My Mate Is An Omega
Chapter 41

Caitlyn POV

After my mate left for warrior training in the morning, I decided to wait for him at the office. I usually stayed in bed until he came back, but I had a hard time going back to sleep because of all the drinking - not that I regretted it in any way. The previous night with Lance had been a bliss. In the middle of the chaos, it truly felt like a sweet dream. It was exactly what I needed to start my first day as the official Luna of Diamond Tempest Pack. Strangely enough, the leadership position didn't frighten me as much anymore. Once I made it to the office at the end of the hall, I took in the beautiful view of our lands through the huge glass windows before sitting at the desk to read one of the last books I had been assigned. Most of the content was truly interesting, and I was ready to put what I had learned to test in my daily activities. I had a feeling we would be expected to make more decisions on our own now that we had been bonded to our titles.

The custom breakfast I had ordered earlier arrived only a few minutes before my mate walked through the door, just as I had calculated. He was dressed in one of his new button-up shirts, and though I missed his old style, the formal look suited him well. I had planned for us to have a calm meal together, but my inner peace was gone the second he casually asked me if I knew where Sasha was. Apparently, she didn't show up for training, which was truly concerning. The former Gamma's daughter was very serious about her duties, and she was always on time.

Noticing my concern, Lance decided to contact her so she could meet us at the office. He insisted she sounded like she was fine over the mindlink, but the information didn't help me relax. I was certain something serious must have happened for her to just disappear in the morning. She was more than capable of taking care of herself, which is why I wasn't apprehensive about leaving the Event Hall without notifying her. I assumed she would just go back home to sleep, but what if she had run into trouble at the party? "We shouldn't have left her alone," I thought out loud as I impatiently paced around the room. "I knew it was a bad idea to sneak out before the event was over."

"Is that so?" I heard my mate scoff, but I didn't turn around to look at him. "You seemed quite content last night." The next second, he approached me from behind, placing his hands over my stomach to pull me closer to him. He held me in place to prevent me from continuing to nervously walk back and forth. Sparks of electricity exploded on my skin when his warm lips brushed against my neck. "I must say, it was quite interesting to see you so... eager, to let me have you. Should I get you intoxicated more often, my Luna?" Months after moving in with the man of my dreams, the effect the mate bond had over my body still left me astonished. A single touch, or simply the sound of his voice, was enough to make the whole world disappear as my body heated up. I slowly moved my head to the side, allowing him free access to my neck. The sensation of his mouth grazing against my mark as he gently sucked on the spot made me see stars. Faye was ready to give in to him, but I knew I couldn't. Taking a deep breath, I reluctantly pulled away from him. "This is serious, Lance," I reminded him, looking straight into his eyes. He finally seemed to realize my affliction. "She could be going through a hard time or something. I'd like to think she would tell us if something was wrong, but to be honest, we haven't been around for her much lately..." For a second, I thought I was overreacting. She had just skipped training once; it could be nothing. However, as my mate went on, I had a feeling my suspicions were right.

"Well, I did notice a subtle change in her behavior," he confessed thoughtfully, sitting back on his chair. "At first, the possibility that she could have been affected by the recent events didn't even cross my mind, but it does seem to have taken a toll on her." A guilty sigh left his lips.

Thankfully, we wouldn't have to wait much longer to get our answers; there was a knock on the door, and I wasted no time to open it. To my surprise, even more questions popped up in my mind when I spotted the ginger boy standing by the black-haired woman's side. They both bowed curtly at me as I gestured for them to come in. For a while, there was only silence as Lance and I exchanged confused looks.

"I wasn't expecting you to come along, Gamma. Especially not after you missed today's training session." My mate arched an eyebrow at his friend, shaking his head soon after. "Anyway, I was wondering if-"

"It was my fault," Jasper blurted out, taking a step forward. What was going on here? "I got wasted after one of the she-wolves at the party turned me down. Sasha found my drunk a*s idling around the town square and brought me to my room before I could further embarrass myself. She stayed with me throughout the night to take care of me."

Lance stared at both of them for long seconds, analyzing the weird story he had just been told. I didn't miss the way the stray held his head up high the whole time, or how the girl's eyes widened in face of his sudden confession. In the end, my mate seemed to buy it, but I certainly didn't.

"I thought you would know your limits by now. You're not sixteen anymore, and you have a reputation to mind." He sounded like a true Alpha; I was both proud and surprised to notice how my insecure mate had grown so confident. Although, I still had a feeling these two weren't telling us the true story. "Once we're done here, go replace Luke to see what kind of punishment he has for you."

"Of course." The sassy smile was back on the Gamma's face.

"As for you, Sasha..." my mate went on, making the female warrior gasp. "It's not surprising to know that you have yet again acted fast to prevent chaos from spreading. I hope you can forgive our Gamma for all the trouble he has been causing lately. You truly care about this pack, and we're very lucky to have you." He grinned hopefully at her, but there was still a serious look on his face. "Which brings us to the main reason why I called you here in the first place. You are of vital importance for Diamond Tempest's prosperity. Once again, I would like to offer you the Delta title, and I won't take no for an answer."

"I accept the position," she stated firmly.

Jasper smiled proudly at her, but my mate had to blink a few times to process her answer. "You do?"

"Yes. I wanna help out as best as I can, so if you need a Delta, I'll gladly be one."

"Alright. That was easier than I expected, but I won't complain." He stood up from his seat, taking a few steps forward to hug her briefly. "Welcome to the team, Sasha."

"Thank you. When do I start?"

"Uh..." He was thoughtful for a moment, taking a look at the pile of reports over his desk. "Come by after lunch. I still have a few things to take care of before I can assign you your first tasks."

"Sounds great." She nodded, exchanging glances with the stray one last time before he excused himself to search for the Beta. Sasha was about to do the same, but I stood in her way.

