Man With Super Medical Skill (Matthew) -
Chapter 3340 The Ultimate Gamble
Glaucus fell silent as he stared at Calbhach. Even though anger bubbled inside him, confronting Calbhach felt like striking a wall of fluff. He glanced around at the heads of the different families in the room, and tiredness crept onto his face.
"Alright, folks. We're down to our last option," he stated, his voice heavy with reluctance.
His mind raced. I wouldn't even think about it if it weren't for our stalemate. Matthew's got control over the staff and One, and now he's got the intruders Calbhach sent, too. All the dirt that could land me and the others in serious trouble is safely in his hands. I'm cornered with no way out.
Feeling the weight of the situation, Glaucus made his choice. He looked out toward the rear hills of the Mirren Estate, where Pontus, the family head, was holed up. Before retreating into isolation, Pontus had informed Glaucus that they could go to the tunnel behind the estate to replace him if a serious issue arose with the Mirren Family or the Martial League.
Now, the situation was spiraling out of Glaucus' control.
"I'm going to the rear hills to wake Pontus. This is our only shot," he declared. He paused momentarily, then continued, "Before I go, I expect all of you to stay put. Don't move even if Matthew barges in and holds a blade to your throat!"
With that, Glaucus stepped into the pouring rain, leaving his umbrella behind. The downpour soaked him to the skin. The heads of all families exchanged worried looks but ultimately chose to follow Glaucus' orders and stayed seated.
...
Despite the rain, Dewsbury had its vibe. The air was crisper than usual, though it carried an unsettling tension. Kids who usually played outside were called in by their parents.
A contingent marched down
Cobblestone Lane, dressed in
aats, at their sides, and
firearms covered in protective fabric slung across their backs. The big logo on their uniforms made it clear-they were from the Martial League.
They marched steadily through the relentless rain, heading straight for the Mirren Estate.
Each road surrounding the estate was lined with Martial League members in raincoats. The Mirren Estate was effectively encircled, creating an undeniable sense of urgency.
As the Martial League members
arrived, the atmosphere thickened with tension Inside the Mirren Estate, panic spread like wildfire. Everyone could see the members standing tall outside the ancestral home, swords at their sides. Just their presence alone unleashed a tidal wave of pressure, crashing down like an impending storm.
The rain came down harder, adding to the mounting tension, leaving no one in the Mirren Family calm.
Finally, Glaucus' granduncle and the oldest member of the Mirren Family, Smith Mirren, stumbled out of a room. His brother had previously led the family and was the grandpa of both Pontus and Glaucus. With the assistance of the maids, Smith slowly made his way to the central courtyard.
Since his brother's death, Smith had stepped back from family matters. With Glaucus missing, the Mirren Family found itself adrift. In their urgency, everyone turned to Smith, the oldest family member. "Where's Glaucus?" Smith asked, his voice deep and anxious as he looked at Barnaby beside him.
Barnaby, just as confused, shook his head. "Great-grandpa Smith, I have no idea where Dad went."
