Chapter 1605 Bad End

"Some sort of power?" Elijah burst into laughter and then placed his large hand on Sally's forehead. "Darling, did I forget to explain this to you? I'm not a monk, and I don't have superpowers." Elijah's smile was particularly charming.

In the past, Sally wouldn't have been attracted by someone like Elijah.

She used to prefer Gideon's striking and handsome features.

But after all that happened, she felt that she had been naive.

There was a unique allure in Elijah's average looks.

She got to admire the stark contrast to his usual demeanor when he was lusting after her.

His occasional smile was attractive, drawing her in.

In short, even though she might not have romantic feelings toward Elijah, she was deeply drawn to him.

"We can talk about that superpower later. Elijah, give me a kiss."

Elijah hesitated for a moment, then almost instinctively complied. He kissed Sally on the lips and then asked, "Why did you suddenly want a kiss?"

He wasn't quite familiar with how things worked in that aspect.

Thus, he needed to ask more to understand when his wife wanted a kiss.

"Because you're super cute." Sally pinched Elijah's cheek. "Speaking of superpowers, since you don't have them, why did Gideon cough up blood? Is he trying to set us up?"

"He burst a blood vessel somewhere, perhaps." Elijah grabbed Sally's hand. "After all, you were already mine when he just realized how good you are."

"Don't be so smug!" Sally patted the back of his hand. "Take this as a warning. I've liked him for over a decade but decided to ditch him in the end since he is neither good nor obedient. I won't feel sorry for him even though he seemed so greatly affected by my departure. So, if you don't behave..."

Before Sally could finish, Elijah kissed her lips again, interrupting her warning, and said, "I will be good. I will always behave."

"Geez, this guy... What should I do about you?" she thought, amused.

"Go back to your meeting." She got a little cocky.

Elijah smiled and got up to continue his work.

Then, Sally replied to Athena's message: [I just got confirmation from my husband that it wasn't his fault!]

After replying, Sally sat there, staring at the phone screen.

To be honest, amidst breaking up and making up with Gideon throughout the years, Sally had fantasized countless times about leaving him without mercy, no longer loving him. Then, Gideon would wake up to the truth like the protagonist in the stories she read and realize how good she was. He would then come to her in tears, begging for her to return. Indeed, in her fantasies, he would be chasing after her.

While she had those daydreams, she had never once envisioned herself never forgiving Gideon.

When seeing how Byron broke down and went after his lover, she thought that Gideon might be reaching that point soon, too.

She didn't expect it to actually happen so soon.

The scenarios she had imagined were unfolding before her eyes. Yet, she found herself preoccupied with not causing trouble for Elijah. She had no inclination to forgive Gideon at all.

Her heart ached intensely. Not for Gideon, who coughed up blood.

But for herself, who had waited for Gideon for more than a decade, only to be disappointed in the long-awaited result she received.

Sally was tearing up.

Just then, her phone vibrated.

She picked it up and saw a message from Athena: [That's good. But I seem to have forgotten something. Sally, congratulations on replaceing your other half in life. I hope you two will grow old together and have a happy ever after.]