"Since you're free for now, I was wondering if you'd like to join me in a walk across the territory? It's been a while since we last hung out as just friends," I suggested, trying my best to mask my underlying motivations. It wasn't hard, considering I was partially telling the truth. "Uh, sure." The woman clearly wasn't expecting my invitation, but she quickly accepted it.

She started a casual conversation with me as we made our way through the hallways towards the first floor. It truly seemed like she was fine, but I still didn't believe Jasper's excuse regarding why they both missed training. I also couldn't quite figure out why she promptly accepted the Delta role after refusing it more than a couple times. There was something going on, and I was adamant to figure it out.

"I know Jasper was lying," I stated confidently as soon as we stepped out of the pack house.

She stopped dead in her tracks, but soon caught up with me. "About what?"

"I hope you're not trying to make a fool of your Luna," I warned, taking advantage of my new title. "It was obvious he was covering for you. He wasn't the least ashamed about what he supposedly did, or afraid of the consequences now he has to face. You also literally sighed in relief when Lance bought his story. Not to mention how he winked at you as he was leaving the office."

"Nothing gets past your Luna instincts, huh?" She laughed nervously before suspiring. "Well, I guess there's no point in hiding it anymore."

The way she easily proceeded to tell me everything evinced just how guilty she felt about lying; she was desperate to let the truth come out, no matter how ugly it was. Honestly, I was expecting something much worse to have happened. At first, she left out the reason why she thought it would be a good idea to get wasted, but she reluctantly revealed it after I pressured her into talking. It wasn't the least relieving to replace out I was indeed right.

I couldn't believe she was silently battling her own demons while she supported everyone else, all while smiling through it. Not a single complaint left her mouth ever since the attack that changed all of our lives - including hers. Growing up as an Omega who never had many ambitions, it was hard for me to realize why titles meant so much to her, but the more she explained it to me, the easier it was to understand her feelings.

For her entire life, she had expectations to meet. Despite her brilliant brain and amazing fighting skills, she was constantly prevented from following her dreams. She kept her chin up and powered through; if there was nothing she could do to change it, she just had to accept it. Then, her world turned upside down. Suddenly she went from being at the top to watching all of her friends fill the highest ranks, while she was left out. The only important position she had was taken away from her the moment my best friend came to our pack. To add to her suffering, we were all too busy with our own lives to keep her company.

She was the one person who supported all of us through the hardest time of our lives, and in return, we left her alone.

"I'm so sorry for not noticing earlier," I sincerely apologized.

"It's okay," she reassured me as we kept strolling around the town hall. "I know there was a lot going on and-"

"No, there's no excuse for what we did." I sighed sadly, finally stopping to look into her eyes. "It's my first failure as a Luna, and as a friend. I feel terrible for disappointing my wonderful teacher. You definitely taught me better than that."

"I didn't need to teach you anything. As I said before, you've had the heart of a Luna ever since you came here. And you have done a lot for me too, Cait." She showed me an honest smile before wrapping me in a hug. "Thank you." "Thank you too. For everything," I replied.

"So, Luke was serious when he said you were trying to steal my best friend!" The familiar feminine voice took me by surprise - I still wasn't used to having her around. Sasha and I pulled away from each other to take a look at the girl with ombre white hair. "Finally! I thought I would have to kidnap your mate and use him as ransom to force you out of that damn room!" I scolded her, half-laughing.

"Don't worry, we all heard about the amazing Megan. I wouldn't dare trying to compete with you." Sasha laughed, joining the Beta Female's game.

"I don't belong to anyone. Stop being so possessive!" I teased her.

"That mark on your shoulder tells me otherwise." She furrowed her brows at me. "Anyway, what did you call me here for?"

A smile lit up my face as I stared at both women. "Since my partner in crime is living with me now, I was thinking the three of us could have some quality girl time together."

"Ew! Just that term sends shivers down my spine." Megan twisted her nose, faking disgust. "Do you expect me to gossip about other she-wolves? Babe, do you not know me at all?"

"Let me amend your idea. Why don't we let our wolves out and have a friendly girl tournament?" the former Gamma's daughter suggested.

"Oh, you're definitely my kind of person!" My best friend turned to her with an excited smile before raising her hand in the air. I had to laugh when they high-fived.

"See? I knew you two would get along well." I shook my head. "Why do I have a feeling I will be the odd one out now?"

"Aw, babe, it's cute you think you'd get rid of me so easily!" Megan pulled me into one of her rough bear hugs. "You know you're the one who keeps me sane. I still have no idea how I didn't end up in jail after you left."

"Honestly, me neither," I confessed jokingly.

As we headed towards the clearing, the two of them engaged in a conversation about the female warriors. The former Gamma's daughter was surprised when Megan asked her for a few tips, but the girl didn't hesitate to help her as best as she could. I didn't mind being in the background for once. I was happy that Sasha opened up to me, and I couldn't be more thrilled about having my best friend back. I smiled as I realized our duo had become a trio; there was nothing missing anymore.

"Cait, aren't you coming?" Megan glanced at me over her shoulder. In my bliss, I didn't even notice I had stopped walking.

"Yeah, sorry." I shook my head, quickly catching up to them. "I don't have to fight though, do I?"

"Of course you do!" She snorted. "Tell Faye to get her lazy a*s over here. Is she afraid to get her perfect fur dirty or what?"

"Oh, this b***h!" My she-wolf growled. "You know what? We're fighting, and I'm gonna teach her to shut her mouth. And make her pay us back for the tequila she stole!"

"You can't seriously still be mad over that!"

"A wolf never forgets." She squinted her eyes in anger, making me laugh.

This is exactly how I wished things would turn out. My life was finally complete.
