"Too much? What do you even mean by that? Explain it to me," he said, his voice laced with mock curiosity.

King realized he had a knack for getting under women's skin. Just a few words and they were often left speechless with rage. The more upset they got, the more entertained he felt.

Brielle was experiencing her first trip abroad. She had always been so careful around the Haywood family, living as if she was walking on eggshells to avoid displeasing anyone. She was, as King mockingly pointed out, the perfect student-rigid, rule-abiding, never straying off the path.

Maybe there was a moment at Beaconsfield College when she thought about stepping out of line, but she quickly corrected herself. Now, faced with this situation abroad, she was utterly unprepared. How could a bookworm like her possibly stand up to someone like him? She was left speechless.

King found her struggle amusing. The more defiant she became, the more intriguing she was to him. When he first saw her, she had this icy demeanor, like a flower perched high on a branch, unattainable. Now, that facade was starting to crack. "Why so quiet, Ms. Perfect? Thinking of calling the cops? Have you thought about the consequences?"

At this point, Brielle was too young, too inexperienced, easily provoked by his taunts. But she knew that engaging with him would only make things worse. She turned to face the wall, her voice softening into a plea. "Max, please, don't do this."

King stiffened, then chuckled. "So, you do remember my name."

A wave of unspoken joy washed over him. She was becoming more appealing by the second. Pulling her close, he suggested, "An exchange student, huh? How about attending your classes online from now on? Spend the rest of your time with me." Brielle's heart skipped a beat. She tried to stay calm and even attempted to dial for help with one hand, but King quickly seized her hand and snatched her phone away. He held her tight, nibbling at her neck.

"Come with me, I'll give you whatever you want."

He was relieved that Max hadn't interfered at this point. If Max had woken up to replace himself holding a woman, it might have spelled the end for her. Max was unromantic, unlike him.

Brielle remained silent, realizing she was no match for him.

"Max, I'm Brielle, Spencer's fiancée," she tried to reason with him, but King merely raised an eyebrow and chuckled softly.

"Ah, is that so? Makes it even more interesting."

The bastard. Pervert. Brielle cursed internally, both angry and powerless. A pain shot through the back of her neck, and her world went dark. She passed out.

When she woke up, she was in a

lofty castle, isolated from the rest of

the world, unable to escape. Her clothes had been changed, leaving her feeling uncomfortable all over. She tried to reach out to the outside world, but it was futile; she'd been cut off from any communication.

He was serious, intent on keeping her in this luxurious cage. What Brielle despised most was being diverted from her chosen path against her will. Yet, she was puzzled. Why had Max changed so drastically? Wasn't he supposed to be aloof and distant, disliking the company of women? It made no

sense to her.

As she pondered, the door opened. King entered, holding a mask, a chill surrounding him. Yet, upon seeing her, a smile curled on his lips.

"Little Canary, come here."

These past few days, he hadn't

called her by her name, seemingly pleased with this new nickname. Every time Brielle heard footsteps outside, she wished she could just hide away. But the room's lavish decor left no room for concealment, not even the wardrobe.

He drew her close, inhaling deeply as if she were the most fascinating creature, before finally letting go.

"Missed me these past few days? Angry?"

It was all Max's fault, waking up suddenly and nearly blowing his cover. Thankfully, he managed to keep his secret, with Max still oblivious to his existence. Holding her in his arms, he felt utterly content.

By now, Brielle had figured him out; his moods were as changeable as the weather, and he could be downright eerie. But as long as she played along, he remained placated.
