“Thank you for your kind offer, but I don’t think it’s necessary,” Debra sighed, setting her glass down. “Honestly, whether the Nichols family stays intact or not doesn’t matter much to me.”
She got up and headed toward the door.
Andrew called after her, “I thought you weren’t interested in the funeral.”
“I’ll just take a look.” Debra grabbed a mask and slipped it on.
The funeral for Shelia was grand, and she could blend into the crowd easily.
Andrew turned to Barton. “Give her my invitation.”
“Yes, sir.” Barton pulled the funeral invitation from his pocket and handed it to Debra.
She glanced at it and raised an eyebrow. “Now you can’t deny you’ve planned this.”
Clearly, Andrew had been waiting for this moment.
Without another word, Debra turned and left the house.
Barton spoke. “Sir, it seems Mrs. Houston doesn’t want to spread the rumors.”
“We’ll help her,” Andrew said.
He had anticipated Debra’s disinterest in such things. She wasn’t the type to harm others. She always tried to be accommodating, sometimes to her own detriment.
At the same time, she wouldn’t let herself get taken advantage of, a contradiction Andrew found fascinating.
Marion came downstairs, casually taking the seat Debra had just vacated. He picked up the coffee on the table and asked, “What are you planning this time?”
“It’s not me,” Andrew replied, blowing on his coffee. “Someone else is paving the way for her.
Marion paused mid–sip, his brows furrowing. “Your coffee tastes sour.”
“Sorry,” Andrew said, unfazed, “I accidentally added some vinegar earlier.”
At the cemetery, the scene was somber.
Melody wore a black veil that covered most of her face, her figure wrapped in a black dress. Sophie helped her manage the arrangements.
By the time Debra arrived, the guests had already gathered, and most of the media had left.
Debra’s gaze fell on Shelia’s portrait, but she didn’t feel anything.

Shelia reaped what she sowed.
If she had kept her ambitions in check, she might have had a bright future. With Juan’s support, she could have studied abroad, returned to a decent job in the Nichols Group, and eventually married a good man.
But Shelia wasn’t that kind of person. She was greedy, ruthless, and solely focused on using men to climb the ladder. She had never thought of improving herself.
The moment she murdered her friend to secure Juan’s patronage, her fate was sealed.
While Debra stood silently, she noticed Sophie’s gaze settle on her. She stepped away to a quieter corner.
Sophie followed her over and asked hesitantly, “Madam, is it you?”
Debra removed her mask. “Sophie, I told you before. I’m no longer your lady.”
не
“Sorry, I forgot again,” Sophie stammered. “Mrs. Houston, did you come here specifically for this?”
Debra nodded. “Why didn’t Juan show up?”
“He hasn’t been home in ages,” Sophie replied. “I don’t think he’ll come to this funeral.”
