My Husband -
Chapter 4
Chapter 4
Benjamin found the cremation certificate.
Even so, he still doesn’t believe I’m dead.
“You guys are unbelievable, daring to fake even this kind of news! Faking a cremation certificate is a prison offense!”
Sloane cursed at him, calling him crazy, and then hung up the phone.
Sylvia looked at Benjamin with concern as his face turned dark.
“Does Mirabelle not want to send the child
over?” Upon seeing Sylvia, Benjamin’s expression changed instantly.

But when my name was mentioned, Benjamin’s face darkened again.
“It’s ridiculous to even say it out loud. She’d go as far as faking her own death just to keep me from seeing the child… She even forged a cremation certificate!”
“If I hadn’t asked Dr. Hartwell, I might have fallen for it!”
Sylvia’s expression flickered for a moment, but she quickly adjusted her face to look surprised.
“Why would she do that? Nora is your child, after all!”
I stared at Sylvia intently, I didn’t miss the guilt in her eyes just now.

This woman wasn’t as innocent as Benjamin made her out to be.
She lowered her eyes, tears sliding down her cheeks.
“Is Mirabelle still upset about the heart? It’s all my fault… If I could, I would give the heart back. now.”
Benjamin hugged Sylvia tenderly.
“Don’t talk nonsense. The situation was critical then. Without a heart, you would have died!”
“And to me, you’re more important than anything!”
Their display disgusted me to no end.

Yet Benjamin continued to badmouth me incessantly.
“Besides, I know Mirabelle too well! She’s petty and possessive. Once she gets hold of something, she won’t let go, even if she’s fine herself!”
“With someone as selfish as her, I have to be firm!”
Sylvia leaned into Benjamin’s embrace, softly sighing, “Ben, what would I do without you?”
Benjamin agonized for a long time before finally heading to the hospital. He intended to go straight to my room, but as he stood in the hospital corridor, he suddenly froze.

He didn’t know which room I was in.
In fact, I was in the room next to Sylvia’s, but Benjamin had completely forgotten. Ever since Sylvia and I were hospitalized together, aside from begrudgingly visiting me on the first day, he had spent all his time in Sylvia’s room.
He was busy making nutritious meals for Sylvia, busy taking Ellie Clark to and from school. He left us behind, eating cold leftovers.
Nora was too young for me to trust her with any appliances. Sloane was ill, and taking care of me was already a great burden on her; I didn’t want to add to it.
The three of us–one young, one sick, and one disabled–relied on each other in that tiny hospital room.

Meanwhile, just a wall away, my husband took meticulous care of another woman.
Benjamin wandered around like a headless chicken. After barging into several rooms, someone finally called for a doctor. When Dr. Hartwell arrived, Benjamin was sitting dazed on a nearby chair.
Seeing Dr. Hartwell, Benjamin anxiously
grabbed his arm. “Dr. Hartwell, which room is Mirabelle in?”
Dr. Hartwell hesitated, but looking at Benjamin, he seemed to make a decision.
“Ms. Lewis was transferred to another hospital. She specifically instructed us not to tell
anyone.”

Nonsense!
I was already dead!
You even signed the death certificate!
But Benjamin believed him. He angrily grabbed Dr. Hartwell by the collar. “I’m her husband!
Why wasn’t I informed that Mirabelle was transferred?”
He gritted his teeth, appearing furious.
Dr. Hartwell struggled to breathe as several doctors rushed to pull Benjamin away. They hurriedly took Dr. Hartwell away, leaving Benjamin standing there, lost in thought.
I couldn’t bear to look at him any longer. I
