Married On Paper To The Billionaire -
Chapter 59: The Boogeyman
"We will have the mansion under a one-week surveillance to see if the stalker will show up again," said the police officer, Gary Wesley. "so, have no fear, Mrs Beaumont. If he shows up again, we will catch him and arrest him." "That's very reassuring, thank you." Said Emilia.
"If the stalker isn't caught this week, will you extend your surveillance by another week?" Kane wanted to know.
"Let's see how this week goes first but I am confident that we will catch the stalker if he shows up again," said Officer Wesley.
"Fair enough. Thank you for your time."
After the policeman left, Kane joined Emilia in the sunroom where she was brooding alone.
"Don't worry, my love. You're safe with me," he said softly. "and if the police can't protect us, nobody else can."
"I'm just trying to figure out who could be playing this prank on me. What if it's Matt?"
"Who? The Wyoming guy?"
"Yes."
"I don't think so. Why would he leave his job and family to come here and leave dumb notes for you?"
"I know, but -"
"I don't think he's the one. After that damning interview, his parents did about him, he'd very stupid to try something like this."
"I guess you're right. Matt wouldn't do this. He's not that kind of person."
"Ah, well... anyway, there's something I wanted to discuss with you." "What's that?"
"I know I promised to stay close to you and the kids these days especially now with this stalker issue, but there's this multimillion-dollar merger that my acquisition team and I have been working on for months." "What about it?"
"Well, it fell through and I have to travel to Qatar next week for the official contract signing and all the other fanfare that comes with it."
"Oh, that's great news! Congratulations, darling."
"Thank you. I wish I could outsource this part of the deal but my presence is required there. I'm meeting with the big guns and some delegates from the Emirati royal family will be there. I can't stand them up." "Of course, not. You have to go. Please, don't worry about me or the kids. We'll be fine."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, Kane, I'm sure."
"Why don't you come with me?"
"And the twins?"
"They can come too."
"And Crystabel?"
"Sure, let's take the entire Beaumont clan with us."
Emilia laughed. "Crystabel has become very attached to Travis and Tiara. They're the three musketeers of the Beaumont family."
"That's adorable."
"Anyway, don't worry about us. You should go on this trip alone and come back home as soon as your contract signing is over. Do we have a deal?"
"Yes, we do," he said and kissed her.

The week passed without any more visits from the unknown stalker which everyone in the family now referred to as the Boogeyman. On the morning of Kane's trip, Emilia received a phone call from her mother, telling her that her father was ill and in the hospital.
"I have to go and see him," she announced to Kane.
"Of course," he said without hesitation. "I'll assign two bodyguards to go with you."
"Is that really necessary? The stalker seems to have given up."
"Maybe, but I'm not leaving anything to chance," he said briskly and checked his wristwatch. "I have to get going right away or we might arrive later than scheduled."
"Go ahead then. Call me when you get there."
They kissed tenderly and Kane whispered, "Stay safe," over her lips before dashing out.
Emilia called her children's nannies and left strict instructions with them to never let the twins out of their sight. Then she informed Elsie and Lillian of her outing.
"Oh, dear. Would you like me to go with you?" Lillian asked compassionately.
"No, thank you. It's probably nothing serious. My mother tends to get hysterical even over the smallest things."
"Please, call us when you get to the hospital and let us know how he's doing," said Elsie.
"Yes, Mother."
"Let us know if there's any way we can help," Lillian added.
Emilia was thankful to her in-laws for their kindness. After all the difficult hurdles she has scaled with them in the past, they have now welcomed her fully into the fold and have her back completely.
As Kane had instructed, she was driven out of the Beaumont estate in a Range Rover with tinted windows and two bodyguards riding with her aside from the driver.
She wasn't sure if this level of security was required but she couldn't deny how extra safe she felt nonetheless. As the journey progressed, her phone rang and it was an unknown number calling her. Her heart skipped a beat. Was it the stalker calling her? How did he get her number? Did he know that Kane had just traveled out of town?
The questions buzzed around inside her head until she couldn't stand them anymore. She swiped the phone screen and answered the call. "Hello?"
"Hey, Emilia. How are you?"
"Chad?"
"Yes, babe. It's me."
"So, you're the one after all. Why would you do such a thing? I thought I made myself clear to you in St. Barths?"
"And that's exactly why I'm calling you, Emilia. I haven't stopped thinking about you since that encounter on the beach."
"Gosh, I can't believe you. Never in a million years would I imagine that you would pull such a stunt on me. I mean, sending letters to my matrimonial home! Really?" "What?"
"Why did you do that? You had me thinking you were some sort of random stalker, following me around. What sort of childish game is that?"
"Wait, I'm confused now. What are you talking about?"
"I'm talking about those sappy love notes you've been sending to me. I even sent you an email to warn you to stop but you didn't."

