father. Another heartbreaker, I thought, holding my son, Angelo, in my arms for the first time as I rested my head on Massimo’s broad chest.
Memories of the way Massimo and I met and the ensuing drama flitted through my mind. It hadn’t been easy, but the love surrounding our little family and my amazing wolf, made it all worthwhile. There wasn’t anywhere else I’d rather be.
