My Mate Is An Omega
My Mate Is A Virgin Chapter 27

Jasper POV

Through my wolf's gleaming white eyes, cold like those of a killer beast, I watched the enemy take slow steps. Our low growls of warning echoed through the snowy forest as we circled each other in a careful, deadly dance. There could only be one winner, but we each sought different prizes; he desired my title, and I wanted respect.

Phoenix bared his fangs, his menacing sounds becoming louder. He wished for nothing more than to end this quickly, his animalistic instincts urging him to taste blood. I, however, knew it wasn't as simple as he would like. One wrong move was all it would take for us to miss our chance. I certainly could not afford that.

I could hear a clock ticking inside my head, the tension rising with every second, but I tried to stay calm. There was no need to rush, after all. Lynxes were vicious, but they also relied on their superior intelligence rather than their physical strength. From my experience, I knew he would keep studying me, waiting for me to make a move so he could strike while my guard was down. I also knew he didn't know I knew that, and I had every intention of using that to my advantage.

Fake it, I thought to myself. Phoenix immediately understood my command. He lunged forward, catching the enemy's attention. As the lynx prepared to catch us mid-air, I could see his yellow eyes glisten with anticipation; at that moment, he obviously thought he had already won. But he was wrong. He was overconfident, and he failed to see he had fallen right into our trap.

It filled me with pride to watch the ambition vanish from his eyes, turning into horror instead, as soon as my wolf ducked. Once the creature was above us, Phoenix had clear access to his throat, and he didn't hesitate. With a single calculated strike, he slashed the lynx's throat with his sharp canines. The rogue drew one final, long breath before it fell to the ground, already unconscious. It wouldn't take more than a few minutes for him to die, either from lack of oxygen or blood loss.

This was the third rogue I had killed, but the first I managed to slay completely on my own.

"Amazing job, Prince Jasper! You have certainly shown him why you are to be king!" Alula, who had easily become one of my favorite huntresses, clapped as she appeared from behind one of the bushes. Phoenix barked triumphantly at her, making her laugh. The other women soon came out of their hiding spots, most of them wearing smiles. After we tracked down the rogue who had been roaming the outskirts of our territory for the past couple of days, they led him to me and stayed put in case I needed help. My mate, who had stayed in animal form to be able to intervene if necessary, took a step in my direction. The pride in her eyes made me overflow with joy. I took a deep breath to remain focused. As future king, I had been learning to control my emotions better. Three weeks had passed since my impulsive, yet well-thought-out request to start training to become stronger, like a king should be. As Dree promised, I had been having daily sparring sessions with Adriana, and my teacher finally deemed me ready to take down my first rogue without help. Despite how terrible I was at the beginning, I was trying my best to improve as quickly as possible.

Back at Diamond Tempest, I definitely wasn't among the best pack warriors, but honestly, I never put in the effort to be great. I didn't have Lance's motivation, for example, but seeing how far he had gone inspired me in a way. Being of Omega blood, and most likely not a bear hybrid, I knew it was impossible for me to become as strong as he was, but that didn't stop me from giving it my all.

I had also been joining the team in their weekly hunts; the queen herself commanded me to do so. She insisted I should put my hunting skills and strategies to use since they were very beneficial for the clan, but I had a feeling she had deeper reasons that she didn't want to reveal. Most of the huntresses, including the ones who seemed to be fond of me, were quite hesitant about the idea at first, but the more time we spent together, the more they trusted me. Being surrounded by women was a bit overwhelming at times, but I was slowly getting used to it.

"It was pretty impressive!" Calynn added. "For a wolf to beat a larger enemy on his own like that... I think you're becoming more and more like a cat!" She laughed.

"Indeed. I knew it was just a matter of time until your potential started to show..." I didn't even notice Mackenzie approaching me from behind after I shifted back into my human form. "Prince Jasper." She placed the robe over my shoulders, making me stiffen when her hands lingered there for more than they should.

