Chapter 1697 Return

Unexpectedly, the hardened criminal grabbed him by the collar, slamming him against the wall with an intimidating look. "You pathetic fool. How dare you claim she's your sister! Think this is some sort of game? Fun, huh? Then go ahead and spend time in various prisons, have fun there!"

With that, the criminal threw him down like a piece of trash. He then turned to his henchmen. "Since it's his last night, have fun with him. Just don't kill him. Anything else goes."

In a mere sentence, he condemned Noah to a night that felt like hell on Earth.

Amid excruciating pain, he began to feel remorse.

Had he known Sally would have strong backers, he would never have hurt her.

But his repentance was of no use now.

All that awaited him was endless torment.

After hours of driving, Sally and Elijah finally reached their destination.

"Westbrook Abbey." Sally looked at the grand entrance plaque in the distance, then turned to Elijah.

He seemed lost in thought, staring at the entrance.

Sensing her gaze, he finally said, "Let's buy some fruits and flowers first."

"Okay." She nodded.

A decade had passed, but the surroundings of the monastery seemed unchanged.

Elijah quickly found a store that sold both fruits and candles.

The store owner, a woman in her sixties, greeted them warmly, "Here for fruits or candles?"

"Fruits," Elijah replied, naming a few seasonal fruits.

The old woman stared at him as he spoke, "Sir, you look so familiar. Have you visited my store before?"

Elijah looked back, "Mrs. Reed, it's me, Elijah, the former monk from Westbrook."

"My goodness!" She exclaimed, covering her mouth in shock.

She then rushed into the back. "Honey, come quickly! Elijah's back!"

Sally looked a bit lost.

Soon, an elderly man emerged, his face filled with astonishment as he saw Elijah.

"Little monk, where have you been all these years? You never came back! Your mentor has missed you so much!" He chided.

Elijah's eyes welled up with tears.

The old lady interjected, "Now, now, remember it was his mentor who told him not to come back. Whose fault is that?" She then kindly looked at Elijah, and her gaze shifted to Sally. "And who is this lovely lady?"

"This is Sally Campbell, my newlywed wife," Elijah introduced her, then softly said to Sally, "Sally, meet Mr. and Mrs. Reed. They've watched over me as I grew up."

"You got married?" Mrs. Reed exclaimed.

The old man, still looking grumpy, asked, "Wasn't the reason you left the monastery because of a girl? So, she didn't want you, then? Took you ten years to marry?" Sally timidly raised her hand. "Sir, I'm that girl from ten years ago..."

The couple looked extremely shocked.

The old man nearly choked on his own saliva. So, he had been devoted all these years!

The old lady asked in astonishment, "Is... Is it really you?"

"Mrs. Reed, it's her," Elijah replied sincerely.

"I knew it." She clapped her hands. "You always were a loyal one! That's wonderful!"