"I got your email and I assumed what you wrote there was just to get my attention. I thought you were just looking for an excuse to talk to me, like maybe you were thinking about me too." "Don't be ridiculous. Why would I be thinking about you?"
"Has someone been stalking you?"
"Yes, you!"
Chad chuckled. "That's impossible, Emilia. I'm in Vancouver. I just saw your email a few minutes ago and decided to call you to let you know that I've been thinking about you too." "Hold on, are you saying you're not the one sending me those notes?"
"Yes, Emilia. That's precisely what I'm saying. I've been filming in the wild for several days. We just came to town to catch up on some correspondence from our sponsors." "Oh..."
"I'll be in the U.S. in a couple of days. Wanna meet up?"
"Seriously, Chad, this isn't funny anymore. I don't want to see you or hear from you. I am happily married and I love my husband. Goodbye!"
She hung up on him and blocked his number immediately. The audacity!
"We're here, ma'am," the driver announced as the vehicle pulled up in front of the hospital.
"Great. Thank you," she said and waited for one of the bodyguards to open the door for her.
She wanted to go in alone but they insisted on following her. Once inside the hospital, she hurried to the reception where she was briskly attended to and shown the way to her father's room. "Please, wait here,” she told her bodyguards before going inside.
Her mother and sister were there and her father was laughing at something one of them had said. When he saw her, he beamed even more.
"I thought they said you were dying," she said and leaned down to hug him. "you don't look like a dying man."
"That's because I'm not," he said with a laugh.
"Don't listen to him. He had a mini stroke this morning," said Lara.
"Oh, dear, Daddy!" Emilia exclaimed. "Are you ok?"
"Don't worry, he'll live," Chloe said.
"I'm fine. Matter of fact, I've been discharged and we'll be heading home in a few minutes," he said. "there's nothing to worry about." "Daddy, I think it's time for you to slow down. You're working too hard with the restaurants."
"Now, you're sounding like your mother," he grumbled.
"Seriously, Andrew, didn't you hear anything the doctor said? You must take a break from work," Lara insisted. "Fine, fine. I don't need three women harping on me for the same reason. I lay off work for a week," he said. "A month, Daddy," Emilia said firmly.
"How about retirement?" Chloe joked.
"Heavens forbid!" Andrew exclaimed. "I'm not that old."
There was a knock on the door and a nurse came in with Andrew's clothes and a wheelchair.
"Oh, it's a full house," she joked. "are you ready to go home, Mr Taylor?"

"We'll wait outside," Emilia said and left the room with Chloe so that their dad could get dressed with the help of the nurse and their mother.
"Ooh, who are these?" Chloe asked when she saw the bodyguards waiting outside the room.
"Kane insisted they came with me," Emilia explained. "He was afraid that the boogeyman stalker might jump me if I go out alone."
"I'm not mad at that. Any clue on who it might be?"
"I thought it was Chad but it's not him. And... it can't be Matt because he's way over there in Wyoming living his country life." "He's probably gotten back together with Mary."
"Molly."
"Whatever."
The door to their father's room opened and the nurse wheeled him out while their mother followed behind. They walked out of the hospital as a group, accompanied by Emilia's bodyguards.
Her family piled into their Ford SUV, while Emilia rode in her Range Rover and followed them home. When they arrived, she instructed the bodyguards to wait for her in the car while she went in with her family.
"It feels good to be back home," Andrew sighed as he let his wife lead him to a couch in the sitting room.
"This is where you'll be for the next three weeks at least," Emilia told him.
"I thought we agreed on two weeks?" He asked.
"I said one month," said Lara.
"Three weeks is fine. Anything longer than that will turn him into a grumpy old man," said Chloe.
"It's settled then. You're taking a three-week break from work," Emilia informed him.
Andrew was about to speak again when they heard a noise from the kitchen. It sounded like glass breaking and wood splitting.
"What the heck is that?" Lara gasped.
"Is there someone else in the house?" Emilia asked them.
"No. Today is the maid's day off and we didn't leave anyone in the house when we left earlier," said Chloe.
Everyone was suddenly jittery. Did someone just break into the house or was that just the sound of poorly arranged dishes falling down?
Unable to endure the suspense, Emilia headed towards the kitchen.
"Don't go there," her mother said nervously. "we should probably call one of the bodyguards to come in and check it out for us."
"Don't be silly, Mom. It's probably just some dishes falling over," she replied confidently and continued her walk to the kitchen.
As soon as she stepped in, her breath ceased when she came face to face with Matt, standing beside the broken window and holding a gun in front of him.
"I was hoping you'd show up," he said with a grin that didn't reach his eyes.
"What are you doing here?" She asked shakily.
"I came for you, Emilia, my love."
"What?"
He waved the gun at her and said, "Come over here, baby. It's time for us to ride into the sunset together."
