My Mate Is An Omega
Chapter 42

Lancaster POV

The following days were a lot calmer. After almost two weeks of intensive training, we were all feeling a lot more adjusted to our new roles, which allowed the former Gamma's daughter to solely focus on her Delta duties. Since no other wolf had occupied the position throughout Diamond Tempest's history, we were still learning the ropes as we went. As expected, Sasha was doing a wonderful job. She made our workload shrink significantly by organizing issues and documents before they were passed over to us, which

meant we also had a little more free time on our hands.

And for the first Sunday since this whole mess started, I would get to enjoy the day with my mate without worrying about anything else.

"What else would you like to do?"

I could feel Caitlyn's radiant smile as she laid beside me, drawing small circles on my chest with her soft fingertips. Our naked bodies were tangled in white sheets and the smell of s*x still lingered in the air. There was no better way to start a morning than by making love to the most gorgeous woman on this Earth. A groan escaped my lips as I lazily pulled her closer to me. I planted a soft kiss on her forehead before finally answering her question.

"Let's run away together," I whispered dramatically. "It'll be just the two of us against the world." I stuck out my arm toward the wall across from us as if gesturing to an endless horizon. "Tempting." She chuckled. It was still the sweetest sound I had ever heard. "But I'm afraid it's too soon for us to try and escape from all of our responsibilities."

"What if it's just for today?"

"That could work," she agreed, brushing her lips against mine. I couldn't control the urge to run my tongue along them; I was always hungry for her taste.

We shared one last kiss before finally rolling out of bed to plan our day. Instead of having breakfast in our room or at the dining hall as usual, we decided to have a picnic at one of the secret spots I had shown her during her first week here. As long as we stayed away from the main part of the territory, we would have enough privacy to enjoy each other's company without being disturbed. After getting dressed, we stopped by the kitchen to fill our picnic basket and strolled towards the tree with the tire swing. The sun was hiding behind light gray clouds, but the cloudy skies didn't stop us from appreciating the weather. It was slightly colder than usual, especially because of the morning breeze, but the temperature was still pleasant. We laid our classic red and white checkered picnic blanket over the green grass just a few feet away from the tall tree. Once the different treats we had brought were scattered over the rug, we could finally enjoy our peaceful meal. At first, I wasn't really comfortable with the luxuries we were offered; however, I had come to realize having unlimited access to free high quality food was quite nice.

"Catch!" Caitlyn yelled, throwing a blueberry in my direction. Even though I was caught off guard, I had no trouble opening my mouth just in time to capture the small fruit with my teeth. I devoured it in less than a second. "This game is too easy for werewolves," I observed.

She was thoughtful for a while before a smirk crossed her lips. "Let's make this interesting then. Shift."

"I'm not sure Atlas will want to-"

"Yes! Mate wants to play fetch! Let me ouuuuuuut!" my crazy wolf howled inside my head, trying to force his way to the surface.

Even after becoming an Alpha, the amount of control my mate had over me and my beast was astounding. She turned a killing machine into a puppy with unbelievable ease. I sighed in defeat and gave her a quick peck in the lips. "Whatever you want, beautiful."

I stood up to quickly remove my clothes, folding them lazily before tossing them on the blanket. As common as it was for werewolves to see each other's bodies, I would rather not walk around buck naked, especially out of respect for my mate. I stepped back in order not to destroy our picnic, taking a deep breath as I slowly gave my wolf control. The transformation was pretty much painless; in just a few seconds, my counterpart was standing on his four paws with his green eyes locked on our mate. "Are you ready, Atlas?" the brunette asked with an excited smile, and my wolf barked in response. "Alright, catch!"

The moment she tossed a handful of blueberries in the air, my caramel wolf leaped higher than ever, catching all of them in a single bite. He landed right in front of her, licking his now bluish lips. Caitlyn jumped to her feet soon after, approaching us slowly. Atlas lowered his head to offer her easy access to his muzzle. His tail wagged from side to side in a happy response to her gentle caress.

"It's so good to see you, big boy." She was looking straight into his eyes. He didn't think twice before repeatedly licking her face, making her laugh. Unaware of his own strength, he pushed his head so hard against her tiny body that she fell to the floor. Even then, he didn't stop covering her in our slobber. "You're happy to see me too, aren't you?" She giggled.

"He loves you as much as I do," I told her through the mindlink. "But he would like to spend some time with Faye too."

"I guess that's fair," she replied, standing back up after Atlas allowed her to. He backed away to give her space.

Once the brown she-wolf was freed, she rushed to her mate's encounter, headbutting his chest in a rough love gesture. She nibbled on his ear playfully, and it didn't take long for him to do the same to her. As they hopped and rolled over in the grass, their playtime soon became more intense. At some point, I felt Atlas push me to the back of our mind as he took advantage of the privacy offered by the pine trees to share an intimate moment with Faye. As weird as it was to be a spectator inside my own body, I could understand the need they felt for each other; Caitlyn and I were always mating in human form, so they didn't get to fully experience the fun.