I was about to push her away when Genevra's growl cut through the silence. Andromeda's half-sister reluctantly took a few steps back, clearly not ready to get her a*s handed to her again. The future Lynx Queen circled me gracefully before throwing herself against my body, rubbing her head on me to cover me in her scent.

"Oh, yes, my princess," Phoenix purred inside my head. "It's so f*****g sexy when you mark you territory like that!" A low growl of agreement escaped my throat.

"I wonder who taught you that." Adriana caught my attention. She winked playfully at me as she patted my shoulder. All I did was smirk in response. Following Andromeda's order, our training sessions had been kept a secret, even from the other huntresses. She was afraid it would spike more arguments, which we definitely didn't need.

"Maybe he's learning by observing us. It was one hell of a clean strike! Kinda like mine." Tessa celebrated before smiling at her mate, who looked as unamused as always. I seriously couldn't for the life of me understand how they ended up together. "What did you think, babe?"

Kindra was clearly resisting the urge to roll her eyes, but as they fell on me, she sighed. "It was alright, I guess."

"I'm just excited about not having to babysit him anymore." Laina's remark was slightly more positive than usual, which I would take. I mean, she did say she was excited. Usually she was just annoyed.

"Alright, now that the threat is eliminated, we should head back to the territory."

My body melted when I heard my princess' melodic, yet authoritative voice. Focused on the compliments that were surprisingly being directed at me, I didn't realize Andromeda had shifted until she took my hand to lead me back to the castle. As I turned to her, I was slightly disappointed to replace her beautiful curvy body already hidden by the robe.

"What?" she whispered, letting me know she could feel my emotions through our bond. In order not to draw attention, she didn't look at me as we continued to walk.

"Nothing." I shook my head, bringing her hand up to my face both to inhale her fragrance and to kiss her skin. "I was just fantasizing about you, my princess."

From the corner of my eye, I could see her lips turn up. "You just had me this morning, my prince. Are you insatiable?" "Are you complaining?"

She chuckled. "Never."

Once we reached the town square, we were greeted by clan members who were curiously waiting to replace out if their soon-to-be king had managed to keep his title. The moment they saw me, they started applauding me as they made way for us. I just smiled and waved at them, keeping my head high, like I had been instructed to do. Although I hadn't had time to properly bond with them yet, the fact that they were celebrating my victory made me feel more confident. The pressure that came with the expectations wasn't as bad as I had always anticipated it to be. Actually, it was almost rewarding.

As we stepped inside the castle, we parted ways with the huntresses to head to the Princess' Chambers. While our breakfast was being prepared, we took a shower to clean the blood from the morning kill off our bodies, then showered to get rid of the sweat, because I couldn't resist the urge to have her one more time to be fair, she wasn't really trying to stop me. After eating, we laid on the couch to enjoy our time together before Andromeda eventually had to leave to take care of her duties.

"You were amazing today." She smiled as she played with my fiery hair, leaving it more wild than it usually was. "I have no doubt the number of rogues will reduce as the rumors about your wins spread. You're improving at an impressive speed."

"Thank you, my princess." I leaned in to taste her lips before pulling away to look into her diamond eyes. "Maybe your mark is helping me become stronger."

"What do you mean?" She arched an eyebrow at me.

"Werewolves can share a little bit of their strength by marking each other. It's Selene's way of ensuring mates will always have similar power regardless of rank."

"So you're saying I might have given you some of my lynx abilities when I marked you?" I nodded, and she showed me a playful smile. "Are you gonna turn into a hybrid now?"

I laughed. "That would be pretty awesome."

She joined me before sighing. "I don't think so. Adriana has been reporting to me about your performance during training. She said you never stay down, even when she beats the s**t out of you." She brought her hand up to my face. I instinctively closed my eyes as her touch made me relax. "You're becoming stronger because you're working hard for it. It has nothing to do with me."

"You're probably right." A smirk played on my lips as I glanced at her again. "It's just so hard to believe I have always been this extraordinary. I should have shown my potential to the world sooner."

