Mr. Webb Make Your Move! by Tammy Chapter 10
Chapter 10
When it was almost time to get off work, Zara popped into the president’s office and dropped off some paperwork. She said, “Mrs. Webb called me at noon, inviting us to dinner tonight. Mr. Webb, it’s been six months since your last visit home.”
Yosef frowned, clearly annoyed. “Are you in touch with my family a lot?”
“Not really,” Zara replied. “It’s Mrs. Webb who always calls me.”
Yosef checked his watch and tossed the car keys her way. “You’re driving. The driver will take Beatrice home.”
Trailing behind him, Zara wanted to ask him something. She opened her mouth, but the words just would not come out.
She was scared of receiving an answer she could already foresee.
At the dining table of the Webbs‘ residence, Mrs. Webb kept serving food to Zara. “Why have you gotten so thin? And your complexion doesn’t seem to be the best either. Are you sick?”
Yosef had always been the stoic and silent type, and it was even more so around his family. Apart from greeting Chairman Webb when he first arrived, he had not said another word.
He watched Zara smoothly handle this pair of people who were his parents on paper. She touched her face with a chuckle, saying, “No, I’m not sick. Maybe the lipstick I chose today just doesn’t suit me. I’ll toss it when I get home.”
Zara was the chief secretary of Azure Cloud. She was good at socializing and could get along with anyone she met. She had Mrs. Webb beaming with joy.
Yosef’s thoughts drifted to what Beatrice had mentioned earlier today. Everyone was smitten with Zara. It was not just the colleagues and clients–even the older folks adored her.
In the last three years, she had woven herself into every aspect of his life, taking care of things whether they were her responsibility or not. Naturally, everyone assumed she would be his bride, and the topic of their wedding had come up more than once.
Yosef could not help but smirk.
As expected, Mrs. Webb steered the conversation back to that topic.
Despite bracing herself for it all afternoon, Zara was still at a loss when the question came. She turned to Yosef as she did not know what to do.
Yosef lifted his glass, took a sip, and said with a voice that lacked warmth, “It’s impossible for the two of us to get married.”

Zara’s hand trembled, and the rib she had picked up fell with a soft clink back onto her plate. Along with the impact, she felt that her heart now bore cracks, just like a broken piece of glass.
For a split second, her heartbeat paused.
Chairman Webb said in a deep voice, “If not Zara, then who? That young secretary of yours? Don’t think I’m blind to the nonsense you’ve been up to at the office!”
“Chairman…” Zara’s first instinct was to smooth things over, just like she always did when
father and son clashed.
This time, however, Yosef’s face was icy, like someone had hit a sore spot. “Dad, you’re always on my case. Let’s not forget the crazy stuff you got up to in your youth. Right, Mrs. Webb?”
Mrs. Webb’s face tensed up. Chairman Webb shot up from his seat, his hand smacking the
table. “Ridiculous!”
Yosef grabbed a tissue and rose from his chair. “I’m done here. I’ll head out.”
Chairman Webb’s face was ashen, and Mrs. Webb quickly handed him a glass of water. “Take it
Ethan. You know your blood pressure is high. Don’t let this upset you.”
easy,
Zara blurted out without thinking, “Mr. Webb had a rough time with clients today. That’s why he’s in a bad mood.”
Chairman Webb was having a headache. “I know all about his temper. No need to make
excuses for him.”
Mrs. Webb chimed in, trying to calm things down, “Yosef’s running a huge company now, and yet you’re still talking to him like he’s a little kid. No wonder he’s upset. Just let it be.”
Then, she turned to Zara. “Sorry to put you in this spot, Zara. Why don’t you go see how Yosef’s doing? There’s a bunch of cars out front. You can just pick one.”
Zara did not actually want to go after him.
After today… No, ever since the miscarriage, she would feel exhausted just from seeing Yosef. She did not want to face him.
In the past, as long as she recalled the memory of their first meeting, it would give her the strength to endure anything.
However, with the Webb parents giving her that expectant look, she just could not say no. She gave a reluctant nod, grabbed the keys from the butler, and hopped into the car to chase after Yosef.
She had not gone far when she spotted Yosef’s car parked by a narrow lane. He was standing. beside the car, smoking a cigarette.