The minutes seemed to go by faster as I watched the world through my wolf's eyes. When lunchtime came around, they decided to hunt for our next meal. It wasn't exactly easy to replace prey around our territory; they had to lay low and lurk in bushes for quite some time before a black-tailed deer crossed their path. Together, they worked to take the poor creature down. Once their bellies were full, they went to the secret cave near the border and cuddled until they fell asleep.

Four hours later, our wolves finally allowed us to take back control. It was around 2pm when we returned to our room to take a much needed shower after our little adventure. Since it was still early, we decided to rest and watch a movie. I truly valued the simplicity of our moments together; whether we were running around in wolf form or lying in bed, her company made everything brighter.

Just a few minutes after the movie ended, Cait's best friend linked her to invite us both for some kind of get together in the kitchen. Aside from being a waitress in Ninebark Pack, it turns out Megan also worked as a bartender at the important events. Satisfied with the amount of undisturbed time we managed to spend together, casual drinking with our friends sounded like a good way to end our Sunday.

By the time we made it to the kitchen, everyone else was already there. We joined them at the small round table by a large window, which offered us a nice view of the town square. There were still a few hours left before the staff came in to prepare dinner for the rest of the pack members. Until then, we had the place to ourselves - another one of the many benefits of being a ranked wolf.

"Alright, what's next?" Megan asked as she stood by the counter. There were many different bottles in front of her.

"Gimme another Vodka Martini," Jasper promptly answered. He then turned to Sasha, who was sitting by his side. "Should we make it two?" he whispered to her, wearing his classic sassy smirk.

"No, thank you." The new Delta forced a smile.

"You don't drink?" My mate's best friend asked casually as she started to prepare the drink.

"Not anymore," the ginger boy scoffed, earning himself a punch in the arm. Sasha clearly didn't hold back to hit him. "Ouch!"

"I'm not really a huge fan of alcohol," she finally replied. Jasper seemed to have something else to say, but he shut his mouth the second the black-haired woman scowled at him.

Caitlyn had told me about what truly happened to the former Gamma's daughter on the night of our ceremony, but judging by Megan's question, I assumed she and Luke were oblivious to the matter. It made sense, after all, the Beta couple had rarely been seen after they met each other. They were only now getting used to the whole mate situation, which meant they spent a little less time locked in their room, and more time with us. I couldn't help but wonder how my best friend would feel once he found out about Sasha's feelings. I was devastated when I learned the truth, but my Luna convinced me the issue had already been taken care of and it would be best for me not to confront our friend about it.

"What about you, babe? Anything?" The Beta Female turned to my mate as she handed Jasper his drink.

"Can I get a Cosmo?"

"Of course. You can have anything you want, all you have to do is say the word." The girl winked.

"Is that because I'm your best friend or because I'm your Luna?" Cait teased.

"It's because I like showering you with presents so you won't kill me next time I do something dumb." She shrugged playfully.

"Sounds fair." My mate laughed.

Once we were all served, Megan joined us at the table, sipping on her own glass of Blue Lagoon. For the first time in a while, we just chatted and made fun of each other like in the good old days. In the middle of the mess, I hadn't realized how much I missed this casual vibe. My mind was flooded by new rules, obligations, problems; I was really in need of a moment to just sit down and take it easy. It filled me with hope that, one day, everything would go back to normal.

"Why don't we have an outside bar?" the Beta Female suggested, her brown eyes locked on the window. "It would be a nice way to enjoy our afternoons. I bet the pack members wouldn't complain about it either."

"It would definitely be fun if we could get one built at the town square," Luke agreed, wrapping his arm around his mate's neck. "But we don't have the money for that right now."

"Well, maybe we don't need money." Caitlyn had a plotting smile on her face. I had learned to recognize it as a sign that she had just had an idea. My suspicions were confirmed as soon as she turned to me. "You used to be a lumberjack, and a woodcarver. Maybe you could try building us a bar? I'm sure the materials won't be too expensive, considering our pack has a lot of wood we can use."

"True." Megand nodded. "Back at Ninebark, we had to import wood frequently because we barely had any trees at the top of the mountain. Not to mention how long it would take for houses to be rebuilt whenever they were destroyed during attacks. Thankfully, the last few years have been pretty peaceful."

Her words made something click inside my head. Suddenly, echoes of my conversation with James soon after I became the Alpha came back to my mind. He said I would have to figure out our strengths, something we could offer other packs in return for their help. It was a long shot, but if it worked...

"What do you say, Lance?" My mate's sweet voice pulled me from my thoughts. My attention immediately fell on her. "I know being a builder is a lot different than carving tiny statues, but..." She stopped, probably noticing the subtle change in my semblance. "What?" I abruptly stood up from my seat to take a good look at my friends. "Guys, I think I just had a life-changing idea."