"Oh, now you're just getting cocky!" The princess pushed me away, giggling. "For real, though... I always thought you were pretty incredible." The sincerity in her eyes made my heart stop. I had been learning to take compliments, but I didn't know how to respond to this one. Thankfully, she let me know she didn't need an answer when she pressed her lips against mine, taking my breath away. "I need to go. There's a few things I have to take care of before our lunch with my mother." I felt a twinge of pain in my chest as she stood up to leave. "Don't forget to wear something nice."

"How about that black-and-red tuxedo you got for me?"

"Perfect." She winked as she headed to the door. Before walking out, she flashed me one last smile. "See you soon."

Resting my back against the couch, I pulled the curtains slightly open to look out the window at the vast territory that would soon be mine. Lunch was only in three hours, and considering it would take me about ten minutes to get dressed, I had a lot of time to kill. Most times when Andromeda was busy, I would hang out with Alula, Adriana, Calynn or Marina, but I felt like enjoying my privacy today. As my eyes accidentally fell on my phone on the bedside table, I realized there was a special someone I hadn't talked to in a while. I guess it was the perfect opportunity to check out on her.

"Hi there. How's my favorite Luna doing?" I asked as soon as Sasha picked up.

"Caitlyn would be so offended if she heard you," she replied playfully.

"It'll be our secret then." I could practically feel her shaking her head in disapproval. "No 'hey, handsome' today? Is Mr. Perfect Alpha around?"

"He's not that insecure, you know." She laughed.

"Of course not. He's Mr. Perfect after all." Teasing her would never get old. "Are you planning on answering my first question some day?"

"I'm good. Just busy as hell, but it'll be worth it in the end."

"Have you had any luck with the Elders? Does it look like they'll look into your plan?"

"Not yet." She sighed. "They have agreed to listen if most Alphas in the country are supportive of the idea. A meeting will be held in a couple of weeks. Preparing everything has been very time-consuming."

"Look at you, changing the world for the she-wolves of our country." I couldn't help but smile. She had grown so much, from being the young girl who was determined to become a warrior despite our pack's traditional sexist laws, to using her newly-acquired status as a Luna to try and make Canada a more equal land to males and females in werewolf society.

"I wouldn't have been able to get this far without the right person by my side," she confessed. "Speaking of which... How are you and your princess doing?"

"A lot better. Slayed my first rogue today," I announced proudly.

"Damn. You think you can finally beat me in a fight?" She joked. Well, kind of; I couldn't deny she used to kick my a*s during training.

"I believe we will have an opportunity to replace out soon," I recalled. "You will be heading to Diamond Tempest in a week, won't you?"

"How could I miss the celebration of my nephew's birth?" I could hear the excitement in her voice, and honestly, I shared the same feelings. Even though I wasn't part of my old pack anymore, I still considered them family. I couldn't wait to go back for the presentation ceremony Lance and Caitlyn would be hosting for their newborn son. "Will you already be king by then?"

"Yeah. The announcement party will happen in five days."

"Goddess, I should prepare myself! I don't know how to behave in the presence of royalty," she said playfully.

"I don't either, so you should be fine."

"Good to know." She remained silent for a moment, and I already knew what it meant. "I gotta go now, Jazz. It was nice talking to you. See you soon."

"See you soon."

I kept staring at the screen for a while longer after I hung up. After talking to Sasha, it was impossible not to think about how much had changed for us. How much I had changed. I never imagined I would be happily mated someday, let alone to a f*****g princess. If someone told me I were to be king, I would have laughed hysterically; Cordelia's vision about Lance turning against the man who raised him would have sounded a lot more realistic than this. Yet here we were.

Although I couldn't make sense out of this situation in the beginning, I was finally starting to feel like I was on the right path. And as a single thought crossed my mind, I smiled.

No one had ever believed this stray could go so far, but I was proving them all wrong.
