Man With Super Medical Skill (Matthew)
Chapter 3257 A Reluctant Compromise

Rocco's steely gaze locked onto Maurice, his voice resonating with determination. "The Gloam Division can acknowledge Matthew Larson's innocence, but we will not apologize to him. That's our bottom line."

Unfazed by Rocco's brusque demeanor, Maurice replied with a hint of reproach, "Commander Rocco, interrupting someone while they speak is not gentlemanly behavior. While I won't dismiss your words, I must remind you of a crucial fact. We don't care whether you agree." He paused, letting his words sink in before continuing, "Furthermore, Mr. Larson is actually on very good terms with His Majesty King Gadel, though he has never mentioned it."

His piercing gaze remained fixed on Rocco, his expression unreadable. The truth hung heavy in the air between them. The Gloam Division could refuse their conditions, but they'd better be prepared for a financial drought in three days.

The organization was walking on thin ice, and Maurice knew Rocco would have no choice but to hear him out.

"I apologize for my rudeness. Please, continue."

As expected, Rocco eventually let Maurice continue.

He could not afford the consequences of having no funds in a few days. The hungry wolves of the Gloam Division would turn on their seemingly incompetent commander before the end. So, despite his reluctance, he had to agree to the terms.

The earlier interruption was merely a probe of the Seraphis Great Commercial Union's limits. What Rocco hadn't anticipated was how firm those limits were.

"Our third condition," Maurice continued, his tone brooking no argument, "is the immediate withdrawal of all forces surrounding Thorneville and the full restoration of water and electricity services. Fourth, we'll provide 60% of your original monthly funding upon fulfilling these conditions."

Rocco's composure shattered. He slammed his fist on the table, rising to his feet. "Everything else is acceptable, but that last condition is outrageous!"

Once 7 million, the funding would now be reduced to just 4.2 million. Such a drastic cut would surely lead to turmoil within the ranks.

Maurice remained impassive, placing a document on Rocco's desk. "Commander Rocco, you should know that I am not here to negotiate but to present our terms directly."

With a crisp bow, he turned to leave.

Rocco stared at the paper, his mind racing. This wasn't a contract; this paper had become his existential dilemma.

Should he sign, publicly declare

Matthew Larson's innocence, apologize, and cancel several

arrangements? In return, he woulet

receive only 60% of the original funding, stabilize the Gloam Wing Secret Service, and regain control. Opshould he flee, abandoning years

of effort?

For a fleeting moment, Rocco considered running-saving his skin, but the thought of abandoning years of hard work and ambition was too bitter to swallow.

"So be it," he muttered, recalling an

old Cathay proverb. "There's wisdom

in 'enduring present hardships

ensure future success.' Today, this is my hardship to bear."

With a heavy heart, Rocco signed the document and pressed his bloodied thumb to the paper. He raced after Maurice, catching him at the headquarters' entrance.

"I've agreed to your terms," Rocco announced, his voice tight. "Everything will be done within two days. I expect the funds on the third."

Maurice nodded solemnly. "You have my word, Commander. We will keep our promise."

As his car sped away from the Gloam Wing headquarters, Maurice finally allowed himself to relax. His hand trembled slightly as he clutched his chest, muttering under his breath, "D*mn it, that was really terrifying. I'll never deal with such a risky assignment again."
